For most of Season 5, I honestly expected Homelander to win. Not necessarily because of how popular (is that the right word?) he is, but because of cynicism. The Boys as a show is a bleak take on superheroes and US politics. A bitter ending would’ve fit its tone. But that's not what we got.
I know that in fiction, good usually triumphs over evil. But the fact that Homelander lost still feels huge to me. It feels like… okay, if we can beat him, we can beat Trump. We can do hard things.

I don’t know how much I’ve brought it up here, but I fucking adore The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. It’s a strangely comforting way to process the news.
The fact that CBS kowtowed to Donald Trump is absolutely shameful. I don’t usually agree with the people who say stuff like this, but the cancellation of The Late Show is an attack on free speech. It is not what our country was built on, and it is not right.
To paraphrase Jon Stewart from a couple of nights ago: when we finally pull ourselves out of the hell that is this administration, the streets will be filled with joyous noise. And we will pull ourselves out of this. I genuinely believe that we will.
Whatever you do next, Stephen Colbert, you will be sorely missed in late-night. Your joy and political satire that has filled our screens for so many years will be missed.
And to Paramount-Skydance, and the presidential administration of Donald Trump: I know you’re incapable of feeling shame, but you should. You have truly fucked around, and I hope that you one day find out.
I finally got around to watching the opening credits for 007: First Light. The lyrics are a little on the nose, but, man… I love how the James Bond franchise does opening credits.
I also have a slightly unhinged prediction. Based on the second half of the opening sequence, I wonder if the true villain is going to be a woman. The hyperfixation on a female silhouette felt a little too sinister for Bond fanservice. And it also looked like Bond’s face was distorting into a woman’s at the end.

After my last post, I did some journaling about why I find Jon Moxley so physically attractive when I’m an asexual lesbian. I reached some interesting conclusions.
To me, Jon’s body is… real. He’s clearly in shape, but not in an artificial way. More importantly, he’s got hair, scars, and a general air of someone who has been through shit. I also get the sense that Jon doesn't care what other people think about his appearance. In fact, since bulking up, he’s arguably started feeling himself a bit.
I struggle with body dysmorphia and generally low self-esteem. It doesn't help that society has such aggressive messaging about how people should look. So it’s nice to watch Jon be successful while going against the grain.

It's not real evil they have to destroy, it's someone innocent and it turns into a moral dilemma
There are contradicting prophecies and more than one chosen one
The status of being the chosen one isolates and destroys them
To save the world they have to sacrifice who they love - and they are not ready for that
The person who grew up as the chosen one, never actually was the one in the prophecies
They were just chosen, because they were thought to be easily manipulated
They were never chosen to save the world, they were chosen to destroy it

fanfic writers deserve better
if we post too fast, we get accused of using ai (no, you don't know how fast someone can write. you don't even know if the "too-frequent-to-be-human updates" you see are something that have long been finished and sitting in an author's drafts for god knows how long. just because it's recently posted, doesn't necessarily always mean it's recently written too. a lot of writers finish the whole thing first before they start posting it chapter by chapter).
if we take "too long to update", we get people pressuring us to "update faster" even though fanfics are our hobbies and we write for ourselves first and foremost.
if our works are grammatically correct, we get accused of using ai (some of us just love correct grammars).
if our works are not grammatically correct, we get insulted/criticized (mind you, not everybody writes in their native language. kudos to writers who write in their second, or third, or fourth language — I'm willing to bet a lot of people who criticize fanfics because of poor grammar can't even speak other languages besides english).
if our paragraphs are "too long and too detailed", we get accused of using ai.
if our paragraphs are "too short", we also get accused of using ai.
if we are autistic and we write in ways some deem "too robotic", we get accused of using ai.
some people just don't use their brains to think "ai was trained on human-made works, it was trained to look human-made. ai writes this way because the way it writes is the way real humans write — real humans whose works it was trained to mimic". instead they somehow disregard this logic and think "hmmm this work looks ai-generated. I will engage in witch hunt, be a bully and harass writers whose works I don't vibe with".
This right here.
