I’ve been in Nicola’s fandom long enough to recognise when certain discussions are being put forth as innocent and harmless when they’re not. All I’ll say is, I’m happy to see Nicola in this show, I’m happy to see Simone in this show and I don’t give a damn which one of them has more screen time than the other. I also think it’s incredibly joyless that, no matter the fandom, casting announcements are met with this kind of emotionless dissection. People forget that acting is art.

Why are some people acting like Nicola has a problematic fandom right when we get casting news? Sounds like an excuse to create discourse out of nothing to me when I've seen nothing but happy Nicola fans. I think what we've seen is that Nicola does not need a loud fandom, she has impact and reach by herself. She's fine and she'll be fine because she's well respected and talented. Nicola fan spaces might have dwindled because many cannot be bothered to associate with other toxic fandoms, but the number of Nicola fans might not necessarily have decreased. She still has over 6 million followers on ig, let's not forget that.

Honestly, the fact Nicola had/has 7 different projects this year: Five have been out already (Bton4, TPOTWW, BM2, TFMT, Goal) and Two more to come (IAH and OMITB) is HUGE and a dream come true for every working actor. She’s been working so much and she deserves every bit of success. And I know we won’t finish this year without another casting new under her bell.

thank you for not dismissing my opinion, let me explain a little better. all parts of the fandom have good and toxic accounts and i am not saying only the nicola fandom suffers from that but this is the part of the fandom that affects me and i dont like that anytime some of us try to bring up this topic people react defensively, calling out my own fandom is the way for me to keep a healthy space, today we had very good news for nicola but it became a discourse and we can pretend that all the others are always the bad guys but we all know it was an account within us that started it, we cant keep ignoring the root cause of the problem is always those accounts using nics news to start discourse with other people, the nicola coughlan style account was collateral damage in a fight that once again was started by that group of fans, every nic moment is turned into something for them to use in their personal fights and we get stuck in the middle and dont forget some of them have bad reputation to be associated with hate and racism to simone and attacks to other people of the bridgerton cast, when i mention accounts that left because of that i am talking about accounts that i know and have spoken with and i think the fact that people inside our own fandom are creating situations that make other nicola fans leave is something that we should pay attention to instead of only paying attention to external factors, the admin of the nicola subreddit is problematic, she announced she was made admin and later used that same account for fandom fights and interacting with some problematic profiles that we should not want to be associated to us, and you know the other group of accounts that i am referring to, i know nicola is liked outside fandom spaces and that is great but as an online community to support her the nicola fandom is not getting bigger but decreasing and i dont think creating a space where we have to isolate to be able to enjoy it is the solution

A lot of people like Nicola. Look at the reaction to her casting on OMITB. There are posts from Doctor Who fans, Selena fans, and just regular people who like Nicola and/or like the show.

Let's not act like some Nicola fans weren't also chased off because their accounts were literally reported by haters. The Nicola style account is one, and I recall a few others that had their ig accounts removed. A few tiktok accounts too. I think it's safe to say that not all of Nicola's fanbase is online. Or not many act like rabid fans online, many come online just to like her posts and such. There's also a very large toxic fanbase which claims to be fans of Nicola and her costar and acts holier than thou, proclaiming Nicola fans as Nic solos because apparently we're all supposed to be part of some group project. Some of us do not care for costars and are branded as toxic by the very ones who are toxic themselves, so many choose to leave those spaces. And I think that's fine. Being loud doesn't mean much when it's the same 20 people.

I truly think the key to any good fandom experience is to follow those people who post the content you're interested in and be free and very easy with the block and mute functions outside of that. It's worked wonders for me because I don't see any of the fandom drama at all (I'm pretty much only aware of it if someone I follow posts about it) and when it comes to Nicola in particular, my timeline is just posts loving and celebrating her. I block and mute any account that talks shit about her, however indirectly (a lot of people who claim to be her fans still have no problem shitting all over her personal life, for instance) and if I see posts like that, it's an automatic block/mute. I don't bother engaging with them at all, because they're not worth the time. Engage with and uplift the accounts that are truly here for her and shut the rest out. They can yell as loudly as they want on their own accounts but if you don't see them, follow them or engage with them, then all they're really doing is blowing a lot of hot air with absolutely no result.

The person who manages the Nicola subreddit isn’t involved in any other discourse that I am aware of. I think people make things up to fit their own narrative. The Nicola sub isn’t huge but it’s a positive space as far as I have seen that focuses on all of Nicola’s projects. I think anon is just trying to create a fandom war.

I have no idea what that anon complaining about the Nicola fandom is talking about. They’re right that some Nic fans have left Tumblr - probably because it’s so toxic here - but the Nic community on Twitter and Instagram is thriving and filled with fans who support Nicola and her many projects. Not engaging in beef, not shipping, not focused on just one role. Fans of Nicola who like her and like each other too.

when i say the nicola fandom i mean the fandom spaces not the locals or casual fans or the bridgerton fans, the fandom as a space to make community with other fans to support her is dying and i say it because we have lost many good accounts that have left because of the way things are happening, a loud toxic group of stans have taken over, the nicola reddit is not that popular because of one person who manages it, the fandom activities are not as supported and more and more people are becoming the type of fans that prefer to be outside of fandom spaces because they dont like how that group of fans moves, good if you have the ability to stay out of all that but many of us just want a peaceful space where we can be fans and support her without the discourse and toxicity that some people bring

OMITB is a good show to kind of do something new, create a relationship with a new network and keep it moving - it has a really good cast but it also does not take months either. I’m pretty sure they’ve been filming in London for a bit and it’s going to be fun to see Nic doing something new.
