really cherished this one.
This is a summary of college only using two pictures; expensive as hell.
Thatâs my Sociology âbookâ. In fact what it is is a piece of paper with codes written on it to allow me to access an electronic version of a book. I was told by my professor that I could not buy any other paperback version, or use another code, so I was left with no option other than buying a piece of paper for over $200. Best part about all this is my professor wrote the books; thereâs something hilariously sadistic about that. So I pretty much doled out $200 for a current edition of an online textbook that is no different than an older, paperback edition of the same book for $5; yeah, I checked. My mistake for listening to my professor.
This is why we download.Â

not necessarily art related but as someone who couldnât afford their textbooks this semester this is a godsend
REBLOGGING because after a little digging, I found my $200 textbook for free in PDF form.
friendly reminder that this exists since I know weâre all going back to college soon

Dark Physics Aesthetics
-Staying up all night working through a problem, surrounded by pages and pages of failed attempts but unable to sleep until youâve figured it out
-The delicious hunger of constantly feeling like everything youâre studying is at the very edge of your comprehension, slippery photons slowly taking shape in your imagination as the mathematics coalesces into a tangible concept
-Reading a section of the textbook saying, âthis is all we know about this topic so farâ, and the flash of fire, the need to know, the need to discover burning under your skin
-Forcing your way through derivations in a desperate attempt to understand the elegance in the equation that is printed on the page
-Forgetting the world while working on a particularly fascinating problem only to resurface hours later, suddenly aware of your empty stomach and dry eyes, wondering vaguely when the sun went down
-Half empty lecture halls populated by the same group of students who never miss class, whose eyes all have the same parched look, drinking in every mark the professor writes, starving ears devouring every word that echoes in the silent room
-The grim determination of coming back to the same problem every day for a week, letting it consume every passing thought until it even invades your dreams and not even sleep is restful
wholesome student life things that we should collectively start romancizing
waking up and being genuinely thrilled to go to class because today is THAT CLASS you love so much youâd like it to never end
coffee breaks with friends, chatting and joking about this particularly hard essay and the profâs mannerism
coffee breaks on your own, as you absent-mindedly watch the people around you, while thinking about what youâre working on
finding this book youâve been dying to read for so long, and borrowing it from the library
the feeling of excitement that goes through you whenever you remember The Book is in your backpack
understanding everything during demanding classes and being genuinely interested in the subject
buying a New Special Pen and taking colorful notes that look super pretty
not being able to shut up about your school projects (no your friends dont really care about the intricate details of what youâre working on, they donât even have the same major as you, but theyâre happy to hear you rant with such a burning passion)
actually doing the extra reading and having your curiosity so piqued by what youâre reading that you go on and on and suddenly its 1am and what happened
printing the project youâve spent so much time and energy on and feeling the paperâs warmth
actually submitting that project without feeling awful about it because you know you did your best and arenât responsible for what happens next
when you finally finish this Super Hard And Important Essay at like 3am, open the window and feel the cold night air on your burning cheeks and everything is dark and quiet and you can see the moon and youâre at peace with everything for a few minutes
when this professor you admire says you did a great job and/or that youâre talented!!!!
realizing two concepts that seemed so far away from each other and that you discovered in wildly different contexts are actually interlinked, then Realizing⢠things and linking concepts/works/articles to each other at the speed of light & being super excited about it
being so deeply immersed in your work that you didnât realize two hours have passed
finding the Perfect Spot at the library
that Pure Joy moment when you FINALLY understand that super obscure sentence/text
when you feel anxious because youâre not done with your homework & the deadline is super tight & your friend tells you they arenât done yet either
same but with an even more intense relief feeling when you realize you both havenât even started yet
when the professor starts a new reasoning and you can predict what the next idea/the final conclusion will be
when the professor mention your favorite novel/author/fictional character in class and you feel like your internal screech of joy could shatter glass
the Academic Salt⢠that has you like đđ
when the professor tears apart an author or scholar you hate and youâre like YES I WANT BLOOD GIVE ME BLOOD
when you learn that Cool New Fact that makes you reconsider your whole life
leaving the library after a long productive day and feeling like nothing is real but experiencing everything more intensely
leaving the library at night after a long study session and everybody has left already and its just you and the long neon-lit corridors then stepping outside and smelling the crisp night wind
feel free to add your own!!!
when you learned a thing that interessted you and two days later someone completly unrelated to your work will say âhey i wonder how this works?â and youâre so excited to explain it because you KNOW THAT
when youâre anxious af for a class and the professor is actually super friendly and you feel confident enough to ask questions
and suddently thank to this one professor EVERYTHING MAKES SENSE
understanding that One Difficult Point and suddently you feel like you UNDERSTAND THE FABRIC OF THE UNIVERSE
sometimes you can feel like you have too much in your bag but then one friend has a problem and they are pleasently surprised when you have Just The Right Thing
Running half the campus because youâre so excited to see your friend and to eat with them !!!!!!!!
This is the light academia aesthetic I strive to embody
That one topic you studied a little too much actually being a majority of your exam
Walking out of exams with your head up because you know you put the work in
Understanding a topic you struggled with and then teaching it successfully to someone else
Watching as people youâre tutoring/teaching actually understand what youâre saying (Teaching Assistant mode)
Taking that break you donât think you deserve because youâre so stressed and behind but then it actually helps
Taking that break and it doesnât help but in the moment it was amazing
Waking up early for a morning class and campus just seems dead and quiet as you walk through
(btw this is applies more to colds, flus, etc. rather than more serious illnesses)
1. prioritize rest + food! if you keep staying up until 2 am every night barely eating anything, youâll never get better. make sure you are eating well and getting rest!
2. do your best to still attend class (unless youâre very contagious or very sick). if you just have a cold that makes it hard to want to get out of bed youâll probably want to skip all of your classes. only do this if you really have to, but if you realistically think youâll be able to get through class, you should definitely go so you donât get behind. (if you think itâs more worth it to stay home, do that instead)
3. if you do miss class, email your professor and text your friends. this way, your professor knows you arenât simply skipping and your friends can text you the notes!
4. do your work in increments. when youâre sick, itâs v hard to do a bunch of work in one sitting because you get tired way more easily. try doing your work in bits and take lots of rest breaks so you donât tire yourself out!
5. watch youtube videos rather than reading. like i said in #4, itâs so easy to get tired while youâre sick. while studying, try watching youtube videos that summarize the topic and limit your reading, because it is much easier to watch videos for an hour than to read for an hour!
6. study during times youâll already be up. study during lunch, while youâre waiting for class to begin, etc. this way, youâll still be studying the content without having to force yourself out of bed to do it!
7. if you know you wonât retain the information, just donât study. if youâre forcing yourself to study in order to stay productive but you keep getting distracted and canât remember what you just read, youâre much better off getting the rest you need.
8. prioritize!! donât spend an hour making aesthetically pleasing notes if it barely helped you, do the most important task first in case you lose your stamina!
japanese word of the day đŻđľ

