Also, I love the Bats, and recognize that it is by far the most popular subset of the fandom. (4 times bigger than it's closest rival on AO3!) I'd love to see the full spectrum of the DCU represented, so I encourage submitting for smaller subfandoms! But Bats are just as welcome. (And that's what a lot of my recs are going to be.)

Note for submitters:
You are absolutely allowed to give me different tags than the authour added. The goal of this blog is to draw readers to fic they haven't read before, and that includes offering new perspectives on fics they may have already seen! Readers can still look at the authour's tags after clicking the link. (some things, like the 'Other Relationship' tag, NEED to be different from the authour's, since most sites don't have them as an option!)

I actually found this when looking for fics about the Newsboy Legion, the adult Newsboys are main characters in this fic as they decide what information to give the new Superboy when they find out about him. Theres so much love and care in this fic and it HURT and I love this fic and I love how much thought is in it. The fic made me cry twice (in a good way)

The coveted case fic/character study. It's told from Damian's pov, close 3rd person, and commits to it. He's genuinely terrible, he's competent, he's dedicated, he's bizarre, and he's a kid. Very compelling. 19k, 6/? chapters, just updated after a hiatus
Arkham Knight’s words are clipped. “Are you saying I have cat ears?”
It takes Dick’s brain a generous moment to catch up. He’s all gunked up, slow to process. Definitely not firing on every cylinder. Probably not even half of them.
“Yeah.” Dick narrows his eyes, gaze locked on said ears. “Don’t you?”
“They’re b–” Arkham Knight snaps, then abruptly cuts himself off. Takes an audible breath even through the helmet. “No. I don’t.”
“You totally do,” Dick argues, tone dreamy. His eyes slide back down. He grins. “It’s cute. You’re a kitty cat. Big, buff, scary kitty cat.”

Dick gets a concussion mid-fight and is miraculously saved by none other than the Arkham Knight. While waiting for the cavalry, they chat. It leads to something neither of them quite expected.

i, too, upon seeing arkham knight had the thought "kitty???" and it feels only right that dick gets the chance to say it to jason's (obscured) face. funny and cute ♡
personally i think having the ship/pairing names tagged is more than enough, bc if someone is trying to avoid those pairings they should probably already have it blocked, right?? idk.
i’m not opposed to an extra incest tag or warning, but i do agree that it would probably be hard to implement in a way that doesn’t start devolving into “you must tag every ship i personally view as incest regardless of fic content or any other context.”
So most of the responses have either been 'I don't think the warning is necessary', or 'I'd be fine with the warning but I can see how it would be challenging.' It's quite possible we've already scared most of the people who would strongly prefer an incest warning away!
Also, other than some rare adult Dick/Jason fic, there are very few incest-focused fics that wouldn't already get the dubcon or underage warnings. So people can already filter them in most situations.
For an incest tag I think it would maybe be helpful to add it as a possible warning to submission form. Incest portrayals in fics can range pretty widely form "author is treating characters like they aren't related" to "this is 100% acknowledging they're related and kinking on it" to "incest happens and it's being treated as seriously as it is in real life (ie traumatic for character(s)". I think letting it be self reported would maybe help get the gist of it, especially consider there are people who say DickBabs and TimSteph are incest coded and they've canonically played tonsil hockey together and you aren't going to make everyone happy with things like that in fandom. Plus comics are basically soap operas that like throwing in surprise relations and clones, so there are 100000% fics that where written pre-[insert reveal here]
I do think that a blood related ship should get an incest warning no matter what though if you decide to make one

On the topic of a possible incest tag: I would like if it was there only on fics that draw attention to it being incest, as I think that’s a very different vibe than say, an au with characters that happen to be related by adoption in the source material. But also I don’t super mind not having one, as I just filter out the tags for ships I don’t like anyway, and I think you had a very good point about not wanting this blog to become a place for people to find authors to attack because of what they write.
Okay, I am STRUGGLING to word the post about incest and whether we should tag for it. The post keeps degenerating into rambles about my history in fandom. I suspect y'all don't need to hear about how I got into fandom before Cass got adopted, and therefor think CassTim being automatically incest is inaccurate!
Anyways, if anyone has thoughts, please send them in. The floor is open.

