I want them realising their feelings but not making a move for the sake of the team.

I want them both knowing what they want but holding back, finally letting something slip, but still not going any further.

I want them at the breaking point, where they both know there's no turning back but hating it because they know what will happen next.

I want it to tear the team apart, everyone happy for them being together but off kilter because of how it changes the dynamic

I want one of them forced to leave the team at first, and Bobby can't do anything to prevent it. Maybe one has to switch to B shift, but then they never see each other. Maybe one transfers to another station, so their time off aligns more, and maybe they see each other on calls sometimes, staring wistfully at his old team.

I want the wistful longing for the Before, while being so happy outside of work they hate that other part of themselves because how could they even consider losing this?

“So, did you have something you were gonna ask me?”

“I can't remember.”

the optics of making a brown woman from the real world, who faces much greater challenges by virtue of being brown, dry the tears of a white woman who's finding out about oppression for the first time in ~35 years is very on brand for a movie made by a white woman. missed allegory potential there, but i wouldn't call that regressive.

it's just not progressive either. my perspective on barbie is best explained by this excerpt from kristen j. warner's article on plastic representation (no pun intended, worth a read in its entirety). they're speaking specifically about their Black culture but similar sentiments can apply for representation in media of other marginalized groups.

Let me be clear: while I do not share the popular expectation for mediated imagery to matter, its overdetermining of black images as the marker of societal progress or regression makes any image acceptable on its face, obliterating context and sidelining any consideration of depth. Thus have images in the era of representation matters become hollowed, malleable signs with artificial origins. Their artificiality connects to a condition that could be termed “plastic representation.” Plastic, in the denotative sense of a “synthetic material…that can be molded into different shapes,” supplies a useful starting point for unpacking just how plastic representation operates as a place of synthetic malleability. Plastic is an ever-shifting artificial material whose purpose is shaped by its essence. There is no great depth in plastic, nor is there anything organic.

in the end, this soundbite-worthy monologue, awkwardly placed at the end of a fantastic fast-paced sequence, doesn't actually make a marginalized person like me feel seen as intended (even tho it’s supposedly feminism for all) unless i stopped thinking critically in the last in 10 yrs.

if you don’t like how somebody is characterizing your blorbo - ignore/block. 

If you follow someone you like, but notice they post things that you don’t like? block the tags. 

If you see someone tag something incorrectly/don’t tag it at all? kindly inform them. 

If you see somebody make a mistake, do not attack them. human error is a thing, and most of the time people are super apologetic about it. 

You’re absolutely allowed to be passionate about what you love, but your experience engaging in fandom is entirely your own. 

And honestly, if the experience feels overwhelming or is making you miserable, just log off for a few days…take a deep breathe, go outside, bathe in the sun or sit under a tree… but follow and engage with others who make this joyful for you (that’s the whole point here!)
