“Why are people dropping they/them from profiles” “a lot of people have stopped being nonbinary” “i feel like a lot of people i knew who were nonbinary identify differently suddenly” its the violent exorsexism in larger society and within queer communities that happens like clockwork when there is a rise in anti-queer, anti-trans bigotry.
When fascism spikes, we get a two-fold where folks who cannot or will not assimilate are pushed by our oppressors to reconsider, and fellow queer/trans folks become some of the most aggressive enforcers of that “choice” in an attempt to buy safety within the majority.
This shit is why inter-community discourse is not just petty complaints—the refusal to hold solidarity with the weirdest, loudest, most visible queers in our midst is fascist as well as self-destructive. People are being forced into the closet, forced into labels that make others—including queer and trans people—more comfortable, because comfort and conformity becomes the biggest priority for many when shit hits the fan. And these are the scenarios that dont end up with nonbinary people dead.
You are abandoning the most vulnerable while preaching about privileges, and this saboteur mentality will not even ultimately save you when eventually you are either forced to learn that you do not fit how you thought you did or our oppressors shift the goalposts until even your presentation of sexuality and gender are not “normal” enough anymore.
i stopped giving a shit about "legit" purchases of digital products after i spent $80 on the entire Dark Horse collection of Trigun/Trigun Maximum ebook mangas, learning that I only got access to reading them through a proprietary website ereader function, couldn't download them, and couldn't get a refund, and then literally only a year later, getting an e-mail stating that Dark Horse was shutting down that part of their company and I wouldn't even be able to read them anymore. Fuck that
Pirate shit. Don't feel bad for it. It's not "your fault" that artists, independent or otherwise, can't make a living. You downloading an album or ebook for free isn't the cause of the problem. The cause is capitalism, plain and simple, and pirating is a lucky loophole that will companies are still trying to stomp out.
they’re foreclosing on my mind palace
Please stop being nonbinary too. God only created one gender. You must conform to that.
THERES ONLY ONE NOW?????

i think people are starting to confuse class analysis with bioessentialism. like... no not all men do this, but Men as a constructed social class do do this. that's still okay to say. that is regular material analysis of the world around us.
glimpsed some passing discourse on bluesky yesterday. apparently there is a conflict stirring between "speed readers" and "normal readers", the latter accusing the former of "skimming" and "not comprehensive reading". this was very confusing to me because i was formally instructed in Evelyn Wood's speed reading methods from the 1950s by the Korean war paratrooper who taught the rhetoric class in the weird alt school for morons and dropouts i partially attended as a teenager. and the way Speed Reading was taught to me at the time was specifically as a form of skimming, which is also how it is defined and even judged in speed reading competitions where you only have to hit 50% comprehension of a text to pass. so it is, definitionally, skimming, with pretty bad comprehension, its just that you dont need to read every single thing the same way you would read a novel with prose you wanted to enjoy or whatever. theyre different skills. speed reading was a big fad in the 50s and 60s, JFK was obsessed with it. it has largely been abandoned specifically because it doesnt enable a lot of comprehension of complex texts
anyway, apparently no one told the side of this conflict that considers themselves "speed readers" that "speed reading" refers to a specific technique of skimming a lot of text quickly for basic comprehension, and they are under the impression that "speed reading" means "reading normally, just faster than regular people." then someone got mad at me for pointing out that reading a 137k late 20th century novel in "2 days" wasnt "speed reading", just a respectable--but normal--reading pace. that book (The Vampire Lestat) will take someone reading at 250wpm a smidge over 9 hours to finish, which is like. nothing if youre hitting it on the toilet, before bed, and on the bus to and from work (in my direct experience). 250wpm is how fast someone reads who is mentally sounding out every single word, which fast readers generally do not.
so i think not only is the literacy crisis real, there seems to be a secondary, metaliteracy crisis as well where talking ABOUT reading is now becoming more and more difficult. 250wpm is by no definition "speed reading", nor is it particularly fast for normal reading, so even the understanding of averages is drifting significantly.
maybe don't post every thought you have
suck me from behind or dont. sorry

