some of you are wayyy too hung up on your imaginary ideal season 1 and 2 style 1:1 perfectly accurate adaptation of tvl and crying throwing up about it before we even rlly know anything. the show is its own beast and one of the very first things they took the time to establish was that lestat does not enjoy or bother with telling stories in a linear fashion. of course we're getting more of auvergne, but we're going to get what matters, WHEN it matters for modern lestat to tell it. it's not the show's fault that you're not very bright

Of course the way the show handles the past in this season is different than it was in IwtV. Louis wanted to revisit his past - he wanted to reminisce about life with Claudia and Lestat in New Orleans, and he wanted to plumb the depths of his memory to understand who he is in the present. He had questions that only revisiting the past could answer.

Lestat does not want to return to or reminisce about the past. His memories are unwelcome, and what they tell him about who he is and what has made him brings only pain. He does not want to question or to get answers. So he rushes through the past and tries to dull his pain in the frantic hedonism of the present.

I agree; ish. it is a very different ask, one that is very understandable and reasonable. I think the issue is that that sentiment assumes the issue is money. it very much is not. toby fox only localizes to japanese and english because those are the two languages he knows. for most devs you just hire someone, but toby fox is a bit of an insane dev, in that he personally works with the team at every step in translation to ensure exactly what he wants to convey is conveyed. thats a level of hands-on-ness that causes issues when translating to languages he *doesnt* know.

from what we've seen in legends of localization, toby, if told there was no choice but to localize at least one more language, would almost certainly move to another country for the purposes of learning it. the dude's just wacky like that.

that being said

I'd think a compromise of a disclaimer saying "this language has been translated, not localized, and may lose vital aspects of the story" and hiring people to translate would be catagorically good. I just dont think toby is okay enough with losing that much control to do it.
