small excerpt from a recent draft “strangers”
— dreamfxyre ⋆✴︎˚。⋆
Will our bond survive all four seasons,
The scorch, spring, rain and the deathly freezing?
I can't help but wonder, if it'll still hold meaning—
To both of us, when the time begins leaping.
Will you find it a summer fever dream,
That you once held high in esteem?
Or will you hold my heart, unwilling to let go,
Having reaped the love that we once sowed?
Then in the end, only time will show,
If our tree endures, never ceasing to grow.

i was labeled as soon as i could speak. marked. i wasn’t supposed to be upset by it- they thought i was special. they put me up on a pedestal. i was supposed to be grateful. but i hated it. i was desperate to clamor down but they kept putting me back atop the pedestal. called me lucky, talented, an old soul.
but how could i explain it- the torment and the loneliness. how can you explain hating what everyone craves, wouldn’t it just be ungrateful? but there’s something so horrific about being treated as a precious gem, when you are just an eight year old kid. you’re nothing special- just marked.
i forced myself to forget how lonely it is, that is, of course, until i met her. until i escaped the loneliness by talking to the other children who have been marked- special. old soul. wise beyond their years.
trapped on a pedestal until we were all sick.

Gazing out over the field before her, she saw for the first time the true scale of the battle ahead. Thousands of soldiers stood before her, expecting an easy fight against lesser creatures. And in the futures branching out before her, there was only one path to peace. "Are you sure we can't talk this out?" she asked. There was a tinge of desperation to her voice, she could tell, but there was no point in hiding it.
"Hah! A mighty dragon begging for mercy? It seems our fight is with a mere lizard!" Cheers of laughter spread through the crowd. "Listen, lizard," the man spat, "You will die here today, and there's nothing you can say to get out of it. Surrender your head, and I might spare the vermin cowering behind you." He seemed oddly proud of himself; if only he knew the truth.
Taking a deep breath, Nebula did her best to consider alternatives; it didn't take long for her to conclude there weren't any. She released her breath in a long, disappointed sigh, steeling her resolve for the battle to come. "I have offered you and yours nothing but kindness and mercy, and yet you continue to spit on it. The last thing I want is to be remembered as a tyrant, and so I shall give you one last chance: Turn back now. Take your army and leave my kingdom. Do this, and I swear we shall not pursue you."
The man sneered, seemingly amused. "And what if I don't?"
Nebula looked him dead in the eyes, staring right through into his soul. A flash of blood flickered across her mind, for the first time allowed to complete without being pushed down by her own fears. There was nothing now that she could do to save them. All she could do was give them one, final warning.
"Do not come crying when you learn that you've mistaken our patience for weakness."
