re: your last post, when it comes to the diff drivers I feel perfectly comfortable writing black/non white readers for Lewis and maybe even Yuki, but the minute I start writing for the white drivers I get nervous bc I feel like their fan bases are more immediately hostile towards us based on what I've seen ๐ฌ like I'll still write what I want but it's like walking into a party at a PWI lmao

Hi. ๐ถ Just wanted to say that I love your work on drivers with black!reader(s). I've thought about writing for a few of my favorites but I can't bring myself to do so. I feel like I'm not allowed to.
I'm mixed with half black. I've had ideas of writing OCs that are like me. But that little voice in the back of my head tells me not to because no one would read it. So I don't.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

all of the writers in the f1 x bipoc (black/indigenous/people of color) community are incredibly welcoming and we love having new writers join us in adding more diversity to f1 rpf.
i'm not gonna lie to you, we definitely get less attention/interaction with writing non-white ocs and readers (especially if you're writing oc's instead of reader-inserts, and also traditional fanfics instead of social media au's) โ but i think that's because people who aren't the race of whatever character you're writing feel like they're not allowed to read it? or they find it hard to imagine themselves in that character's place? and that makes me giggle, because we grew up reading ACTUAL BOOKS and fanfiction where the default reader was white and was described as such. and even though we couldn't relate, we still read it because the story was good and it was all we fucking had lol. (seriously, you don't have to be a member of the poc community to read poc fics! i actually think it's kind of weird if you actively avoid them but that's an entirely different discussion !!!)
unfortunately, there will be people who harass you for doing it. i started writing f1 fics almost two years ago, and i think almost every one of my moots who write poc fics have received hateful messages and even threats !!! for making fanfiction diverse. i'm not saying this to scare you away, i'm saying this so you're aware. racism and prejudice still exists on this app and irl, for a reason unbeknownst to me. BUT FUCK EM!!!! if they can't handle somebody in a FANFIC having a skin color that isn't white, or eyes that aren't blue, or a hair texture that isn't straight and tied up in a messy fucking bun, or a CULTURE THAT ISN'T THEIRSโthat doesn't sound like our fucking problem :)
people WILL read what you write. the number might be small, but people will read it. there are plenty of poc readers on this app who want more content. plenty of them are like you, who want to do more than read and start writing as well. and lemme tell you sumn...22 notes/likes may seem like nothing right? but, imagine that's 22 people who came up to you in real life, and told you that they liked what you wrote. and 1 reblog ??? that's like somebody walking up to another person and telling them, "you should read this, i loved it!"
and sure, having validation from readers is what keeps us posting...but don't forget that fanfiction is inherently self-indulgent. you wrote that story for yourself, and then you shared it and allowed us the privilege of reading it.
i can't speak for all of us, but i know that i'm thrilled every time i see a new writer come across my dashboard. so write your ideas. don't let the fear of being unnoticed stop you from doing something you want to do. and trust me, there are readers begging for a story with a mixed!oc, like you want to write. make yourselfโand themโhappy.

ten !!! pages !!! in !!! and carlos and lando have only been mentioned, they have yet to appear LMAO (that was a laugh of disbelief). it's going to be a monster of a chapter i think, bc i've outlined everything that i want to happen and i'm not even through the first half of the first act. YESโyou've read that correctly, i've had to break this shit up into acts like a shakespearean play. what the hell.
how many acts are there you ask? optimistically there's 4, if you go by the timeline of the fic which is the months of summer: may to august. however, if you follow the outline, there's 11 acts...stop throwing tomatoes at me, i'm already ashamed of myself pls.

his hands in your hair โก๏ธ landoโs earned every opportunity to touch your hair. it started with you asking him if your middle part was straight. he told you it was off-center, and you handed him the comb and told him to make it perfectโwhich he did. you recruited him to help with your wash days, and simultaneously helped him develop his hair care routine. you get huffy when he does your edges better than you, you taught him how to add beads to your styles, and how to braid (it counts, even if you only let him do the ones on the back of your head). lando doesnโt think that youโll ever let him hold a hot comb or flat iron, but heโs satisfied with being trusted to finish blow-drying your hair when your arms get tired. you fall asleep as heโs oiling your scalp or treating you to a head massage, and he thinks about the future. after his retirement, when the two of you have a gaggle of curly-headed children running around the house, and the stress of making multiple tiny, tender heads of unruly hair presentable, isnโt all on you. because of the trust you put in him now, he's going to be able to do your childrenโs hair too.
his hand in yours โก๏ธ lando loves holding hands with you, interlocked fingers, his thumb rubbing over yours, arms swinging between your bodies as you walk from one place to another; a sign to everyone watching that heโs yours, and youโre his. his hands are larger than yours, obviously, but he didnโt realize just how big his truly were until he watched you wrap your entire hand around his pinky finger. the sight had him wanting to ask to compare hand sizes like he was in grade school all over again. heโs heard you call his hands massive or refer to them as bear paws, but lando says theyโre perfectly sized, because heโs able to hold all of you in them.ย
