The most unbearable thing about Suna Rintarou is that he is as lazy as he is academically brilliant.

It's always been infuriating: it was back in high school where he'd somehow convince you to spend the entire weekend watching movies and eating snacks at his house instead of studying for your upcoming quiz telling you you'd at least be on the same boat; only to realize, the day you get your quizzes back, he's somehow managed to come close to a 70 out of 100 points.

You don't go over 38.

Still it doesn't matter if you lock yourself up in your house for weeks to study because he manages to do better than you almost every single time even though he's busy with training most of the time.

It's also the way he looks like he never pays an ounce of attention in class: you take notes and highlight every single piece of information you need to memorize, knowing it'll be a slow and painful process because that's how your mind works. All this while he lazily draws squiggles on you book pages, laying his head on the empty desk.

Everything you try to do at your best is not nearly enough.

Life gets more tough in college. You don't have the time to compete with every single course mate about grades, which is a relief, but you soon find out that the new thing to compare yourself to other young adults to is life: specifically, how far ahead you are in your plans.

Do you live alone? Do you have a job? Are you close to getting out of college? Are you in a healthy stable relationship? Do you have a satisfying social life?

Suna is, indeed, ahead of you: with a promising career as an athlete, a contract guaranteeing him a place to live in and a stable income, he manages to surpass you yet again.

You also learn that it doesn't matter if Suna isn't in school with you anymore, because there are many other people who outsmart you by far (and coil probably win stains Rintarou too).

You are but a water drop in the ocean.

You know how destructive it is to think this way, but you can't help it: you are just observing how everything in life is slowing down whilst others' zoom past you like cars in traffic. You are stuck in your own mindset that you hide because you know it to be pure foul jealousy: you have no business judging others.

And sometimes it's easier to forget about it (or at least put it at the very back of your mind). Others it feels impossible to swallow. It's during on of those evenings that you meet Suna while out with other shared friends.

He seems to be doing good, which only manages to make you feel the heaviness of your heart crushing your spirits.

Rintarou, still perceptive as ever (although he doesn't show it) sees right trough you and gets you to open up, just a little bit. You tell him all about how you sometimes feel like you've let the whole world down and everyone is better than you. How you've had to deal with the fact that, unlike they told you in high school, you are nothing special, but a mediocre person living their mediocre life.

"Although at least you helped me open my eyes first! I mean you were better than me in everything: that should have been the first clue."

"I honestly don't understand where all of this is coming from. If you are different than everyone else, doesn't this mean you walk your own path?"

"Nobody cares about my differences! What I have to do is stand equally next to each other regardless of my difficulties. That's what I'm missing"

"Had I known you were hurting like this in high school I would have preferred being held back a year."

You snort. "I doubt it. You were so smart! I admired you and loathed you at the some time for so long!"

"I wasn't "knowledgeable" smart, I was academically smart and there is a big difference. I knew how to work out quizzes and tests and found a way to listen to the lessons without ever participating too much. But I chose not to continue studying and here I am."

"I still think yore being too honest."

Suna smirks. "What if I told you I was really trying to impress you?"

"I wouldn't believe you. Listen Rin, I know I'm slower than you but I'm not that gullible."

"Well you should. When I'd told Kita about my crush on you, he's advised me to impress you with my brain instead of my muscles and that's when the manuals came in."

"Well... well now I'm confused. Does that mean you liked me?"

"Yeah. I really wanted you to impress you."

"Well... um"

"Did I?"

"What?"

"Did I impress you?"

"I mean, yeah. Maybe I would even have complemented you if I hadn't been so consumed by the loss."

"It's fine, you can compliment me now. How about a date?"

"Are you being serious?"

AKAASHI: offers to buy you a book you love and will insist if you say no

TSUKISHIMA: will dedicate a music playlist for you & will lowkey feel upset if you don’t listen to them even if he’ll say he won’t care

BOKUTO: will carry you on his back when he notices your feet are starting to hurt from walking and standing all day

KAGEYAMA: keeps himself awake as he forces his eyelids to open just to listen to your rambles in the middle of the night

IWAIZUMI: will always insist on walking you home from a date/from school just because he’s not comfortable with you going home alone

OSAMU: will study the recipe of your favorite dishes so he can personally be the one to fill your stomach with a healthy and delicious meal

USHIJIMA: has those books about dating and ‘how to be a good boyfriend’ with annotations and sticky notes adjourned onto the pages

DAICHI: will watch with you your favorite movies even if he doesn’t like them

SUNA: will always hold you through a crowd because he wouldn’t want you to get lost from his sight

TANAKA: will volunteer to wait through a long line for you as he insists you sit on the closest bench/chair to wait for him

KUROO: teases you for alot of times but then will immediately beg for forgiveness when he notices you ignoring him

