Welcome!
This post includes what the blog is about / for, a little bit about us, and the tagging system.
The person who runs this blog uses they/them pronouns, is transgender / genderqueer / genderfluid, bisexual aspec, autistic + adhd, part of a system, has ARFID, barely not able-bodied, and is white.
I am telling you these things so hopefully you can recognize some aspects of yourself in this blog as well, and so you can also be aware of the aspects of our personal lived experience.
Basically, if I say or spread something harmful, please tell me! I want to know so I can fix it.
Use the ask box, anon, messages, whatever you like. If you donât want me to post your specific message, or your username, etc, just let me know and Iâll cover the topic without mentioning you/your blog.
I want this blog to be a place where people feel safe, and where they can hopefully find helpful resources and advice without worrying about racism, colonialism, sanism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, and many more.
I am always open to learning more about the other people I share a planet with, and what I can do to help them. I promise I will listen to concerns with an open mind, even if I donât understand things at first.
A âHope Chestâ:
Several years ago, I learned about the concept of a hope chest from a post I saw here on Tumblr. I canât find it at this moment though.
But basically, a hope chest was something you would place things inside for when you would move out, get married, or generally start your adult life. Dishes, books, recipes, what have you- anything that would give you something helpful when you start out on your own.
So, I started to collect things for my own digital hope chest, in my bookmarks and screenshots. Life advice, how to clean a house, how to cook food, how to make a resume- anything I found or stumbled across that could be helpful in the future.
Iâm only just starting my 20âs, and Iâm already very glad that Iâve collected all this stuff over the years.
So I had the thought of making a side blog for this sort of thing- both for myself, and for others!
This is a blog being run with first-time, young adult sort of advice in mind, but absolutely anyone can use the stuff here. You never stop learning new things, even as an adult. In fact, especially as an adult.
So feel free to use this blog to start your own hope chest stash, or just to reference when you need some help. We also accept asks, @ mentions, and submissions, if you have posts or your own advice that youâd like to share.
Sending In Asks / Submissions:
You can send in advice, resources youâve found, or other helpful things via the ask box or submissions! Anon is on.
You can also ask questions via the ask box as well! Iâll try to answer them if I can, or otherwise post the ask to see if other followers might have answers for you. (Or, Iâll direct you to another blog that could answer your questions better.)
You can also @ mention this blog on posts you think should be added to the collection! It would be very much appreciated.
Tag system:
Main tags:
#hope chest - Any and all resources, advice, etc. General purpose tag to scroll through everything.
#asks - Any and all asks sent in. Questions, comments, advice, jokes.
#submissions - Any and all submissions sent in.
#hope collection - Less resources and how-tos, more abstract advice, poetry, music, and art. Yes, things are bad, and this tag isnât to ignore that, but to remind anyone who needs it that good exists simultaneously.
#described - Posts where all images have image descriptions/alt text, and videos have descriptions/subtitles in plain text.
#undescribed - Posts where images do not have image descriptions/alt text, and videos have no descriptions/subtitles in plain text.
#subtitled - Posts where videos have in-video subtitles.
#no subtitles - Posts where videos have no in-video subtitles.
I will also try to tag any triggers as well, including phobias like arachnophobia & emetophobia.
