Again, I will not fight with 20-yo Austen purists, but I am copying the tags from a reblog of a post that I WILL NOT share, because I'm not here to get into it with them, but the bolded parts are really dumb because The Other Bennet Sister is very aware of what Pride & Prejudice is, but again, THIS ISN'T P&P!

We are not in Lizzie Bennet/Darcy world. We're in Mary's world.

I don't know if this person didn't watch TOBS or is just really bad at critical analysis, but the basis of Mary's character being both awkward and out of place amongst everyone else is literally a follow through from P&P.

This person says Mary has bad manners in P&P...does that not manifest itself as awkwardness for everyone who has to interact with her (hello Netherfield ball?) and would that not, for a character that's now in the driver's seat manifest itself as anxiety because they're very aware of the fact that they're out of step with everyone else around them? P&P Mary might be oblivious, but TOBS Mary isn't.

WHICH IS THE WHOLE POINT!

The "anti-intellectual, pro-sentimentality" dig is absolutely asinine. I've done more intellectual work above than the person in these tags did, and this is just a surface-level analysis based on good media literacy. How are you writing a whole dissertation about a show that you only watched two episodes of???

And slagging off Bridgerton so you can sit on some Regency romance high horse is dumb. TV is supposed to be entertaining. Enjoying something, HAVING FUN watching something is not a crime. Sentimentality is not a high moral failure. It means you're not a fucking robot.

Stop making this about you. It's not about you! I'm sorry, but I am not the reason that you don't have any friends. It's because you're fucking insane. Okay? Your little party? It almost killed everyone. And now you've ruined book club.
