Additionally I would like clarify something. Some people in the notes appear to be under the impression that this is a reddit-specific phenomenon. I assure you that this is not the case. It is a consistent trend that some of the most popular content farming accounts on basically every social media website are based entirely around posting screenshots of posts from other websites. It is not that the things the screenshots say are at all exceptional, they are usually just text posts in screenshot form after all, but rather being posted as screenshots gives them a sense of implicit value over any old text post. When you see a text post from a tumblr user that is completely normal and you have no reason to have any expectation that the post contains value in any form whatsoever. But when you see a screenshot of a tweet or whatever, you tend to assume that it has some level of value, be that humor, social commentary, etc., because you assume that it would have to have value to be worth screenshotting and sharing on another website otherwise why would the op even bother. You might assume the op is someone who is known for their humor, is a social media personality, or who is noteworthy in some other regard because there has to be some reason that their post was able to be seen by the reposter in the first place. Being experienced with social media as we are has lead to us unconsciously carrying these mental connections without needing to think about it. In many cases these assumptions are actually true of the screenshots in question, there often is some level of value to them that justified them being reposted. However, those who are aware of this phenomenon can take advantage of those exceptions and use them to farm meaningless internet clout. Do not misunderstand, I, myself, and not at all immune to these thoughts and assumptions either, I make them just as much as you probably do.
