Dan and Blair + Southern Gothic

Mysterious disappearances of young men in the middle of the night attract amateur writer, Dan Humphrey, to southern New Orleans. What began as a one-weekend trip to gather data for his novel turns into a series of apparently unconnected events that lead him to the suspicion that, whatever or whomever is coming for the young men; he is next.

katerinas asked: what they do and how they act before Dan “marries” Serena. 

“You’re finally in. Congratulations.”

Her tone is not playful and she reeks of alcohol. Scotch, he can smell five feet away.

 The hand on her shoulder is ignored and quickly swatted away, and he sighs “Blair-“

“You hate me, I get it. I don’t blame you. But this… this?”

The laugh that comes out of her mouth is too dry. When she leans her head on the counter, supported by her arms, she realizes how vulnerable and hurt she feels. And that is not how Blair Waldorf operates.

But apparently she didn’t get the memo on how to deal when the UES explodes over the announcement of one Lonely Boy getting engaged to The Serena Van Der Woodsen.

So she drinks. And she remembers and she cries.

Until he shows up.

Her face is hard and there is dried up tears and it might be the first time Dan has seen Blair not care about ruined mascara. 

"I refuse to be one of your regrets." 

Two years. 

Two years since Bass has been inserted into her name. Of course she was never letting go of Waldorf, it might be the only thing she held true to herself. 

That was his common bitter thought, the little devil on top of his shoulder laughing maniacally. 

Everything else was not her. It never was, but she liked to believe the lie, she had to, because it was so easy. The fairy tails of her childhood mocked her, even when she didn’t believe them anymore. 

Yes, the pain was easier. The book never ends with her in a white castle. 

But here she stands in front of him, not close enough to reach. He’s unshaven and tears threaten to fall from his eyes, but she almost smiles because he still has the same smell and his hair is again too long. 

He wants to hate her, he wants to yell. He wants to throw that stupid headband in the thrash. 

It’s like he’s seeing her 17 year-old self and by all gods, he thinks he might love her more. 

"You never were." Her voice breaks. 

"Then why?" He doesn’t have to elaborate much more than that. 

She realizes she never uttered such truthful words “Because I’m afraid of being happy.” 

It’s a second between a tear fall and his arms holding her. She’s sobbing quietly in his shoulder. 

If this theory holds, well, by the law of averages, there had to be one universe — just this one — where we don’t end up together. Here and now just happens to be it. If you think of it this way, nothing is our fault.