OIKAWA: who will call you with the most flustering to the cringiest nicknames like sweetheart, darling, angel, sweet pea but will be respectful & quickly step down when you feel uncomfortable with it

KENMA: will let you play his console and will think you’re cute (with a blush on his face) whenever you get angry and upset over a game

HINATA: will make you smile and cry from laughter whenever you feel down

SEMI: will compose a whole album with different songs that speaks his love for you

KITA: asks and hears out your opinion first before he decides to do something, and will still respect (as he should) it even if it contradicts to his own opinion

ARAN: insists on carrying your stuff as he walks you to class / carrying your bag as he walks you home or when you both are on a date together

KONOHA: will let you wear his sweater that’s embedded with his mouth-licking scent (he knows)

ATSUMU: has a photo of you in his wallet in which everytime he opens it, he couldn’t help but let out a smile in adoration

boyfriend suna who takes mental notes on things your eyes would linger a little longer on than usual. he has a great ton of birthday gifts and surprises for each of your birthdays.

boyfriend suna who has the most random things that are actually yours because he thinks having a piece of you with him when you’re not in his arms will make him miss you less but in fact it’s the opposite.

boyfriend suna who shows up at your front door with his socks under his birkens and in his mike wazowski shirt that he got from when he was a kid just because you forgot to kiss him goodnight when you were on facetime 15 minutes ago.

boyfriend suna whose eyes drift off to you when he’s talking to his friends and looks away smiling from ear to ear like an idiot and his face reddens if you caught him staring at you.

boyfriend suna that asks “can i have some of your ice cream?” and either kisses you to have some or BITES the ice cream… there’s no in between

boyfriend suna who sends you silly little vlogs of him when he’s away for a vb tournament and you can hear him saying “i miss you,” and argue with atsumu as usual <3

boyfriend suna who will never and by never i mean never forgive the camera that took a godforsaken, hideous picture of him with his mouth wide open and eyes shut closed during a rollercoaster ride with you smiling widely beside him.

boyfriend suna who always drinks coffees with the foam on top because the first time he did he had a fake white moustache on and it made you laugh and he remembers that was the first time he made you laugh while you two were together.

“did we have an assignment due sometime next month?” 

“akinori, we have midterms next week.” you answered as you took out the frying pan from the kitchen cabinet of your shared kitchen in the university dorm. “you can literally check it on the school website.” 

his heart leapt when he heard you laugh at his rather dumb question. he knew that midterms were next week, and he only forgot the deadline but messed up his words as he tried to strike up a conversation with you. 

“yeah, you see, i just wanted to make sure. we have so many things to do i lost track,” konoha answered sheepishly as he put in his pasta to the boiling water. 

you smiled to yourself as you were making your lunch. there is never a dull day when you’re living in a dorm. everyone are equally stressed especially during exam weeks, but the excitement seeing your friends come into the kitchen during lunch and dinner gives you reassurance. 

a week after you first moved in to the dorm, you noticed the tall dirty-blonde haired boy chattering away with his friends during dinner. there was perhaps something in his laugh that made your heart skip a beat, or maybe how carefree he was and how he could casually strike up a conversation with anyone.  

“well we have the group project due in two weeks, and our individual research paper is due in five days,” you reminded him as he was walking around the kitchen as he waited for his pasta to be cooked. “have you even started studying for the pre-calc test?” 

he dropped his spoon to the table. “oh shit. forgot about that.” your laugh eased him up of his worries for a second. 

“i’m going to be in the study lounge tonight, feel free to join us if you want to revise together,” you said as you set up your food on the plate and proceeded to wash the fry pan. your actions were slower than usual, being careful to not make yourself look like a fool in front of him. “honestly i don’t know if everyone else will be joining tonight, but i’ll be there.”

“i’ll be there,” he replied quickly with a playful smile on his lips as he looked at you. 

you became nervous and wished time would pass quickly, so you can study. not “great, see you then.”

♡ yamaguchi t. — messages you good morning and good night without fail. if you thought that he’ll only do it on the first few months of dating, you were wrong because he’s fully committed to do it until he couldn’t anymore. and in the rare occasions where he couldn’t, he’ll do it in person with a whispered “good morning” or “good night” on your lips after a kiss. will get upset if he couldn’t do it through messages or in person and you’ll have to remind him that it’s totally okay for him not to greet you every morning or night but he won’t stand for it.

♡ tanaka r. — always knows when you’re feeling down even if he’s miles away, it’s like he has a sensor for when you’re upset. it’s so endearing like one second he’s away and then the next he’ll be busting down the door demanding who made you this upset and who he should beat up. please calm him down before he gets in any trouble! on the other hand he’ll hate to see you sad and will do everything in his power to make you happy.
