The more I read posts by submissive girls about their fear of being needy and the stigma that’s attached to it, the more I realize I need to say this… 

I’m a needy Dom. 

I need her to text me repeatedly until I respond because she can’t wait to share something with me. 

I need to hear the excitement in her voice when she hears mine.

I need her undeniable devotion. 

I need her to recognize the things I do for her. 

I need her to need me.

I need her to pay attention to my likes/dislikes just as much as I pay attention to hers.

I need to feel her love.  Consistently.

I need HER. Every bit of her. Her deepest, darkest corners. Her sharp edges. Her weaknesses.

I wrote this post in response to a question from @convoluted-moonscape about being a dominant in a hypnotic D/s relationship.

Reader: I have no clue how to be a dominant in a hypnotic relationship.

I’m fairly new to kinky hypnosis and I’m still wrapping my head around what that label means and what responsibilities come with it. However, what I HAVE learned in my 8 months in the community is some of the different, fascinating ways to be Hypnotist Evil. Some of these are things I’ve done for years as a non-sexy recreational hypnotist*, some are brand new, and some were beyond my previous non-kinky imaginings.

1.Teasy Evil- This is the kind of evil I was most familiar with from rec hypnosis. This evil is usually pretty playful and involve fucking with your subject in mildly frustrating but mutually satisfying ways.

Examples include: Aggressive fractionation. Re-inductions that drop your subject mid-sentence. Unpredictable dropping. Trance teasing/denial: “You’re almost there- it’s going to feel so  good when you finally let go- feeling more and more relaxed- aaaaaand NOPE YOU”RE WIDE AWAKE!”. Hypno orgasm triggers/teasing like in this scene. Silly triggers like “everytime I say the word banana it’s the funniest thing you’ve ever heard.” Random suggestibility tests.

Subject reaction: “Foot stomping”, adorable whining, adorable pouts, silly cursing and calling you names like “dirty rotten hypnotist”**, giggling/laughing

How to: As I said above, the tone here is primarily playful. You and your subject should be having fun- you don’t want to accidentally stray into humiliation.  In my experience with negotiating these scenes, you aren’t usually negotiating trigger by trigger but more the tone and examples. Still- if someone’s new to you, it’s safest to give anything potentially embarrassing a wide berth or discuss in advance to make sure it’s OK. Also- for best results, be unpredictable and be creative. You can also use your subject’s reactions against them- ex. “You poked out your tongue at me? Now it’s stuck”

2. Tropey/Supervillain/mcstories evil- In this kind of evil, you are taking inspiration from every evil mind controller you saw in cartoons and TV shows when you were a kid. (Ex: The Master, pictured above) If you are like me, you learned hypnosis as a cooperative venture sometimes involving lots of passive/permissive and subject-empowering language.*** Fuck that noise. In this kind of evil, you are imitating the kind of hypnotist who would scare vanilla friends away and make your hypnotherapy teacher cry.

Examples include: Using tropes like spirals, eye fixation, pocketwatches, etc. Imitating the Master/comic book villains/various evil enchantresses/that clown from that Scooby Doo episode. Suggesting the person can’t come out of trance on their own. Copious usage of words like “blank”, “mindless”, “helpless”, “obedient”, “brainwashed”. The whole subcategory of hypno-dirty talk.

SPEAKING OF HYPNO DIRTY TALK, I interrupt this post to share with you good people two recent excellent examples:

Subject reaction: For a person with a certain kind of kink (and most of the people on tumblr I would imagine), this is hot like fire. It can also lead to the good kind of anxious/nervous/scared. This uses super dominant language so it can encourage subby reactions if that’s something your subject likes.

How to: Remember that you can be campy and over the top with this- although you may want to start more down-to-earth and escalate, especially if this is your first time with a subject or first time adopting this tone. Mantras are good and common here- if you use them, feel free to ask your subject what words are hottest for them in advance. Use direct, dominant language. Some people (including hypnokinksters) DO NOT like this style for multiple reasons (don’t respond, think it sounds silly, think it sounds too much like roleplay/too different from regular hypnosis) so definitely negotiate it in advance. If this is a new/different style for your subject, they may not respond to suggestions as easily if they blur the line between this and roleplay. Alternatively, even if you feel like you’re roleplaying, your subject may not- go ahead and clear out long lasting suggestions (like @hypno-sandwich‘s above) at the end of a session. If you use language about being helpless to resist trance, subjects not being able to wake up on their own, etc. negotiate and remind subjects before (and possibly during) that they can actually ALWAYS resist suggestions/safeword/come out of trance if needed. (Phrasing I’ve heard in general and like “as long as it’s good, safe and right for you”. Checking in frequently is probably smart, especially at the beginning

3. Mad Scientist Evil: Experiment! Is there a thing that you’ve always wanted to do with hypnosis but felt weird asking your friends? Do that! “Hey, can I give you a false memory?” “Hey, what would happen if we did a dual induction and turned someone into a dinosaur and a bimbo at the same time?” “Hey, what if I tried to hypnotize someone using only a glass of water? Or only my facial expression?“ (For science!)

