“… relax, s’not going to kill me,” Barty confirmed. He took another gulp of the bitter alcohol, cringing at the taste. It would definitely take a few more sips before he began to enjoy the drink. Not that he minded; not at all. 

“Ze vay you cringe make me t’ink it vill. Have you never had a drink before?” Mira asked curiously. She’d been allowed alcohol for so long, she began to forget what was normal. She didn’t always understand how others tolerances worked. “It vorks better if you don’t let it hit your tongue.”

“Ugh, my entire body feels like it’s going to implode.”

“Zen you should probably let it and put us all out of our misery.”

“Because hunting is how I clear my head. It’s also how many people eat.” Skadi froze in her tracks and lifted her bow, drawing it back to her chin. Her voice dropped significantly. “And most importantly to prove ourselves.”

Skadi is the Viking Goddess of winter. Her name is said to mean shadow or shade. She is the Queen of the shades.

She was just as bad as the rest of them, that, at the very least had been proven to him today. He’d been raised to expect such behavior from her, knew that one day – if he was unlucky enough – he would undoubtedly be privy to it. The downfall of such wizards, after all, was their inability to keep such magic secret. Body tense as Vladmira stood to face him, Aleks squeezed his fists tight as she spoke, urging himself to calm down before getting too heated.

Seraphine started with taking her own step forward. “I beg you to tell me ‘ow causing fights will ‘elp ze situation. I would raser take any sense of security zan to live, arguing and becoming suspeecious of evary one.” As the blonde observed her, she seized her up as well. The gruff girl was hardened by something, almost like her, but not totally. Seraphine hadn’t congealed in the same way that the girl did. While the other girl was what she would describe as hostile, she grew colder. “Tell me what is ‘appening zen. Un studant is missing and you’re starting a ruckus.”

“Do I need to be suspicious of you little girl?” Vladimira stood even straighter than before. It was no surprise that the Grindelwald could be for more intimidating than most teenaged girls, and that was certainly saying something. “A ruckus needs to be started. Ve all need to be aware of vhat is happening around us. If you know not’ing of ze mudblood murders zat happen in zis country, zen you are not only ignorant, but self-centered as vell.”

Her necklace? What on earth was the point of asking her that question? Truthfully, though, Petra was passed asking questions. If Mira had her mind set on something, it was set, and you could no nothing to change that. “Ja,” she nodded, “in se chest. Vy? I am assuming you need it for… zis brilliant idea of yours.” 

“I vouldn’t say it vas brilliant, but I do tend to undervalue my skills.” Mira smiled, a rare, but rather radiant occasion for the lovely blonde. There was finally a bit of hope left in her for the poor missing girl. “I didn’t tell you before, because I vas hoping you vould figure it out, but zat necklace has some very interesting properties. I need to borrow it for a night.”

“Eet is only somesing to become accustomed to. You must admit,” Aphrodite’s frown remained as she looked over the Durmstrang girl. “Eet wastes more time zen anysing.”

“Ze students or ze stairs?” She asked, the girl’s accent was painful to understand. “Either vay, it’s completely idiotic.”

“Good thing this tournament happens to be rather convenient in regards to meeting new people,” Barty mused. Most of his friends had been foreign at this point, and he wasn’t too sure whether or not that should have been a point of concern. “… connard,” he repeated, trying to mimic her pronunciation, “I’ll keep the word in mind. They do seem like the type to gossip behind a person’s back however, a bit two faced.” 

“I t’ink zat is ze point of ze tournament period, no? I doubt ve vould all be here if it vere just for silly competition.” Vladimira mused. She knew what was happening with all those in power trying to calm a situation that they had let burn out of control for far too long. “Everyone is two-faced. I am not surprised by it anymore, but it is handy to know vhat zey t’ink about you vith either mask.”

“Even wise man have their moments of stupidity, or in this case, a fucking lapse of judgement. That professor is a lunatic,” Barty complained, growing more angry by merely thinking about the class. Although, his mood quickly changed upon hearing her insult. It wasn’t the insult that caught his attention ( of course not, he’s heard far worse coming from the mouth of his own father ) but rather her accent in regards to cursing in English. Frankly, and strangely, it had been amusing. “.. your honesty is refreshing,” Barty noted, “and you’ve already learned crude words in English. Not even my beauxbaton friend has taught me insults in French – bet they think it’s too classy or something. Although, if you ask me, it’s better to know the bad words before the good ones, that way people won’t take a verbal jab at you.” 

“If you are refreshed by ze truth, zen you obviously need new acquaintances.” The boy seemed far too enthused to be insulted in Mira’s opinion, but he wouldn’t be the first person she’d met to get off on feeling degraded. That, of course, was none of her business. “I can be crude in French too, connard.” She spouted the language gruffly. French was not a language that rolled easily off the tongue for a Russian girl. “I just prefer to know vat everyone is saying. Zey rarely hold zeir tongue vhen zey t’ink no one can understand.”

“Not arrogance – frustration. Do you have any idea what divination class is like? I’ve been told the future is rather grim, followed by other ridiculous hysterics,” Barty said, defending himself. Granted, if she wanted arrogance, she could’ve easily sat next to those blue-suited french students. Barty hated his classes ( for more reasons than one ) so if his attitude suddenly went sour then it wasn’t something he was willing to apologize for. 

“Your teacher is ze one zat is hysterical, not the divinations. I vas told Dumbledore vas a vise man, but I vill never understand vhy he hired zat.... t’ing to be a teacher.” Vladimira said easily. “Your attitude vill not change it zough, and it certainly von’t stop you from being cursed for being a, vhat is ze vord, dickhead?”

“Eez zis castle designed to kill us all?” The brunette made a face, narrowly missing a face step she had found the night before. While certainly an interesting setup, the grand staircase seemed dangerous at best, and it was hard to imagine that there weren’t at least a few incidents of falling students a year. “’ow often do you suppose zat someone barely escapes with zere life?” She laughed, “Eet must be a terror doing zis every day.”

“I imagine zey do not fall often enough.” Vladimira responded to the Beauxbatons student curtly. “I’d rather ze stairs weed out the incompetent quickly so ve don’t have to waste our classtime on zem.”
