A/N: bestie, I am literally ot7 and ot13 - I would love to say all of them! Also, thank you lol ily & Iโm so happy you enjoy my works!! I had fun trying to make this creative but true to how I see them in my head lol so I hope it entertains yโall like it does for me!
He says it when he hands you a candy ring during recess in the third grade. You're eight, and you think you know what love is, but also the only things you know you love are art class and sitting next to him during lunch.
You are offered the candy ring with the utmost seriousness an eight-year-old could muster, and you can't help but giggle and blush, your heart racing from running around on the playground for the last twenty minutes with him. You accept it, and it's eaten by the time school is out.
And by the weekend, you've forgotten the vow the young boy gave you, but he hasn't.
Fast forward to when you are four years post-grad, you have not only forgotten the vow said on a sunny afternoon, but also the pretty boy who held your hand during class without fail. It wasn't your fault that you had moved in your fourth year, so it's not even on your mind as you gather with your friends for your 26th birthday that your past would come back to haunt you.
Well, not until he shows up unannounced. He's grown from being that third-grader, both tall and big now, and handsome too. He captures everyone's eyes as he saunters up with an easy smile that he directs only to you. When he leans in, his eyes are sparkling, and you know your tummy isn't the only thing flipping upside down; your life is about to as well.
"Hey, birthday girl, I'm a little early, but I'm not waiting till we're forty. You were always mine, even before I gave you that candy ring."

He has to be having a stroke when he suggests it. Or the summer air has finally gotten to his head. The air conditioning had gone out in his dorm room, and instead of lounging in the library or an Internet cafe, heโs found himself at your doorstep.
And now, both of you are sprawled out on the laminate tile floor your college chose for your room. The ceiling fan spins round and round, blowing a soft breeze on top of you, and you are trying to figure out if you have enough energy to walk across campus for ice cream when he suggests it.
This heat wave is no joke, and you are convinced heโs having a heat stroke, not taking him seriously at all. โFuck, what are the symptoms of heat stroke again?โ You gasp, and he rolls his eyes, a smile forming on his face as he nudges his sock-covered toe into your knee.
โHey, Iโm a catch.โ He muses, and you huff, sitting up on your elbows to give him a look.
โYeah, you saying that definitely convinces me.โ And you both share a look before busting out in laughter that makes you almost forget about the ice cream thatโs calling your name in the mess hall.
โNo, but seriously. Letโs just marry if we are both single by then. What do you say?โ
You mumble, moving further up until your foot knocks into his foot again before you are fully standing. โIโll marry you the moment we graduate if you buy me ice cream right now.โ
You say it jokingly, but heโs grabbing your hand, pulling you from your room like a man on a mission. โWant toppings on your ice cream, too? Fuck, letโs just buy everything.โ

Heโs a little drunk when he says it, but he has to be a little drunk to be here.
Somehow, he finds himself at a ten year anniversary for his high school graduation, and it seemed like you two were the only ones who hadnโt immediately married or popped out babies the moment the diploma was secured in your hands.
You didnโt know him personally during your high school days, but you knew of him, and you always knew he would make a name for himself. And he did, heโd become wildly successful in less than ten years, and it was because he was like you: focused, ambitious, and hard working.
I mean, itโs how you found yourself nearing thirty and not married, which you were fine with, but you didnโt really know his excuse. Either way, it was clear your former classmates didnโt approve of it.
Both of you had gone through a few hours of explaining what both of you did as a job now, and the minute on of you confirmed you didnโt have kids or a spouse, suddenly the accomplishments you guys had earned seemed to not shine as bright in your former classmateโs eyes.
It was a little ridiculous, truly. But even you were a little surprised he hadnโt settled down yet, because even though you hadnโt been close to him in your teens, it didnโt mean you hadnโt thought he was attractive or had a little crush on him back in the day. Everyone in school loved him, and anyone would be lucky to have him in your opinion.
But what you didnโt know, was that he had felt the same about you.
The only reason he is at this function is in the hopes heโd see you again. As a busy and successful man, he didnโt have time to try and find you online and reach out, so he thought this would be his best opportunity to throw himself out there. Itโs crazy, and a little unconventional, but if it means he can show you heโs the man for you, heโll tell you the pact like itโs a joke.
But he definitely plans to make it true. Hopefully, before either of you is forty- and heโs pretty confident because he always gets everything he wants, and youโve always been what he's wanted most.
