Sending this publicly in case anyone else wants to send fic referrals for you!
Because i liked you better- by secretwriter22 some smut mostly story, unbetad so its a little clunky and awkward but the story is sweet overall! Ive read it twice now
A blaze in the dark- by woodchuc_magnum some smut at the end but mostly plot and character driven overall good story very realistic and enjoyable the author took so much time building sympathy for some of the characters that it was kinda hard to root for buckĆ eddie lol
Drive a cowboy crazy- by ebjameston quick read mostly smut but its fun.
Like any unloved thing- by hmslusitana au that sort of references Jennifer love hewitts ghost whisperer days but if you like those "i love you in every universe" type fic this is definitely that. Endings a bit rushed but the world building is really top notch
Those two firefighters is of course a Fandom classic if you haven't read it. This fic is literally the reason I started watching 9-1-1
Anygay! Hope you enjoy
absolute legend!! thank you

Tim Minear on being asked if there's a double meaning behind that scene: "Your mileage may vary, but I wrote it, so you can probably take a guess"

Your father and I will will always love, but you are risking your life for a thankless job, and we cannot be supportive of this any longer. // You really thought I was gonna come in first? Of course I did.
As much as I love it in fic when it's all just a matter of "Bobby has the paperwork all ready" I don't want it to be like that in canon.
I want them realising their feelings but not making a move for the sake of the team.
I want them both knowing what they want but holding back, finally letting something slip, but still not going any further.
I want them at the breaking point, where they both know there's no turning back but hating it because they know what will happen next.
I want it to tear the team apart, everyone happy for them being together but off kilter because of how it changes the dynamic
I want one of them forced to leave the team at first, and Bobby can't do anything to prevent it. Maybe one has to switch to B shift, but then they never see each other. Maybe one transfers to another station, so their time off aligns more, and maybe they see each other on calls sometimes, staring wistfully at his old team.
I want the wistful longing for the Before, while being so happy outside of work they hate that other part of themselves because how could they even consider losing this?
I want them to need to put up a fight to be together in all the ways they want, and to have each others backs through it all
Tori and Jade had more moments in one episode than Jade and Beck in the entire show.
What episode, you may be wondering? Litellary ANY

Ferrera said it felt like she filmed 500 takes of the speech over the two days of filming, adding, āIt was probably 30 to 50 full runs of it, top to bottom. By the end, [co-star Ariana Greenblatt] recited the monologue to me because she had memorized it because thatās how many times I had said it.ā
Barbie (2023) dir. Greta Gerwig
The most basic, milquetoast girlboss feminism ever and people act like this film did something special. It's pop feminism. Beyonce feminism. Honestly the weird feminist rants were so out of place, they felt so unnatural and shoehorned into the movie. Like we were never gonna get any kind of actual substantial feminism in the movie, nor should there have been imo, but this tiktok feminism Added nothing to the film. Also if the movie wanted to be really feminist and about "girl power" and shit, there wouldn't have been the "5 o clock shadow" barbie. You know who I'm talking about.
no need to be transmisogynistic and racist to criticize this scene. anyone who identifies as a woman is a woman. and using beyonce as your example of 'pop' feminism should've been telling for me when taylor swift, the uncontested queen of white 'tiktok' feminism even after dating an every -ist man unapologetically, was right there. i apologize for my oversight. i've deleted my og rb w/o comment to issue a self-correction below.
the optics of making a brown woman from the real world, who faces much greater challenges by virtue of being brown, dry the tears of a white woman who's finding out about oppression for the first time in ~35 years is very on brand for a movie made by a white woman. missed allegory potential there, but i wouldn't call that regressive.
it's just not progressive either. my perspective on barbie is best explained by this excerpt from kristen j. warner's article on plastic representation (no pun intended, worth a read in its entirety). they're speaking specifically about their Black culture but similar sentiments can apply for representation in media of other marginalized groups.
Let me be clear: while I do not share the popular expectation for mediated imagery to matter, its overdetermining of black images as the marker of societal progress or regression makes any image acceptable on its face, obliterating context and sidelining any consideration of depth. Thus have images in the era of representation matters become hollowed, malleable signs with artificial origins. Their artificiality connects to a condition that could be termed āplastic representation.ā Plastic, in the denotative sense of a āsynthetic materialā¦that can be molded into different shapes,ā supplies a useful starting point for unpacking just how plastic representation operates as a place of synthetic malleability.Ā Plastic is an ever-shifting artificial material whose purpose is shaped by its essence. There is no great depth in plastic, nor is there anything organic.
in the end, this soundbite-worthy monologue, awkwardly placed at the end of a fantastic fast-paced sequence, doesn't actually make a marginalized person like me feel seen as intended (even tho itās supposedly feminism for all) unless i stopped thinking critically in the last in 10 yrs.
still, this is just my opinion about the material, which is not the same as your 'opinion' that transwomen shouldnāt exist in barbieland. thatās not a valid opinion. transwomen are women who deserve to live in their truth anywhere and everywhere, just like we all do. thatās non-negotiable. stop making your insecurities everyone's problem.

can I just-
if you donāt like someoneās blog? unfollow them.Ā
If you donāt like someoneās fic? stop reading it.Ā
if you donāt like how somebody is characterizing your blorbo -Ā ignore/block.Ā
If you follow someone you like, but notice they post things that you donāt like? block the tags.Ā
If you see someone tag something incorrectly/donāt tag it at all? kindly inform them.Ā
If you see somebody make a mistake, do not attack them. human error is a thing, and most of the time people are super apologetic about it.Ā
Youāre absolutely allowed to be passionate about what you love, but your experience engaging in fandom is entirely your own.Ā
And honestly, if the experience feels overwhelming or is making you miserable, just log off for a few daysā¦take aĀ deep breathe, go outside, bathe in the sun or sit under a tree⦠but follow and engage with others who make this joyful for you (thatās the whole point here!)
because there is literally zero reason for you to send hate messages, fight with people online, or get angry over fictional characters or ships.Ā
