I cannot emphasize enough, museums/zoos/aquariums and the like are at an incredibly dangerous point right now, and itâs breaking my heart that not only is it happening, but itâs happening so much more quietly than it deserves. The main people I have seen sharing information about the crisis museums are in right now are others in the field, and while I know itâs not out of malicious ignorance, because people love these places and donât want to see them gone, itâs scary that these places are dying with so much less fanfare than some of the other institutions threatened by the current situation in the US.
I came across an article from NPR the other day suggesting that unless something changes, ONE-THIRD of museums in the entire country (a loose term that includes certain places like aquariums as well) could be dead before the end of the year (source). A third! Can you even imagine the incalculable loss? And it goes so far beyond the services museums generally provide to the public, like field trips or a place to go on the weekends â not that those arenât important. But museums do so much more than that. If these places die, where do their collections go? Often thereâs no one else who can take them in, and as someone who has spent a significant amount of time in the bellies of museum collections, most people have no idea how many specimens or artifacts would become homeless and in danger of being lost forever. In the case of zoos and aquariums, what happens to their animals? Another friend of mine mentioned on Facebook the other day that the Aquarium of the Pacific is not only in dire need right now, but that a person they know who works with them has said that if they close, theyâll have to euthanize a significant number of their animals. And for the places that do survive, they wonât be unchanged. The science museum I used to work for isnât in danger of permanently closing â yet â but still had make the incredibly difficult call to do a 39% reduction in staff positions, meaning that even when they reopen, the jobs that I and over a hundred and fifty people held before the pandemic â educating, running programs, engaging with visitors on an extra personal level â wonât exist anymore. Another friend of mine doing a museum studies degree has said that even the Smithsonian (the SMITHSONIAN) had to make a similar call and many of her friends doing work there are now jobless.
Your local museum isnât getting help from the government. Museums, zoos, and aquariums have had to beg desperately for stimulus money that hasnât manifested. These are non-profits, that rely on revenue from visitors and memberships for the most part, and as they are responsibly staying closed for everyoneâs safety, they arenât getting visitors. Without some form of help, they are going to drop off the face of the planet, or appear at the other end of this as gutted shells of their former selves.Â
If you want to help, you have two options: get money into the hands of these places directly, or put pressure on your representatives to offer museums and other institutions like them some kind of federal stimulus money. If you can afford it, this is a great time to get a membership to a place you love â many of them are even offering special online programming for members, so itâs more than just a donation. Or you could make a donation, if thatâs a more practical amount for you to spend, because at this point anything helps. And if you canât do that (or even if you can), yell at your senators and representatives to do something. Many places even are offering guidelines for the sorts of things to talk about, like this script from the Monterey Bay Aquarium (although repetitive scripts are less likely to have an impact than individual e-mails, something is still better than nothing, and you could even read over it to figure out how to formulate your own message).
Iâm not usually one to beg people to signal boost something, but itâs breaking my heart that this issue is being ignored. Every day it feels like I have to explain these places are struggling to someone else who didnât know it was a problem, and while I donât blame them for not knowing, I want people to know. I want people to be aware that we are at risk of losing some of our most valuable cultural and educational institutions, not find our after all this is over that theyâre gone. Please talk with people you know about whatâs going on. We need our museums. And right now, they need us too.
Just stab the wool into shape
Is that what needle felting is? I though you needed some sort of base?
This is what felting is. Itâs a very good hobby for somebody who enjoys stabbing ^u^ what do you think I do all day?
Really thought he was gonna get a giant great wigâŚ.hoping actually
Wanna know how it works?
Those needles have barbs that catch and tangle the fibers of the roving (the term for that loose wool) together. The more you stab it the more tightly-packed and the more firm the object becomes. It takes a lot of little stabs to smooth out the texture on the surface and is best done with a single fine gauge needle.
Fun fact: the longer you use a felting needle the sharper it becomes, as the wool polishes the point.
This doesnât bode well for your fingers but hey. Itâs a fun art filled with cute projects, lots of stabbing, blood, and swearing.

YAS GO GIRL ASTRID!
Crazy Rich Asians (2018)
Apparently theyâre making another one about her story with Harry Shum Jr. and Iâm SO HYPED
OH MY GOD YES. YES. YES. YESSSS.
yâall please - book astrid >>>>> movie astrid
I never saw the movie and was horrified when my friend described how Astridâs story arc played out in the movie. I totally agree was way more complex in the book. Iâm afraid if I watch the movie Iâll just see they made her into a stereotypical âstrong woman who doesnât need a manâ rather than a person who was left by the person she loved and had a child with and is reasonably upset and wants answers about it. Maybe Iâll get around to watching it if I can bear the disappointment. Movies rarely live up to the books, though.
hey bi men. yall cool as hell i hope ur having a good day ily