meaning: happiness
For some reason, it never occurred to me that Project Gutenberg would have public domain old cookbooks. This is BRILLIANT. Thereâs a 1953 cranberry recipe pamphlet and a suffrage cookbook from 1915 and a translation of Apicusâs guide to food in Imperial Rome and a whole bunch of other fascinating old cookbooks, many pre-1800. Treasure trove!
I love you for sharing this!!!
For more old cookbooks, Michigan State University has 76 of their historical cookbooks scanned and searchable at Feeding America: The Historic American Cookbook Project.
For even older recipes, check out Gode Cookery. They list medieval and Renaissance cooking instructions and translate the recipes for you into measurable amounts and all.
I have have have to mention Miss Leslie. I learned so much about cooking from that book, even if a lot of it is outdated.
Also, Forme of Cury is great fun, if you can muddle through the Middle English (Gode Cookery has translations and adaptions of some of the recipes from this).
Can confirm that Gode Cookery is brilliant.

A Really Fucking Vulgar Guide to Not Losing Your Shit in College (Condensed Version)
Bitches love to put things into lists. Moreover, bitches love numbered shit. Hereâs some numbered shit in list format to help you not suck in higher education. Youâre welcome.
1. Go to class. Like 210% serious. I donât give a shit if youâre a get by on nothing, A+ slacker. Youâre fucking paying for this crap so you might as well get the services owed to you. Take your ass to class even if you zone out 99% of the time. You know 1% more than you did when you walked up in there. Congrats, asshole.
2. All that free time you have during your first week of classes? Make it your bitch. Donât just print the goddamn syllabus and be like all done. No motherfucker. Take a good fucking look at that assignment list. Whatâs due next week? Yeah, do that shit now bc I know you donât have anything else to do. Then when youâre coughing up a lung six weeks into the semester and donât feel like getting your ass up to do that calculus homework, youâll remember this week. Youâll remember that youâve been a week ahead this whole damn semester. Pat yourself on the back, ass wipe.
3. Prepare yo self. No seriously. You got notes to print for class? Sure you could be like all those other bitches and just shove them into your backpack, or you could actually /prepare/ for class. Iâm talking looking that shit over, identifying key concepts, getting a decent grasp of the material before your ass is even in class. You a STEM major? Yeah, make this kinda shit your life because now class is like one bomb ass group review session. Again, youâre welcome.
4. Snack like a motherfucker, but save that junk food shit for the weekends. From now on, you are a fucking health guru during the week or if youâre a slacker like me, at least on the days you have class. Fruits? Hell yeah. Pack some of those. Mind wandering in class? Snack on some apple slices. Canât stay awake? Keep eating some almonds or some shit, but donât be that bitch with the potato chips. Just donât.
5. Read. Yeah, you heard me. Read and Iâm not just talking assigned reading. I bet my left butt cheek that your campus library has /something/ of interest to you. Commuting and donât want to drive out there? Library databases bro. Weâre in the digital age, motherfucker. Iâd bet my other butt cheek that the shit you want is in a nice little PDF somewhere. But na man, you thinking maybe you want to go into computer science? Check out computer science books and eat them up bro. You donât like reading them? Probably not the field for you. You a biology major in your second year? Yeah dumbass. Time to break out the bio books and not the ones your professor is shoving in your face. Amaze your friends and teachers with your out of class knowledge. Be a fucking star.
So if you lived in a society where you had to secure your communication in order to be yourself around others, here are the apps that could help you do that.
Signal letâs you securely text and make phone calls.
Onion Browser allows you to surf the web without leaving a trail.
Duck Duck Go isnât super secure but it wonât record your searches like Google.
ProtonMail is a email client that lets you email other secure email accounts.
Periscope allows you to stream live video.
Semaphor is there so you can securely make group chat rooms.
American privacy laws allow you to use these all. So thatâs pretty cool.
Because weâre currently living in the prologue of a cyberpunk dystopian novel, imma reblog this.