People on here talk about Laura Palmer like she’s their friend who actually died
Gotta tell you guys something wild in the Chinese fan sphere
So some fanartist drew a “sexy” (read: booby) version of a (cartoon) character who is traditionally very non-sexualised. Fans of the character got mad about it because it’s kind of groundbreaking how that character is written and portrayed and this art totally ignores the entire point of the character. They demanded the art be deleted. In response to that other people said, well what the fanartist did may be distateful but they have every right to draw what they’re into. The two sides fight for days and each starts a harassment campaign and even report their “opponents’” accounts.
So far so typical. But things eventually come to a head and they decide that this will be settled by votes - not through a poll. Through donations to a children’s education charity via each side’s portal. Whoever can get the highest amount of donation wins.
And that is how this charity received over 1 million in donations in three days lol. Oh btw the “freedom of expression” side won by a landslide (960k to 40k)
They weren’t lying when they said that as an adult you have to fight for your life to practice your hobbies
They also weren’t lying when they said that when you fail to do so your soul shrivels up inside your body and dies
i just don't even know what to say. this is despicable, deplorable, and shocking. A bouquet full of power and Mouth. Eyes so yellow they kind of look like egg yolk. thank god he got sent off to The Fishing Boat to fish for the rest of his life!

this activates my like and reblog response
in my opinion, the question isn't "Is RPF ethical?" but rather "Are you engaging with RPF ethically?" and even more importantly, "Are you being stupid about it?"
I personally hate any kind morality thought policing. I'm not Catholic or religious and I do not feel guilty over my thoughts. You are not an inherently evil person because you saw two athletes in an interview and went "Hmmm...... what if...." The Feds are not going to come banging down your door because you wrote about one band member dicking down the other and sent it to your friend.
Wondering about other people's lives is very human. Being nosy about their personal lives is very normal. People have been writing fiction about other people's lives since the dawn of time. Some people even manage to write New York Times Bestselling Books that are "historical fiction" or "alternate reality." It does not make you inherently bad to be curious about the details of someone's personal life. That's being human. Being nosy is kind of fun.
The problem, however, comes with the ways in which people engage with it, and involve the real people in this. Harassing an musician's real girlfriend because it doesn't fit into the RPF ship. Showing up at real sporting events holding signs about how certain teammates should kiss. Trying to get actors to sign art of them fucking their coworker. Flooding social media with comments using the celebrity's full name and speculation. There's a line, there's a fourth wall, and there's fandom etiquette.
I hate the question of "Is RPF ethical" because it feels like morality thought policing. Post your fics on locked accounts, censor someone's name when you tweet about it, blow up your groupchat with hundreds of "DID YOU SEE THE WAY THEY LOOKED AT EACH OTHER??" texts. It's not inherently evil to wonder what other people are doing when they're out of the spotlight. Kill the cop in your mind.
But just have some basic decency and do not involve the real people. Don't cross the line without caring how it affects them. This is basic fandom 101 and lately we have been flying too close to the damn sun! Everyone get more normal about RPF so major news outlets and magazines stop posting articles about "Is RPF ethical?" and blowing up our spot!
Fun fact! Third party sexual harassment is a real problem in the working world! And just because one's job is public facing [e.g. celebrity] doesn't mean that one is exempt from the legal protections against coworker and third party sexual harassment related to your work.
I do think it would help at times for us to remember that celebrities are still service workers, even if highly paid and celebrated ones. Their job is to offer a service of some sort (often entertainment) with a generally positive rapport. One can develop a variety of relationships with service workers, but a lot of the dynamics within that are gonna be restricted by the fact that this person is at their job doing a thing for your benefit, and they are going to weigh decisions differently because of this.
