My extremely controversial gaming opinion is that they should allow you to obtain meat in stardew valley and while I understand that the vast majority of people might not want to play with it I also think somewhat that the absence of any such mechanics in a farming simulator is a sign of broader disconnection and alienation from where food comes from etc

I click “skip this update” on a pop up every time I open a file organization app and it’s right back there every time. O click unsubscribe on a newsletter and it keeps showing up in my inbox!! I click “delete my account” and the next time I open the website they suggest I “reactivate”.

A lot of the time there's a crucial fact about talking swords that people miss, which is that they can only ever be abandoned. See, a talking sword is a friend, a family member, even a lover who always wants to be closer to you. She always wants a greater share of your life, for you and her to intertwine deeper and deeper until you and your weapon are the same entity, a goddess of battle with no existence beyond the blade and the hand that wields it. No matter how far you fall, she'll be right there with you, even as everyone else leaves you, horrified by the monster that you've become. Or, perhaps, you stop before you get to that point. You lay down your sword, retire, seek an end to war, anything. But at a point, whether from age or wisdom or death, you no longer hold your sword, and thus she is left alone. And then, generations later, someone takes her up again, and she knows what lies in store. That one day, this one too will set her down, or die as a mortal, and she'll be alone again. There's no other fate.

It is an act of cruelty to give a tool the ability to love.
