i need you, i need you babe, oh i want to drink you in like oxygen, like oxygen baby, i'm a house on fire and i want to keep burning boy, i'm going up in flames and you're to blame yeah, you're to blame baby, i'm a house on fire and i want to keep burning i wanna keep burning i wanna keep burning i wanna keep burning baby, i'm a house on fire
skylar flicked her hair back and picked back up her red solo cup. she wasnât supposed to be drinking, but who was going to judge her for doing it ? HER SISTER WAS DEAD. the least she could have is a smirnoff ice. sky had left the memorial service very swiftly about an hour ago after bursting into tears and attaching herself to her motherâs left side. it wasnât good for her reputation and besides, all of it felt wrong. henry would have scoffed at the idea of a memorial in her honor. SHE WAS MORE OF AN IRISH FUNERAL TYPE. â if one more person tells me theyâre sorry for my loss, iâm gonna start throwing punches,  â skylar said, apropos to nothing. â donât talk to me if itâs not to make uncomfortable jokes that maybe she, like me, will come back from the dead. or offer me illicit drugs for free. â
âwell that settles that then,â del speaks holding their hands up to mirror surrender. âi was just going to offer you some non judgemental company,â their first thought had been to offer to refill her drink but even delaney could see why that was not the best idea. she wasnât going to try and lecture the other on grief, they hadnât appreciated when people had done it to them, either as a teenager or an adult, but giving the other the option not to be alone was perhaps the best she could do. âiâll even try to get people out of your hair if you want. i could try and tell you a jean grey themed punchline but we both know my jokes are shit,â

âif i die-â if you ASKED kena whether she thought sheâd live forever, sheâd lift her shoulders upwards with an air of not caring either way, and put it to you simply : she didnât know. no one did. she had as much insight into her own possible immortality as the rest of the world had into their own, but she wouldnât have been being facetious with such wording of an answer, just like she wasnât being so right now. the only thing hard to know was whether her ( unique ) views came from growing up around the x-men ( who seemed to treat death as a temporary condition, like the FLU ), or being the grandchild of jean grey and scott summers ; two family lines that had skewed things permanently all on their OWN. âmy funeral has to be something like this. cut the memorial shit. i want gangnam style playing while people do tequila shots off my hot pink coffin, andâŚ- i donât fuckinâ know. people in a corner teaching my kid how to roll her first joint to remember me by, instead of telling her stupid stories that wonât even matter by then. henry knew what was what.â
it only takes one glance at del to tell that theyâre uncomfortable, that she would have avoided the bonfire if they could. they didnât do funerals of any kind, too much own personal trauma, but henry was family, despite the fact that the two of them were never close and so del makes an effort to suffer through it. âiâm not even sure i want one,â they scoff turning to the other, picturing the image for a second, near shuddering at the fact that she was going to have to be buried because there was no way her body was going to burn. âgangnam style really? that iâm judging you for,â they take a sip from their drink then turning to the other properly. âyou could have at least gone for a classic like highway to hell or ring of fire,â should she have been advocating this kind of response? of course not, but itâs better than anything else she tried. âyou got that right,â they nod. ânot that they have any idea whatâs even happening now,â
Rohen breaks out in a grin the size of Emmaâs diamond collection at the sight of his triplet with food and coffee. âYour spot as my favorite family member remains tied with mom.â He replied, shutting his laptop and holding a hand out. âBut if this coffee doesnât have soy milk, youâre on thin ice, Del.â
they hand him the food and slide him drink before sliding him his drink. her expression sours then. âyou really think iâd forget soy milk? you realise youâre in my head like constantly right?â she focuses on sorting out her own lunch then. âiâm still judging you that stuff is actually disgusting,â there was no way she was putting any near her cup of tea if she could help it.
