We’re such salty people. I’m surprise there are still people out there that like us.

I did abandon this fandom, not going to lie. Sorry for using your post as a vent but I’m gonna use this opportunity to really say why I stopped making edits and be active in the fandom.

When I first joined the fandom, there were maybe 3 people who made edits. So I started making edits too. It was really awesome in the beginning. We all had fun and everyone was being nice to each other. I made really good friends @peachestrovosky @hsinnamonroll @mushroom-slut @curlykytta @callhimarcher (whom I persuaded to join tumblr, and whom I feel like I’ve let down).

Then thing started getting nasty, so many new people joined the fandom. So Emilio (my favorite) started getting recognition, and I’ve made so many edits of him. But those original editors (what should I call them? “The originals”?) hated Emilio, they would posts thing that was very upsetting to read. I’m not saying he is an amazing character, Emilio is a piece of shit. So is everyone else in ICOS. 

Suddenly, we can’t just make edits for fun anymore. One of the “Originals” went on a rant, I used to think she was an awesome person and was like maybe one day she notices me. She noticed me alright. She went on a rant on how the new people ruined the ICOS fandom by liking an awful character like Emilio. She even went as far as making a post, tagging it as icos so it shows up on the icos tag about how Sonny should have stayed as a writer writing his lgbtq books instead of writing 100 proof Vega, I was so excited to read it which never got past chapter 10 sadly. 

ICOS isn’t about great character, it’s abut broken individuals who are so broken and messed up by their environments they don’t know right from wrong. Somehow these characters turned into these soft characters who don’ t even feel like they are part of the ICOS world anymore. Instead of broken characters, we got soft and pure characters who are gentle and can do no wrong. These “acceptable” edits and headcanons became what was “acceptable” to post, edits that showed who these characters are were neglected. Instead of finding joy in just making trashy edits and Emilio edits, I find it burden some. I stopped finding the fandom welcoming, but more of a toxic environment. 

Someone will probably ask me why I hate HBK so much, I don’t like them but I’m not gonna be like don’t ship them. You can ship whatever float your ships. I hate what HBK stands for, I hate that this problematic people can be shipped together and it counts as soft and pure. While complex characters and complex ship get ignore under the pretence of being “problematic”. What problematic is that mentally of being “pure”, no one is pure. We are all fucked up in someway, and no one should feel ashamed for liking what they like and having fun with it. 

The reason why I made a meme of HBK shipper because, never once did I ever say that HBK is a shit ship beside private conversations with my friends. But to be outright told that what you like is problematic isn’t a fun feelings. I want these people to see how it feels to not be so high and mighty. 

You couldn't have said it better. I am guilty as well to have abandoned this fandom that I loved so dearly. We had fun, a bloody hell lot of fun here together. We took this place and made it our little home, we chatted, made friends, even hosted a nice secret santa event. It was really beautiful. 

We had all sort of opinions, all sort of likings. There were people who liked Emilio the most, people like me who liked Kassian the most, people who didn’t like Boyd but liked Sin, people who really really liked Boyd... and every opinion was valid. We had fun dragging each other, but we always listened and articulated our thoughts and recognized the faults and the toxic traits of our favourite characters.

ICOS is a dark story with dark, broken characters, and I was a little bit disgusted seeing how forcefully some people wanted to press the idea of “soft pastel Boyd” (and using girls to portray him in every edit like... what the fuck), how good and cute HBK is (I did enjoy their scenes together and you all know it, but it’s... not something that could work, ever), how Emilio was the biggest of all evils, how it wasn’t allowed to treat ICOS as the dystopian world that it is. 

That’s why I gave up. I had other interests, other fandoms, I made a home for me somewhere else and now I can barely remember how the plot of ICOS developed. What I will never forget, though, is the fun time we spent here together and I’m really sorry things ended up the way they did.
