How they refuse to acknowledge that Gideon's/Cristabel's death was their choice (Harrow telling Ortus she'll spit in face of anyone calling Gideon's death suicide. That it was all because of Cytherea./Mercymorn hating and blaming Alfred and Augustine for the suicide pact). Their love for the people who had left them behind. Their rage at people around them who act like they should Get Over It.

Building on this, do you think Mercymorn felt a sting of bitterness and guilt when Gideon popped up in Harrow’s body? Do you think Mercy felt like she could have done more, could have fought harder, could have tried something ANYTHING to keep Cristabel?