scott couldnât help but chuckle as he heard his daughterâs announcement, a wide smile quickly spreading across his face as he turned to look at her. âperhaps this is a job better suited for your mother,â he added, before falling into a brief fit of laughter. of course he was glad that delaney wanted to ask him, he just knew he wasnât exactly known for giving good advice. âas someone whoâs repainted my own apartment twice- i canât pass any judgment. however, i would recommend working one room at a time,â he laughed, âof course, iâm always willing to help you out.â
âis it though?â del joked with a shake of her head. âwe both know that iâd end up with the same color scheme as the house,â it teasing smle plays at her features as she rather enjoys the fact that she can just relax for a while. even she, someone who it would be easy to presume enjoyed taking the problems of the world on her shoulders, need time to breath every once and a while. especially around their father where they had space to. ânow wheres the fun in that?â she jokes. âthanks dad. iâm sure we can convince rohen to help out too. it wont seem so bad,â

@thevalorousâ // âso hereâs the thing,â del spoke from where she was near lying on her fatherâs couch. âi need to tell me that iâve had a stupid idea,â itâs not unusual to find her with either of her parents when she needed some kind of company, after the stress of the past few weeks she doubted anyone could really blame her. it was nice to be able to be around him without the burden of something weighing down on her shoulders. even if recent trauma was proof that she should think herself lucky to have her father alive and breathing. âi was in my apartment early and came to the conclusion that i hate it, but i feel like trying to repaint it all by myself is a bad idea,â
âNot even joking, I will pay you so much to go roller-skating with me!â Devyn dramatically slapped their hands on the table. âI got like, a hundred bucks in Monopoly money.â
âi donât know i mean i can be pretty expensive company,â she laughed teasing the other. delaney had exactly no desire to do something as ungraceful as roller-skating but that didnât matter. âbut i suppose if you really want to go iâm sure we can figure something out,â
Dinah ran a hand through her hair, forgetting that dirt caked her hands. She knelt in front of a potted plant and took the time to take care of the plant despite the powers that would make this entire thing much easier. Reaching for the spray bottle she carried, she bumped into the bag of soil beside. âShit.â Red crept onto her cheeks. âShit, okay, I promise I planned to do that
âlet me guess, spilling soil encourages the plant to grow right?â they teased gently with a brow raised for good measure, though del wasnât really judging. theyâd done much worse themself. âdo you want a hand or have you actually got this under control?â del wasnât usually the flower kind of person given the nature of their powers but that didnât mean they wouldnât try.
⧟ meaghan rath, demigirl, she/they / house on fire + feeling guilty over an accident, leather jackets, flower tattoos, that one eye roll saved for family ⧽ ââ let me tell you a thing or two about DELANEY FROST-SUMMERS. the TWENTY NINE year old daughter of EMMA FROST & SCOTT SUMMERS is a BARTENDER in town, and has sometimes been referred to as THE HELLCAT. theyâve always seemed very INTELLIGENT & INDEPENDENT, though iâve heard that they can be pretty HARSH & SPITEFUL, too. itâs common knowledge that they have the power of PYROKINESIS & SLIGHT TWIN TELEPATHY ; guess we shouldnât get on their bad side, huh?Â
tw: death, tw: fire
BIO:
1. your birth is shrouded in sadness. you are a triplet, one third of a whole and yet the moment you are stripped of that title. one third of you does not survive and if you were not such a small child yourself, you life would have been ruined by that feeling of part of you dying.
2. still you are so incredibly loved, your parents adore you and you grow up safe not wanting for anything. your family is likely the largest in existence and you love it. youâve never been the type of person to do well in isolation, youâre a true extrovert that way. needing to have people around you.
3. your telepathy shows itself at a young age, likely due to your motherâs sheer power. it binds you and your twin together further and yet exactly no one is surprised. you are taught to embrace your mutation, to love that part of you and you do whole heartedly. nothing is more fun than being able to talk to your twin from anywhere and you two grow skilled incredibly fast.
