The sauna on the Moby Dick wasnât exactly private, but when you were the lover of Marco the Phoenix, you tended to get privileges.
Especially when he was the one dragging you in there with a mischievous grin and a glint in his ocean-blue eyes.
âI bet you canât last ten minutes without ditchinâ your towel-yoi,â he teased, his voice low and playful as you both stepped inside, steam curling around his bare chest.
You smirked, clutching your towel tighter around yourself. âI could say the same to you, bird boy.â
Marco laughed, settling on the wooden bench across from you, arms resting lazily over the backrest, towel slung dangerously low on his hips. The glisten of sweat already starting to coat his tanned skin was borderline obscene.
The heat was intense â dense and humid â but it was nothing compared to the way he was looking at you. Like a meal. Like you were the only thing on the menu.
And you werenât exactly doing a good job hiding your stare either.
The rise and fall of his chest. The subtle flex in his thighs when he adjusted his position. The faint trail of golden-blond hair leading down below the towel that was starting to look very optional.
âHow long we been in here?â you asked, feigning boredom even as you shifted in your seat, sweat sliding down your inner thighs.
âFive minutes,â Marco replied, gaze flicking downward. âYou already sweatinâ like crazy. You sure you ainât about to tap out-yoi?â
You stuck your tongue out at him and adjusted your towel more snugly â which only succeeded in giving him a better peek at your cleavage. His eyes darkened, and his grin sharpened.
You narrowed your gaze. âYouâre trying to make me drop it.â
âI donât need to try-yoi,â he said lazily. âYou look like youâre two drips of sweat away from giving up.â
âOh, really?â you challenged, standing up slowly, confidently â even though your legs felt a little weak from the heat and his attention. âMaybe Iâll just walk around and let you suffer.â
You gave him a show, pacing across the small sauna space in slow, deliberate steps. Every swing of your hips, every tug of your towel to âadjustâ it, made his jaw tense more.
âCareful,â he warned, eyes fixed like a predator. âYou strut like that much longer and Iâll forget weâre playinâ a game.â
You turned toward him, head tilted. âWhat if thatâs the point?â
The look Marco gave you then was pure fire. He stood in one smooth motion, shedding his towel and tossing it aside like it was a minor inconvenience. His cock was already half-hard â thick, flushed, and unmistakably hungry.
You swallowed.
Your eyes flicked up to meet his, and you dropped your towel without a word.
It hit the floor with a quiet thud.
That was all the invitation he needed.
Marco crossed the distance in two strides, grabbing your face in both hands and kissing you hard, breathlessly, like heâd been waiting for permission. His lips were hot, slick with sweat and lust, and the taste of him was already making your head spin.
He pressed you back against the sauna wall, one hand braced beside your head, the other sliding down to your hip, then around to grip your ass and pull you flush against him.
His cock twitched between you, hard and leaking, nudging against your stomach.
You gasped into his mouth when his thigh slipped between yours, and you rocked against it instinctively.
âFuck,â Marco muttered, breaking the kiss to nip at your jaw, your ear. âYouâre already so wet. Sauna got you like this, or was it me-yoi?â
âYou,â you whispered, grinding against his thigh. âAlways you.â
âGood.â
He kissed you again, then dropped to his knees without warning.
You grabbed for his shoulders in shock, but he was already dragging one of your legs over his shoulder, lifting it so he could bury his face between your thighs.
You cried out, back arching against the heat of the wall.
His tongue licked a slow stripe up your slit before circling your clit with lazy, practiced swirls. He groaned as if tasting something divine, hands gripping your ass as he devoured you like it was the only thing that mattered.
You moaned loudly, fingers tangling in his damp hair. âM-marcoâshitââ
He chuckled into your cunt. âLoud in here, huh? Anyone walkinâ byâs gonna know exactly what Iâm doinâ to you.â
You whined, bucking your hips forward, and he rewarded you with faster strokes, sucking gently before sliding his tongue lower â dipping inside you until your legs shook.
âNghh~ IâIâm closeââ you warned, breath hitching.
