Some are soft, others hard; some are only covered with a slight membrane, whilst others have a shell or firm crust, like parchment.

Every bug make different eggs, with different shapes and textures. Maybe we're all right, or we're all wrong. What is a Kwama anyway? I really know nothing about bugs.

I like your theory, that they have a very thin paper-like outer shell. But what if it's more than one layer?

I was thinking, what if it's like a cocoon, with multiple paper thin layers. The layers would naturally peel off, and form like a weird nest thing we see in game, with those blood vein like thingy.

Kwama miners need to peel the outer layers off and clean the egg to sell. The remain inner shell is probably more soft, like thin, leathery texture. And it is beautiful and colorful. The clean eggs remind me of opal.
