my unwoke thought. i dont think all genderbent characters should look exactly the same as their original. it takes a certain wisdom to know when their femininity or masculinity is key to their character regardless of gender, or when the behaviors/traits tied to their gender (or the opposite gender) being important to them is actually is what's at play here. though i do think more people should make genderbent characters look exactly the same if it means there's more muscular women. end post
Late for an appointment this morning because my beautiful son child stole a wrapped and bagged bologna sandwich containing roughly 300% his maximum safe sodium intake out of the lunch box in my backpack while I was on the shitter and refused to spit it out
β¬οΈ Documented evidence of my sweet and perfect and beautiful firstborn son furiously defending his hard-won right to shit his brains out
no leaves, but plenty of eyes.
inspired by me spacing out on a long drive & staring at trees. this happened earlier this year, and birches ended up growing leaves before i finished the doll.
all branches & roots are made of metal wire + hot glue, which makes them poseable and also keeps them from snapping.

Fabulous and inspiring, thank you so much!
if you see me liking contradicting headcanons for the same character just know it's because I do not give a fuck and I have an active imagination #hewouldsaythat
sometimes itβs not about βwould he say that or do thatβ itβs more like that would be hilarious if he did because I have a jesterβs heart
I won't publish the ask (they asked me not to), but I thought I'd still answer it publicly!
no, royalties are not a significant source of income for most authors. if you wrote something like Project Hail Mary, then absolutely, the royalties would be substantial! but that's like winning the lottery. Ryan Gosling is not starring in the movie adaption of most books.
when you sell a book to a publisher, you get what's called 'an advance against royalties'. it's usually split into multiple parts, so you might get one third for the initial sale, one third for the final revised manuscript, and one third on the publishing date.
an advance against royalties is the publisher saying "we believe you will eventually make X amount in royalties, so here it is ahead of time." and then you don't actually see any money from royalties until the advance is paid off. most books do not make enough in royalties to pay off the advance (I have two children's books and one fiction book, and have yet to see royalties for any of them).
advances are still great, but you need to make them stretch! for instance, last year my net income was about 30k Canadian (21k USD), which is fantastic when you consider that I mostly made it through writing. but I'm definitely not a millionaire. I can live off my writing (not trying to undersell that!) but I'll probably remain in a low income bracket for the foreseeable future.
this isn't meant to discourage anyone from seeking out writing as a career! however, there is a reason that many authors have alternate jobs with writing on the side. or, you know, rich spouses.
this isn't me making a fuss about pirating (I've pirated way too many shows to run my mouth on that lmao), but there IS actually a financial incentive to having people buy your books!
buying books shows the publisher that they can make money off you, which means they're more likely to give you advances for future books. and advances are what authors live off (if they don't have a side job). that's why I always push pre-orders so hard! you have to be a racehorse worth betting on, or else they send you to the glue factory....
if I can offer one alternative to pirating: asking your library to stock the book also helps authors, and doesn't cost anything. the only downside is the patience required.
OOPS yes, @stjohnstarling makes a good point! everything I'm saying is from the perspective of traditional publishing, but it's a very different game if you're a self-published author

the funny thing about this is that both people born in the 2000s are reblogging this freaking out because they arent ready to be adults and people who were born before the 2000s are freaking out about how they feel old and that it cant be happening because all people born in the 2000s are like 4

Beep boop! I look for accidental haiku posts. Sometimes I mess up.
how it genuinely feels
The thing is, in order to have a healthy and robust fandom, a piece of media NEEDS to leave some questions unanswered. Some relations unshipped. Some plot holes unfilled. Some backstories unwritten. Some lore unexplained. You need possibilities that will keep people up at night. The beautiful thing about an empty lot in a neighborhood is what people make in it

I'm going to spend a long time thinking about this one.
The frog guy, we need to tag the frog guy. I want to know which of these frogs is the FRIENDLIEST.
@markscherz we request your expertise. Please tell us about these allegedly hateful frogs.
I've been tagged in this a whole lot now. I have reservations about dignifying it with an answer at all, because the art/advert is so clearly AI generated. However, as this post brings no traffic to the actual source itself, I feel like it's okay to at least identify what we're looking at. And I think almost all of these can be identified:
January - Agalychnis callidryas. Of course. AI loves popular animals, and perhaps no frog is as iconic as the red-eyed treefrog. February - Trachycephalus resinifictrix March - probably supposed to be Dendrobates auratus, but honestly looks more like a Ranitomeya April - I think this is supposed to be Odorrana? It certainly looks like it. May - any of the many green frogs in the family Ranidae. May be Aquarana or Pelophylax, but could also be many others. June - Maybe Litoria caerulea? but not chubby enough July - I think the AI was trying to represent a Pelobatrachus nasutus, but had arbitrarily decided it wanted only green frogs and accidentally landed on something like Gastrotheca guentheri? August - Some hylid frog, almost certainly based on either Dryophytes or Hyla September - Any of a number of green toads, possibly genus Bufotes October - Ceratophrys cranwelli or C. ornata November - No idea. Could be any number of species. But given that when you ask ChatGPT for a list of ten random frogs, it almost always includes Pyxicephalus adspersus, I guess this could be a young individual of that species. December - A glass frog, family Centrolenidae. AI is *obsessed* with Hyalinobatrachium, so it's probably a member of that genus.
As for which one is the friendliest, I have no idea, but I think it is fairly clearly the Ceratophrys that is the least friendly/most likely to actually try to hurt you.
π Thank you! Yes, this is a REALLY weird and extremely AI ad. I don't even know what it went to because I didn't click through. Its meaning must remain a mystery. Or perhaps the meaninglessness makes it haunting.
There was no doubt in my heart that Mister October, the Ceratophrys, would be the problem child. But truly, frogs don't owe anyone anything, and I love them all equally. They are perfect.
Sorry you were one million tagged, sir. Thank you for all you do.
"RPF is soooo hard to explain it's sooooo weird it's bad and wrong'" it's fine. it used to be if you were a sex symbol people would just whack off to a picture of you or maybe write a dirty fantasy letter about you for a book or magazine, and now everything is all alienated and sublimated and abstracted and so a major way of Being a sex symbol is people imagine you, making out with another sex symbol, with tongue, and the dreamer happily uninvolved. fantasies are part of sexuality. it gets more elaborate because people crave tension & resolution and i mean lots of erotic material is also complex & always has been. it's the age of the voyeur baby it's fine. run that one again but they're up against the racecar and with more tongue. nice.