4. you can however only communicate with your twin, no matter how hard you might try to use your telepathy on anyone else. you try to talk to your father about it, confused young eight year old that you are, only for him to tell you very gently
5. you really are one smart kid. you spend your days learning just about everything you can about science, day dreaming about being anything from a doctor to an astronaut to an archaeologist. thereâs not a doubt in anyoneâs mind that you could actually get there if you wanted. the dream changes as you get older. once you learn what it is your parents do there is no doubt in your mind: you were going to be an x-man. save people just like your parents.
6. still you get older eight turns to eleven and eleven turns into nearly sixteen and still your mutation doesnât change. aside from your link to your twin youâre pretty much normal. how ironic that two of the worlds best known mutants have a daughter whoâs almost normal. you try not to think about it, throwing yourself into anything else that you can, but the doubt and upset in the back of your mind is something you have to deal with eventually.
7. be careful what you wish for. isnât that how the saying goes? your second mutation shows itself at the worst possible time. you are just sixteen years old, having a sleepover at your best friendâs house when a fire starts in the middle of a fight. youâre angry and hurt and not really thinking. especially when you realise that the source of the fire isnât anything around you but you yourself. the fire is coming from you and once it starts you canât stop it.
8. your parents arrive eventually, managing to calm you down to the point that your not a danger to anyone, by this point however it is already much too late. two people died in that fire, no matter how much you tried to help them. the law doesnât exactly look kindly on mutants and to this day you are convinced that the only reason that you arenât subjected to a fate worse than death.
9. instead you find yourself enrolled at the xavierâs institute. a dream for you once, now it leaves a bitter taste in your mouth. itâs hard. harder than anything else youâve had to face. youâre a late bloomer and as a result peers your age all seem so much controlled. then thereâs the self loathing, the sleep less nights. the sickness you feel in your stomach when you think about the way that you managed to let everyone down. your mind is a battlefield and everyone around you knows it.
10. itâs not really a surprise that things become too much for you. with everything that happened youâre almost expected to be overwhelmed. running away was still something else. now you hate to picture what it did to your parents to wake up one day and for you to simply be gone. you come back two years later: nineteen years old. your hair is shorter, youâve got a few scars and youâve been through hell but youâve also learnt what you needed to. you donât shy away from your fire now: itâs a part of you just like your telepathy.
11. your father dies when your in your early twenties. youâve only just got him back and then you loose him again. the m-pox is fast and brutal. you donât even get to say goodbye.
12. so you spend most of your twenties without your father, anger rages in you like an inferno and yet you try hard to be strong for everyone else. itâs what your dad would have done after all. youâre own emotions donât matter. instead you focus on your mother, or you brother. on anything that you can. the hellfire club is a welcome distraction, given your motherâs changes to it. itâs a place for all that energy.
13. itâs scott coming back the life that leaves you to paragon. your family has spent so long shattered, broken. that the chance have to have everyone together is too sweet even for you. youâre not an x-man, you donât think you ever will be but you have the hellfire club, you quite like the bar you work and you are at least surrounded by your family.
16. the death of a family friend is something that hit delaney hard. having only really began to put the deaths in her past behind her to focus on something she sees as better. henriettaâs death has just returned so many emotions back to the surface. it means that she is far too qualified to comfort those who are morning but it also means not only is she terrified that something like this could happen at paragon. sheâs also angrier than ever which is incredibly dangerous.
FACTS:
donât get me wrong delaney is not cold, she feels all her emotions, if anything she feels everything too much. if her mother is ice than delaney is a raging fie. ready to fight the world it means things will get better.
she has a few really close relationships (read: august has been her best friend since she was like six years old) but sheâs relatively hard to get to know. with her past itâs really not surprising that she has a number of trust issues.
has a handful of tattoos and will be getting more.
has two moods when dressing herself: either a fashionista or constantly wears the same three outfits. del has yet to discover any other option.
the only superhero team she supports is the x-men no you can not change her mind.
