system nicky hcs / thoughts because it's such a fun hc and I want to write something so bad I just never have time to write everything I want to
The three Acknowledged parts are Nicholas Foster, Nick Close, and Nicky Freeman-Close-Foster (nicky internally refers to himself / identifies with the hyphenated name even though he only tells people he goes by freeman. Largely because a big part of nickys identity is being a strange mix of both nick and nicholas)
at first only Nicholas rly fronts around the other kiddads, and Nick fronts way more with Glenn . Nick is really unsure how to interact with the other kiddads bc to him their whole relationships have entirely shifted / disappeared
tends to be pretty switchy when around glenn and jodie both as well as when he's around Morgan due to her death in one timeline & the weird contradicting feelings
nicholas doesn't treat nick as real and doesn't really understand where the Weird Feelings r coming from, so nick gets mad and tries to shove him down to front more, even around kiddads and stuff. Then nick is confused bc the other kiddads have different memories to him
Nick knows about nicholas & that logically he's lived a different life but only has access to his memories and not nicholas' up until the moment with the aboleths. He has spotty memory of nicholas' newer memories and generally knows when nicholas is fronting because they end up arguing. Sometimes he doesn't have memory of something bc nicholas showed him in a box deep in the brain
Nicky" is his brain actually settling between the two timelines and trying to cope. Forms someone totally separate from nick and nicholas who functions kinda like a "caretaker" for them (first starts with settling their arguments, helping nicholas stay calm between switches, etc as well as just doing basic tasks for them. like cooking for nick bc he sucks at eating normal food and nicholas will yell at him for having Another microwave meal)
Nick and nicholas don't know who Nicky is . They lose those memories or they become fuzzy, and when he's talking to either one while they have more control they view him as annoying and nonsensical.
this said I think Nicky is almost always influenced by nick and nicholas talking to him even tho they don't know who he is when they're fronting.
Honestly I view "nicky" as kind of a combination of like .. a couple people . Especially as he gets his own relationships and has more of an identity outside of "looking after" nick/nicholas.
Nicky doesn't know this though bc he doesnt really acknowledge that there might be more than just Nick and Nicholas (even though he has his own identity) . Like he barely recognizes his own identity let alone possibly being multiple outside of them.
Eventually nicky ends up being the "main fronter" because he finds it "simpler" and gets frustrated settling arguments. He just becomes very accustomed to tuning out arguing voices in his head (and ignoring that there seem to be a lot more than Just Nick and Nicholas giving opinions) but honestly I believe Nicky is innately very switchy