Examples include: That thing you read in a dusty book when you were 12. That thing where you’ve always wondered if it would actually work. Things you’ve seen Derren Brown do. I’d say @theleeallure and @hypno-sandwich‘s Hypnotic Amnesia is an example of mutually enjoyable Mad Scientist Evil

Subject reaction: Ideally they should also be really curious and interested in your experiment- part of the fun of this community is there are many people who love being on all sides of interesting experiments.

How to: As always, negotiate. There may be times where you’re doing a single-blind experiment (the subject doesn’t know the purpose)- approach this with lots of caution and negotiate around (like in #1). Since these things are experiments, they may fail- its best if you’re working with someone you have a lot of trust with (and preferably a history/rapport with) so you know the relationship can withstand the failure. If something doesn’t work, don’t freak out- troubleshoot with your subject or move back to something that does. Remember that your subject is, in fact, a person and not just a lab rat- treat them with respect and don’t jeopardize their safety for your curiosity.

4. Subject Modification Evil- If you’re working with someone long term, you can make permanent changes to their behavior/worldview/etc.This can overlap with mad scientist evil- I tend to think of subject modification evil as intended to be long-lasting while mad scientist evil is shorter term.

Examples: “You aren’t affected by spirals? Now you’re incredibly affected by spirals” “I think eyerolls are cute- so I’m going to train you to roll your eyes whenever you go into trance” “You don’t have this kink/erogenous zone/positive response to a word I like? Now you do”

Subject reaction: Depending on your subject (and presuming enthusiastic consent), this can make them feel really controlled in a way that some people find very sexy. Lots of similar feelings to #2 actually.

How to: You should always negotiate this and be very, very cautious. DO NOT BREAK YOUR SUBJECTS. If you don’t know how to do this kind of thing, ask for advice from the community- there are people out there who do. You don’t want to jump into the deep end of modification- the advice I’ve heard is maintain something for the session first, check reaction, try for a bit longer (a few hours), check reaction, try for a day or two, check reaction, etc. Start small and build. This is best done in a relationship where there’s a lot of knowledge and trust. There’s strong potential for abuse here-intentional or by way of thoughtlessness/negligence.

5. Roleplaying Evil- Do you or your partner have an exciting/sexy scenario that you can’t do in real life (possibly because it’s dangerous/immoral/unethical)? Roleplay it!

Example: “What if I kidnapped you and made you my brainwashed slave?” “What if I tied you up and dismembered you?” “What if I lobotomized you?”

Subject reaction: From what I’ve seen, it is often the subject’s fantasy you’re playing so- hot! #2 and #4 with maybe more fun fear- like being in a haunted house (possibly?)

How to: This is another one I have limited experience with. From my MEEHU class- Clearly establish the beginning and end of the roleplay- I’ve started moving the roleplay to a special “fantasy room” in a subject’s mind to give it a specific and limited space.  Establish if this roleplay will be more of an eyes closed guided fantasy or an eyes open acted out roleplay. Even if the roleplay looks like not!hypnosis, know your subject is still suggestible and be careful with what you say. Take off all suggestions at the end of play- one by one and then altogether. Have I said negotiate enough? Negotiate. Some subjects want more details, some want less- ask.

6. Regular Ol’ S+M Evil- Do the things you regularly do with kinky sex only also with hypnosis- bondage, spanking, objectification, pet play, etc.

Example: Freezing, hypno-spanking, etc.

Subject reaction: S+M-ey? #2, #4, and #5ish

How to: Those things you do? Make them suggestions. Err- outside of a bit of hypno-freezing and hypno-bondage, this is outside my knowledge area. Thoughts from others?

7. Actual Evil- This is when you get away from fun mwahahaha-evil and actually cause harm to another person, intentionally or unintentionally.

Example: Triggers that make a person sick if they try and leave you, financial domination, psychological/emotional/physical/sexual abuse

Subject reactions: Confused? Unhappy? Deteriorating mental health?

How  (not) to: Communicate, be cautious, respect your subject, etc.  How Not to Accidentally Be an Abusive Arsehole of a Hypnotist

As I stated at the beginning, I am still a newbie and do not have a complete understanding of the various evils, much less the how-tos and safety.
