I have been thinking about certain DC characters and how they would fit in the Absolute Universe. You saw the title. So here's the hook-

Richard Swift never stumbled upon the Ludlows that fateful night. Simon Culp caught up with him and has never let go of him since.

Culp would thrive in the world created by Darkseid, indulging in his worst impulses (including but not limited to eating babies) and enabling others to do the same. He would be a staple of Jubal Slade's island, mingling with the elites and making friends like Veronica Cale, Eleanor Thawne and the Al Ghuls as something of a fixer.

The Shade here is not the same elegant antihero he is in the main universe. Richard has been Simon's prisoner and plaything for nearly two centuries, subjected to mind games and abuses of all kinds until he broke. He appears unkempt and sickly looking every time he is ripped from the Shadow Lands. He has been rendered mute and his eyes are dull and lifeless.

The Shade is Simon's tool in "fixing" problems- disposing of people Simon and his acquaintances deemed "troublesome", most of them young women and girls whom Simon and Slade grew tired of. When Simon unleashes him on someone, his Shade dogs his prey until the very end. However, his weaknesses include strong, strobing flashes of light and, oddly, the cries of babies which causes him to break down crying.
