HATASPONT TANODA

in this post I will summarize the las couple months. 

Since the outbeak of Covid-19, a lot of things have changed considering our voluntary service. Us volunteers had to adapt to ‘home-office’ because the Tanoda had to close temporarily. Being in a small room with so many people would have put our health at risk. We started by filming and uploading short videos about or daily life, for example what we eat for breakfast and how to prepare it. On a regular basis we had mentoring sessions with our students via skype. Throughout the weeks, four of the five volunteers had to leave due to the situation. They went back to their home countries to be with their families. me, the german volunteer stayed and continued the work with the students, as well as working with the ‘Here we are’ group - a group of lovely, motivated people with disabilities, who were eager to use the spare time at home to improve their english. We had weekly sessions where we practiced talking, asking questions and processing information, which worked really good! It was a very good way to use the freetime I had in an efective way. 

A couple weeks ago, in the beginning of June, schools were allowed to open again, under certain circumstances and srict rules. I was really happy to be able to go back to work again, and to see all my students being healthy. 

I held short workshops about different topics, such as reflecting on the time during self isolation and corona, but also about topics such as the #BlackLivesMatter movement or the HongKong Protests. I try to raise awareness about important topics as these beneath the students, and they seem to be inerested in learning more. 

Other than that we had a barbecue party in the forest, to not only celebrate being able to go outside again, but also to say goodbye, since this is my last week in Hungary. Next Friday I, the last volunteer will go back to my homecountry as well. I am happy that I was able to use the last couple of weeks I had before my project ends, to explore the country a little bit more, and meet my students and friends before I leave. 

It was an amazing experience I will always remember!

During the month february we were super creative! Crafting friendship bracelets, turning old boring cans into colorful pen holders... we even made our own XXL version of the game ‚snakes and leathers‘

Besides that, we cooked our favorite tanoda food : Spaghetti Carbonara 🤤

The kids from the 3rd class came to visit us in the afterschool and we played some games that require a lot of concentration!

And we visited an elementary school in Gyöngyös, where we hd some amazing lessons with the students.

Hello everyone! This post is about what happened in january.

January was a cold month, and we had snow in gyöngyös!

So we spent most of the time inside, playing games, crafting, drawing and more!

We got really creative and invented games, as you can see here

Other than that, we improved our language skills and learned some german and hungarian vocabulary about body parts!

We attended “Hétszínvirág Napközi Otthon” event. People who have difficulties had become musicians. Seeing them were so meaningful.

We had started Christmas preparations. We had a chance to see how is Christmas in Hungary. It was interesting because in Turkey we don’t have Christmas. We created gifts with children for families while been listening Christmas songs.

We did Self-Esteem Development workshops. We have discovered our friendship goals.

We did team building workshops. We have learnt how things should be in a team. And also we used our creativity.

Preparing biscuits with children for the homeless people was very funny. Team work and solidarity have never been that sweet!!!

In this month we were super creative in Tanoda! We learned how to braid pretty hair strains with coloured wool and pearls into our hair. Also, since halloween was close, we prepared decoration for our halloween party, where we carved pumpkins!

And one of the Highlights in october: Us volunteers and some of the students were part of a trash collecting project in the Duranda. In some places of Gyöngyös, people are not aware about separating trash and taking care of their environment. We gathered together and helped to clean up the neighborhood. We even got interviewed by GyöngyösTV!

This post is all about the month october! (part 1)

October was a really interesting month, many things happened. It started with an event in the Matra Museum, where we had an info table about the Tanoda. We prepared some creative activities to give people an idea of what we are doing in the afterschool. There were also some guys with salamanders and other animals, and we were allowed to pet them!!

In the next week we had our on- arrival training!

What is the On-Arrival training? It’s a seminar organized by the national agancy, where all the volunteers from europe who are absolving their evs in hungary get together and spend 5 days together, doing workshops, exchanging experience and so on. It’s a lot of fun and we made really good friends there!

After that, One of our volunteers had her birthday, and her sister came to visit her in Budapest! They did a lot of sightseeing and the other day they even hiked to Kékestetö - the highest mountain of Hungary! The view up there is amazing! And the food you can get up there is delicious! Typical hungarian Langós and palatcsinta!!! YUMMY!

Hello everyone! This post is about the month september! After being in Hungary for a couple weeks we settled in, found our favourite cafe in town and enjoyed the sunny days. At work we held many workshops about our homecountries and mothertongues, such as creating a poster with essential basic words in english, italian, turkish, french, german and we even learned them in hungarian! Back then, the only vocabulary we knew has been ‘Jo napot’ which means ‘have a nice day’ and ‘Köszönöm’ which means ‘Thank you’

Other than language workshops, we performed cooking classes, games and teambuilding exercises. We quickly built up a good relationship with most of the students and the Tanoda became our 2nd home!

Today, we are sharing photos from in August :) ! We did lots of activities in August such as hiking, barbecue party, intercultural days, playing games. In addition, maybe the most important thing was the activities to get to know each other.  

All activities helped us to feel comfortable. As everybody can imagine, to stay in a country which you don’t know and stay before can be difficult. But if the place where you are in gives positive energy and confidence, everything will be easy for you. 

Hello From Hataspont Tanoda!

Today, we talked about how should we protect ourselves against to Coronavirus. According to WHO;

‘Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a new strain that was discovered in 2019 and has not been previously identified in humans. 

Coronaviruses are zoonotic, meaning they are transmitted between animals and people.  Detailed investigations found that SARS-CoV was transmitted from civet cats to humans and MERS-CoV from dromedary camels to humans. Several known coronaviruses are circulating in animals that have not yet infected humans.

Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death.

Standard recommendations to prevent infection spread include regular hand washing, covering mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, thoroughly cooking meat and eggs. Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing.’

Yesterday, we were in Egressy Béni Két Tanítási Nyelvű Általános School. The topic was children rights. The main aim for this activity was to improve awareness of own rights of children. We started with energizer. After that we watched short movie about children rights and we made posters about rights of education, security and family!

What are the main topics in Convention on the Rights of the Child?

Acording to  Convention on the Rights of the Child,

Children's rights includes their right to association with both parents, human identity as well as the basic needs for physical protection, food, universal state-paid education, health care, and criminal laws appropriate for the age and development of the child, equal protection of the child's civil rights, and freedom from discrimination on the basis of the child's race, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, religion, disability, color, ethnicity, or other characteristics.

‘How are you?’ This question is one of the most important things in HatasPont Tanoda. Before all workshops, we make a circle and sit at an equal distance and we choose a picture that reflects our feelings at that moment. All participants share own feelings. This part is always the first step for workshops. Thanks to this part, there occurs a good dynamic for activities. And also, to ask the own feelings to people is always to give a message that feelings of person who is across you are important.