WANTED:
regulars. delaney is a bartender!! that means she probably has a regular or two. even though she pretends not to care about people i can imagine that there are one or two who are her favorites that she doesnât mind spending time around.
chaotic x-squad. shamelessly uses my favorite x-men trope to make a wc. growing up mutants often have to lean on each other: this group were no different. theyâre all adults now and have likely gone in many different directions, but theyâre bound but the time they spent together and delaney would do anything for any of them. (pinterest section: x ).
painful ex. likely from the time she spent away from home at 17/18 these two were supposed to last, and yet like everything else in delaneyâs life it ended badly. heâs one of the very few people delaney could be called soft around so for the two of them to be in the same place again is a very odd situation for her. (pinterest section: x).
best friend. pretty self explanatory these two are rid or die. she brings out delâs best whilst also being aware of some of her worst. (pinterest section: x).

wicker bridge was not an extraordinary sort of structure. to see it at a distance was not to feel awe, and to get up close to it was to see how decrepit it was becoming, all too quickly. the town hadnât channeled much money into it since the new bridge had been opened only the year prior, and the wooden beams were slowly rotting away. only those who appreciated the short cut it provided and the few who loved the picturesque way the huge willow trees curtained either side even used it, anymore. tessie was the latter. in the summertime, the flowers that bloomed on the river bank below and in the trees themselves were simply⌠breathtaking. for that reason alone, the bridge had been the site of their third photoshoot.
they yellow police tape that had blocked the path through had not been taken down when the authorities had finished up, but been left to tatters. tessie ( hands shaking something fierce ) had stepped over a line of it, a few meters back. they were trying not to think of it, as much as they were trying not to think about what it must have looked like a week before, to look down from where they came to a stop out on raging waters down below. only once they were leaning against the side of the bridge did they really realize that⌠this was not the place to COME, to try and make sense of everything. they just hadnât been thinking very clearly.
this ânot thinkingâ carried on - right up to the MOMENT that they heard a board of the wooden bridge creak. pushing their force field outwards was as easy as exhaling, and they did it with a start ; turning on their heel, eyes wide - letting the fact that they were undeniably on edge, here, dictate their RESPONSE to the sudden appearance of another. âiâm sorry-â it seemed all that ever seemed to pour from them was apologies, but while they meant it as much now as everâŚ- the field of energy around them did not immediately drop. âi didnât hear you comingâ are you alright?âÂ
itâs not that delaney had left her apartment to come looking for the girl, but knowing her as she did, her mind had a hunch. one that she just had to check. there can be no doubt that the past week had been hard. death was not an easy thing to deal with, especially when the deceased was someone close like a  friend or in the younger girlâs case a family member. itâs a pain delaney knows all too well, something hidden in the shadows now. she had been lucky her father had come back from the dead, but that didnât mean she didnât have vivid memories of pain that had been caused by loosing. never ending darkness was the only way that she could have even began to describe it. such a feeling of hopelessness that that she wouldnât wish on someone, especially not someone she loves.
sure enough tessie is there standing on the bridge when delaney moves to approach it. her attempt to comfort the girl is inevitably foiled by the way she ends up flat on her back and the receiving end of the girlâs mutation. âiâm going to let you get the better of me just this once, but if anyone else asks i will deny it,â it was a bad time for jokes. too much pain there in the air around them, but delaney had never been an especially caring creature. perhaps it was enough that in that moment she was trying. âwhat are you doing here tess? surely other places would be better...â
âI really do not understand why people feel the need to air their grievances with mutants when I tell them I plan to be a mutant rights lawyer.â Isaac stretched his back, his wings stretching with it. âThey say all this to a mutant with wings!â
âi hate to sound like every old person out there, but it really doesnât get much better,â delaney spoke with a grimace. âthe best advice charles like i can give is simply not to listen, but even that is harder to do than youâd think,â
âWait!â Rohen called out, fingertips hurriedly typing away. After a long moment, he finally looked up in surprise to see the person still there. âOkay, go ahead.â
her eyes roll before she can stop herself, but she waits anyway. the grin on her features giving away just how happy she is to see him. thereâs two coffee cups being carried in her left hand and a paper bag full of food in her right. âi brought lunch,â she tellâs him telepathically. âfigured you could take a break for a little while,â