If you were submitting a fic, would you be able to recognize if a fic was actually interested in depicting incest, as opposed to just having 2 characters that had been mentored by the same person?
Am I inviting problems by opening up this discussion? Have you personally been harassed because of this topic? And, given that I'm half asleep, am I accidentally coming off as overly hostile?

Hey! I really appreciate this blog and I admire your dedication to not restricting what content is submitted/what you post.
That being said, have you considered adding a tag for specific content that can be filtered by people who don't want to see it? It seems like recently every third post is incest/batcest/whatever you want to call it, and the only way to avoid it and the noncon/dubcon/underage sex is to unfollow and avoid every post.
Again- I don't have a problem with people submitting whatever they want or you allowing it. AO3 draws a line with certain content and has easy access filters. People can consume whatever content they want, but they also have the same right to avoid whatever content they want.
I also understand this is a blog you run for no pay. If this isn't something you're interested in doing or even have the time for, that's fine. Just a suggestion!

You can filter out (In the 'Filtered Post Content' section) the various pairings. I almost always do them in the order of oldest character to youngest - 'Dick Grayson/Jason Todd', 'Tim Drake/Damian Wayne', 'Bruce Wayne/Jason Todd', etc. I recommend a lot of 'Jason Todd/Tim Drake', and you can probably get rid of half the posts you don't want to see just by filtering that tag! (We just finished a bunch of 'Dick Grayson/Jason Todd' recs by a submitter, so those will be dying down if elliot doesn't send in some more.)
You can also filter 'shippy' and 'Subfandom: Batfamily', and click 'view post' on filtered posts that only have one of the filters. You'd also miss out on some Batfamily posts that you might be okay with, but you wouldn't have to add a whole bunch of new filters.
I am very careful about what tools I provide. I really don't want people to be able to easily use this blog to find creators to attack.
'Batcest' is a label that I've seen used in negative contexts FAR more than in neutral ones, AND who is included can vary quite a bit. If people wanted an 'Incest' tag I'm definitely open to it, but it would probably be reserved for fics that actually focus on the incest angle, not just everything that has Batkids in romantic relationships. (I'll make a post to let people tell me their opinions in a moment.)
There's also @dccomicsficrecs, if you're into canon-focused DC fic! They don't allow explicit underage fic at all, and have a lot lower percentage of Batkid slash. There isn't a specific tag to block, as far as I can tell, but the tone is quite different and it probably won't be as much of a problem!
But yeah, we have a lot of fic you'd call Batcest. And a lot of dubcon. I'm a romance-repulsed aroace, and JayTim is the only ship I've ever been able to get invested in. (There are others that I am mildly positive about, but I rarely seek out anything else shippy.) I also like processing emotions through (often intense) hurt/comfort. I'm submitting 1/6th of the fic, so that kind of stuff will be hard to avoid. I'm sorry.
If you can survive all the icky fic long enough, you can help change things by submitting stuff that's more to your tastes! And reblogging the fic that match your tastes to attract other people with similar tastes to the blog! You would not BELIEVE how much the blog changed after one guy started sending in a bunch of Justice Society fic, and then all his friends started sending in similar stuff! We were even MORE Batcentric before he showed up!

I love how this story builds. How Tim is given space, both by Jason and by his family. The implications of how hard-won the older Tim's independence was, and how Bruce seems to be struggling not to take advantage of his son's newfound vulnerability to keep him at home. There are some REALLY rich relationships here, and I love how they're navigated! (The dubcon is everyone's concern about how amnesia is affecting Tim's ability to meaningfully consent.)

Jason undoubtedly believes he is both lucky and unlucky.
He is a living paradox and the proof that even if life is out to get you, the universe may still like you. Or maybe it's the other way around.
Either way, life put Jason into an incredibly sticky situation, and the universe sent an angel to save him. That the angel decided to kill his would-be assaulter and then stalk him for months on end by leaving bags of food everywhere he decided to sleep is an entirely different problem. Maybe.

(minor rape warning is one scene near the start where someone attempts to assault jason when he's 12, but it's swiftly dealt with by the talon.)
