I am planning on ending things with my boyfriend today. I still love him very much, letting him go pains me to no end, but I feel like I’ve been the only one trying to hold on to our relationship these days and I cannot take it anymore.

2022.04.10 TOPIK day

A quick selfie with my fan(?) (cause she kept calling me her idol and asked for my signature idk lol) before TOPIK.

The listening part and writing part were fine, not the easiest but doable. But my god was the reading part a pain in the ass.

I managed to understand everything in the reading test, but it was really hard to pick the most suitable answers as there were so many small details that could have been missed and so much logical deduction needed.

MYNAME’s Message is a legendary 숨듣명 (숨어 듣는 명곡 - a song that you feel kinda embarrassing listening to in public but secretly enjoy when alone).

I feel like posting Korean study material only makes my blog seem like a cold, rigid bot that knows only Korean. So today, let me tell you the story of my accidental trip down the memory lane after binge watching Korean BL dramas.

I recently downloaded WeTV cause I wanted watch “Cherry Blossom After Winter” (겨울 지나 벚꽃).

And since the drama is not fully out yet, I decided to watch all the Korean BL dramas they have to offer, the first one (after CBAW) was “Ryu Nobleman’s Wedding” (류선비의 혼례식).

The moment I saw Ryu Hoseon character (류호선, played by Kang Insoo), I thought he was familiar and I must have seen him somewhere. But I didn’t pay it any attention and just kept on watching the drama. Definitely not the best one out there but it was a fun experience.

I watched a few more before picking “Wish You” (위시유).

Insoo was such a great singer that I decided to look him up online cause I was so sure he was a singer. And he is! He is a member of a group called MYNAME!

(Bring back this fashion pls lmao)

And my head just automatically played their song Message cause damn I was hooked on that song when it first came out. I can’t even remember when they first debuted, and when I found out their MV was uploaded in 2011 I was shocked (and felt older than ever).

And yall bet I have been listening to this song since I found it again. I also like “Wish You”’s main song “Wish for you”, which is a wonderful duet between Insoo and Sangyi.

QUICK AND EFFICIENT VOCAB STUDY TIPS

Sharing with you guys again my basic vocab study tips that I always swear by. These are nothing new or revolutionary, but it is the base that some of you might need before diving into endless TOPIK study sessions.

Let me tell you, I'm 26 this year, turning 27. Only 50% of what I studies actually stayed in my head, the remaining 50% slips out as soon as my head hits the pillow. So whenever I study, I try to make it worthwhile by using the most efficient and suitable tips for myself. I don't really go back on old study materials too much cause there is still so much more to work on.

But as I said, these are just the basic tips. I will comeback with a few detailed and advanced tips that are tailored to different types of learners next time.

TOPIK VOCABULARY 10/02/2022

I was severely sick on Tuesday (literally almost passed out from vomiting too much) so I wasn’t able to post anything on Wednesday. But I am back today and ready to study with everyone again.

We will be diving back into vocabulary today, and on the weekend we will have a revision session where we can look back at everything we studied in the week.

It is said that if you know your enemies and know yourself, you will not be put at risk even in a hundred battles.

Luckily we are not up against anyone but the upcoming TOPIK test. And to be able to pass with flying colors, we need to understand how the test is built and how to effectively study for the test.

Now that the Tet holiday is over~🎵

It’s time to get back to the race and get yourself ready for the upcoming TOPIK test. Get yourself prep and never have to regret losing points over a few weird-looking vocabularies or grammars.

When you study with me at Halley’s Adventure, you will not only learn how to do the TOPIK test, but you will also learn Korean as a language it is. As I do believe that knowledge has to be obtained and made a part of you in order for you to nail the test AND apply the knowledge in real-life academic or working situation.

We will meet each other here everyday for new vocabs and grammars, and on the weekend we will revise everything that we have learned in the week. Today, let’s start off with some vocabularies and reading skill practice, tomorrow we will learn some new grammars and talk about how to improve your listening skill. [STUDY FOR TOPIK] Korean vocabulary to start a new week

Let’s fire up Monday with a few uncommon words that can possibly confuse you in the TOPIK test. Don’t let these wear your will down cause this is just the start, and we still have a very long way to go 🤭 Remember, a bit of hard work everyday will surely pay off in a wonderful success in the future.

1. 딱하다: Pitiful, pathetic - 추위에 떨며 구걸하는 아이가 하도 딱해 보여서 집 안으로 들어오게 했다. - The child, begging and trembling in the cold, looked so pitiful that I let him enter my house.

2. 애처롭다: Pitiful, pathetic - 거지는 애간장을 녹이는 애처로운 소리로 애걸하며 행인에게 매달렸다. - The beggar clung onto the pedestrians and begged in a pathetic way that was full of sorrow.

3. 안심찮다: Uneasy, uncertain, feel sorry - 그 애한테 맡기면 일이 안심찮아서 차라리 내가 하고 만다. - I fell uneasy leaving the work to him, so I'd rather do it myself.

4. 곤란하다: Embarrassing, awkward - 선생님께서 직접 말씀하시기 곤란하면 제가 대신 이야기하겠습니다. - If you feel difficult to speak out yourself, I'll do the talking instead.

5. 여의찮다: Go wrong/amiss - 건강이 여의찮아서 학업을 포기하고 고향으로 내려갔다. - Due to poor health, I gave up my studies and went back to my hometown.

6. 알리다: Let sb know, inform - 차마 이 사실을 그에게 알릴 수가 없었다. - I couldn't let him know about the truth.

7. 통고하다: Notify, give notice - 그들은 마을 사람에게 갑자기 마을 회관으로 모이라고 통고했다. - They suddenly notified the villagers to gather at the village hall.

8. 시달하다: Order, instruct - 비상시 행동 지침을 부하들에게 시달하세요. - Instruct your subordinates with action instructions in case of an emergency.

9. 고지하다: Notify, announce - 학교 측은 학생들에게 이번 학기에 등록금을 10% 올릴 것이라고 고지하였다. - The school notified the students that it would raise the tuition by 10% this semester.

10. 보드랍다: Soft - 비가 내려서인지 발길에 와 닿는 흙의 감촉이 아주 보드라웠다. - Perhaps because of the rain, the texture of the soil that touched my feet was very soft.

WHAT DOES 액땜 MEAN?

So today someone from my company got fined on his way to work, and my boss was kind enough to console him that being fined was just 액땜, and thanks to that he won't have to go through hardships again next year.

According to the dictionary, 액땜 means "Being able to safely overcome the big difficulties that are coming up in the future by experiencing little ones in advance". I couldn't find the equivalant expression for this word in English, but if you do, please let me know!

And example: You can console someone who lost their wallet like this:

지갑 잃은 일을 액땜으로 쳐려~ 덕분에 나중에 힘든 일이 없을 거란 말이야~

"Just consider losing your wallet as the price you paid to avoid hardships later on."
