Just thinking about how Mark S covered in blood, face distraught with anger, hair disheveled, and suit ruined is so much more real.

I think there's a lot of ways to view it, but I think in this case it was a pure breakdown of the central conflict in the movie. Its about personal consequences vs the moral choice. That snivelling little man represents everyone waiting on the sidelines and watching and waiting for evil people to "do the right thing."

The first doctor died in the tenth Planet, and was replaced by the Monk, and that's why his clothes and personality change. This also explains why the monk never shows up again, he's actually been the main character for 58 years.

The reason the doctor never goes back to Susan? He knows she will be able to tell he's not the doctor. This is also the reason the doctor/master relationship is so angsty because the master hasn't noticed and the monk is trying really hard to cosplay as the doctor.

Twice Upon a Time was the monk convincing the doctor to actually live, and this created the alternate timeline that the curse of fatal death Doctors exist in. Now the master in the curse of fatal death? Also the monk.