You know what would make DnD just a smidge more interesting? If there was an âimpulsiveâ or a âdignityâ stat assigned to every character.
It wouldnât do much during fights, where each round is choreographed in 6 second intervals and leave no real room for impulse, but in non-combat/social situations, it would be hilarious.
The characters all have a stat 1-10, 1 being âNo Filterâ and 10 being âI Would Never.â At any time, the DM can interject âmake an Impulse Save,â and players would have to roll a D20 and add your stat to itâand Iâm fudging with numbers here, but: anything above a 20 is a Save where nothing happens. Anything between 20 and 10, your DM says âYouâre tempted to⌠x.â Anything below a 10 is an automatic fail.
DM: You walk into the fancy party. There are dignitaries, a giant Throne at the center, and a buffet to the side. And, heck with it. Everyone make an Impulse Save. 1: I got a 27. DM: Youâre free to mingle. 2: I got an 18? DM: Youâre tempted to try to sit on the throne. You start wandering that direction. 3: âŚI rolled a Nat 1. DM: You run over and stick your head in the chocolate fountain.
Characters can have a set number of rerolls to keep things from spiraling out of their control. They can also change the DMâs assessment if they feel itâs out of character; if #3 above was a thief, it might be more likely theyâd klepto the first shiny thing they saw rather than become suddenly obsessed with the buffet. Players can also override the DM by the 3-second rule: if you can shout a setting-appropriate impulsive action before the DM does, that becomes your new action. Sometimes this is in the Playerâs benefit. Sometimes this is the Player shooting themselves in the foot.
DM: Youâre talking to a pretty Elf. She smiles at you. 1: My Character reciprocates. DM: Oh, good. Roll an impulse check, then. 1: âŚoh no. uh. okay, oh noâ DM: Whaâd you get 1: I GOT A 4 DM: Alright, so you lean in andâ 1: I DROP MY TROUSERS DM: âOkay, I was going to have you kiss her, but sure, you can drop your pants, that works too. 1: GODDAMN IT
Characters like Priests, Monks, or Paladins probably have a high Impulse Control after years of training, and would be unlikely to, say, throw a lemon pie in the Kingâs face. But since having a stat of 9 almost guarantees you will never fail an Impulse checkâŚ
To make things interesting, Characters with a high Impulse statâ7 or aboveâhave to make Dignity checks. Anything this character attempts that is silly, rambunctious, or requires snap decision making, has to first make a Dignity check. It works the opposite as an Impulse Save. Anything below 15 is a go. Anything between a 15 and 20 is âYouâd love to, butâŚâ and anything above a 20 is an immediate âNope.â No, you canât wear that guardâs disguise, itâs frilly. No, you canât shout across the market to warn your friend about an illusion, youâll look crazy. No, thereâs no way in hell youâre gonna be The Distraction.
Life-Or-Death circumstances can serve as bonuses to your Dignity check, knocking off a few extra points in the name of saving someoneâs life. Players can also force their characters to do the undignified action anyway, to allow for free will into the plot, but any bending of these rules will cause a small amount of Stun or Physical damage to the Character in question, plus surefire humiliation later.
âŚThe concept is a work in progress, but I honestly think it would make non-combat scenarios just a little more fun.
I really need help. I have two medications waiting fo me at the pharmacy. One is $246 and the other is $62. I have about $23 in my bank account. I need these medications to function. I can barely move without them, and Iâm confined to bed without them.

water is a human right. water should be free, at all times, no conditions. all cities should provide public access to free and clean drinking water, toilets, showers, sinks, and soap.

just a reminder that âbeing gay isnât a personality traitâ is just an evolved form of âi donât care if youâre gay i just donât want to see itâ. no gay man thinks itâs their only personality trait, no lesbian thinks itâs their only personality trait, no trans person thinks itâs their only personality trait. youâre just annoyed by someone embracing a large part of themselves and being comfortable in their body and in a community of people like them.
Me: Hi
Bisexual character written by a straight person: Oh! I donât like labels. I donât like to pick sides. I just like people. I like to shop at two different grocery stores. I like to eat at Burger King and McDonalds, if you know what I mean. Letâs just say I wear two different socks. I prefer ketchup AND mustard on my hamburgers. Iâm just gonna say that I own two different pairs of underwear. I donât want to be like one of those people, but how about I just say that I like to drink my coffee from two different mugs?

Damn this one cuts deep huh? Where are y'all extracting these memories from??
Whatâs this about street light? The screen lights up anyway.
I think they mean on the original gameboy, before the screen was backlit. You had to have light to see the screen and in the car at night and people would use the light from the streetlights they passed.
SeriouslyâŚi have no followers but itâs CasâŚâŚ this is my very first painting of a portraitâŚ.
