Yes, pollution is caused primarily by companies, national coal, the pentagon, ect. but small scale community clean up efforts are still good! cleaning your local park wont save the ozone but it will make life better for the neighborhood kids and wildlife! world problems arent a zero sum game. Small improvements are still improvements that make things better and I dont see how deriding them is positive in any context. You can agree there needs to be more large scale efforts without saying small scale efforts are useless and dont matter.
Oh, I get it. You mean like when someone drinks too much, or snorts cocaine, or bets the house on the ponies? Or like when someone smokes too many cigarettes? Or like when someone shops too much with credit cards? Or like when someone plays too many scratchy lotteries? Or like when someone eats too much chocolate cake? Or like when someone eats too much chocolate cake and then barfs it up? Executive Producer: Dick Wolf.

THANK FUCKING GOD
Ok I saw a rb of this with some context and I only remember like half of it so Iâm also using Google I may get some of this wrong
But apparently the âfirst errandâ thing isnât just a cute little fact about the little kid, itâs a totally real thing done in Japan to teach kids that they can like rely on the community to offer assistance if they need it. They send their kids (like 2-3 years old) out alone to perform a relatively simple errand like going to a convenience store and buying a carton of milk. (Thereâs even a tv show where a camera crew follows children as they accomplish this first errand.) Itâs not uncommon to see kids as young as 6-7 riding the subway alone because theyâve gained this sense of independence that comes from knowing that there will be people to help out if they need it.
Oh my god thatâs even better

man the crazy thing about babies is that like, some people would think that reading a baby a book about farm animals is teaching them about farm animals, but really itâs teaching them about the concept of a book and how thereâs new information on each page of a single object, but really, beyond that, itâs teaching them how language works, and beyond that itâs really actually teaching them about human interaction, and really really itâs them learning about existing in a three-dimensional space and how they can navigate that space, but actually, above all it is teaching them that mama loves them.

OK, just stop.
Iâll lay odds that a fair number of the people who decided to mock and pillory her âyou can only have 30 booksâ idea (myself included) had no idea who she was, what nationality she was, or even what she looked like. Her name isnât particularly obviously Asian, and itâs not like the various articles of comment specified her ethnicity in the headline, which letâs be honest, is all any of us read before w started crafting our comedy.
All I knew was there was another tidiness guru trying to tell us to simplify.
And Henry David Thoreau notwithstanding, the whole modern minimalist movement is aimed at the wealthy. Theyâre the ones who make claims like âYou donât need to have all these plates, just keep a few, and if youâre having a big party, buy moreâ. It all centers on the idea of youâre rich enough not to have to hang on to all this stuff till you need it, you can just buy more. Â
Well,no, sorry, that ainât the case. And so us poor and middle class people hang on to that half a bottle of antibiotics we didnât finish, cause they cost money, and maybe the next time we get sick we can take those and save the cost of going to the doctor.
And we keep all those books and DVDs because, again, they cost money, and maybe we wonât watch that movie again for a couple years, but we donât have the money (or the interest to spend the money we have) to throw it out and buy it again when we want to have it, just so we can have room on our shelves for one more Longaberger basket filled with potpourri.
So put your faux offense away, stop trying to get us to apologize for things that werenât even under consideration, and let us have our rage about one more person who telling us to get rid of our stuff.
Sheâs not out Mom, and neither are you.
You just admitted that you have no idea what her philosphy is.
First of all, she never said âyou can only have 30 books.â She said that if having BOOKSHELVES UPON BOOKSHELVES of books sparks joy, leave it be. HER PERSONAL bookshelf has 30 books.
Secondly, Marie Kondoâs advice has NEVER been about getting rid of plates and dvds for the sake of having less. Plates have use. They spark joy by being there when you need them. A DVD or a book sparks joy for a poor person because itâs there, and you donât have to spend any more money than you already did for a little R&R. Antibiotics, under her philosphy, would spark joy for you the same way as plates: by being there when you need them (even though your stance on antibiotics is medically unsafe and dangerous for both you and those you meet AT BEST).
You obviously donât know shit about Marie Kondo because if you did, you would know that she literally isnât anything you described. Her method is tailored to the person sheâs helping. If you can find any reason an object is useful to you, including âit makes me feel secure to know its thereâ or âi cant afford another one so i need this oneâ you keep it. The fact that you hate her so much is a product of you buying into the media shitstorm that has surrounded her and distorted her message.
Kondo isnât trying to tell poor people to eat off of one fucking plate and own one plant and thats it. Sheâs helping hoarders and people who feel guilty about getting rid of things. Sheâs helping people get rid of gifts they never used, shirts they never wore, and above all she is helping people who WANT to declutter. For fuckâs sake, sheâs not holding a gun to your head and telling you to keep a single spaghetti noodle in your pantry.
All youâre âragingâ at is a woman who genuinely wants people to feel less overwhelmed in their life and to develop healthy levels of attachment and inattachment. If you donât feel overwhelmed or want to declutter, sheâs not asking you to. The media is twisting her words so heavily as an act of racism, and decrying her cultural reasons behind her philsophy as âasian woo wooâ. By mindlessly buying into her recharacterization as a stupid western minimalist, youâre buying into everything else as well.
Sheâs not your Mom? Then ignore her. She has 0 relevance to you. Stop contributing to the mob hatred of a woman whoâs done literally nothing to deserve it besides say âHey, if you want me to help you, I will.â
So, in conclusion
Disregarding Marie Kondo in this whole articleÂ

Would Charles Dickens be delighted or horrified by the Muppet Christmas Carol?
Iâve said this before but even with the talking vegetables and the additional Marley, itâs an incredibly faithful adaptation
Of course Charles Dickens liked the Muppet version. He narrated it.
Iâm dying
I think he might have been a bit pissed at them leaving out Ignorance and Want (which I think is the only flaw in what is otherwise my favourite adaptation) btu would have laughed his arse off at the rest.
Not to get controversial or anything but can we stop with making fun of women being abused by their husbands and playing it off as âstraight cultureâ
I lost 10 followers for saying we shouldnt make fun of domestic abuse victims.
can we also please stop making fun of men being abused by their wives thanks
Good addition
Can we also stop acting that domestic abuse is just a âstraightâ thing?
Itâs literally teaching our baby gays that any same sex relationship their going into is safe and they donât need to be worried about being abused and controlled.
Another good addition