But he pulled away, rising to his feet and catching your mouth again, lips wet with your taste.
âWant you to cum on my cock instead.â
With a groan, he lifted you easily, pressing your back against the warm wooden wall as you wrapped your legs around his waist. He aligned himself with one hand and thrust into you slowly, inch by inch, until he was fully inside.
You both gasped.
âFuck, you feel perfect,â he muttered into your neck, hips rolling in slow, grinding motions that made your walls flutter.
Your nails scraped down his back as he started to move â deep, steady thrusts that made your breath hitch with every slam of his hips. The sauna air was thick with the scent of sex and sweat, the sound of skin slapping and your shared moans bouncing off the wood.
You clenched around him, and Marco growled, slamming deeper.
âYou tryinâ to break me, babe?â he panted, one hand gripping your thigh tighter. âYou keep squeezinâ me like that, Iâm not gonna last-yoi.â
âT-then fuck me harder,â you begged, eyes locked on his.
That did it.
Marco slammed into you with relentless force, cock dragging against all the right spots, the angle just enough to make stars burst behind your eyes.
You screamed his name as your orgasm hit, body trembling, nails digging into his shoulders.
He fucked you through it, pace erratic now, losing control.
âWhere do you want it?â he rasped.
âInside hmgh~,â you gasped. âPleaseâfill me up.â
His rhythm faltered, and with a strangled groan, he buried himself deep and came hard, cock pulsing inside you as he gripped your body like you were the only thing anchoring him to reality.
LaterâŚ
You slumped in his lap, still joined, both of you panting and sticky with sweat and cum.
ââŚI think we broke the sauna,â you murmured, eyes barely open.
âWorth it-yoiâ Marco mumbled into your shoulder.
âI won the bet,â you added smugly.
He huffed a laugh. âNah. I won.â
âHow?â
He looked up, grinning like the devil. âI got you to drop the towel.â
You rolled your eyes. âYouâre insufferable.â
âAnd you love me for it,â he said, pecking your lips.
âUnfortunately.â
âCome on.â He stood, carrying you with ease. âLetâs go shower before someone walks in and finds out why the whole room smells like sex-yoiâ
âYou started it,â you mumbled, hiding your face in his neck.
Marcoâs chuckle was the last sound echoing off the sauna walls.

Having Ace as a soulmate is like dating a clingy campfire with feelings. Heâs loud, loyal, and fully prepared to self-immolate if you so much as shiver, mentally or physically. Heâs been obsessed since pubertyâand yes, he still thinks spontaneous combustion is a valid love language. âIf my soulmateâs cold, Iâll just set myself on fire. Easy fix.â Now you are scared and cold.

-Bond Awakening-
It started innocently enough.
You are normal. At least, you try to be. You pay your taxes (when applicable), respect your elders (unless theyâre creeps), and only scream into your pillow when absolutely necessary. You grew up in a modest village where nothing exciting ever happenedâexcept, of course, for the fact that youâve had a pirate in your head since age six.
Youâre aggressively normal. You like toast. You do your taxes early. You read books in quiet corners and have strong opinions about brand-name toothpaste. You are average with a capital A.
At first, the bond felt innocent enough. There were brief flickers of emotion, bits of curiosity, and the occasional overwhelming urge to punch something and then apologize to it.
Then the voice started speaking in full sentences; chaotic, unfiltered, and alarmingly sincere.
âI hope he knows I love him even if I punched him. In the face.âÂ
âIf I die, I want to die doing something cool. Like falling into lava to save a kitten.âÂ
âDo whales get lonely?âÂ
âIf I set this on fire and run away fast enough, technically itâs not my fault.â
A loud voice. With zero filter. And no self-preservation instinct.
It wasnât just thoughts. You had vivid dreams of eating everything within a fifty-mile radius. Youâd wake up laughing at jokes you never told. Or screaming, because some distant, invisible dumbass decided to fight a Sea King at age ten.
You knew what it meant. The telepathic thread had been there since childhood. Most people got soft hums of emotion, the occasional comforting whisper.Â
âOi, how many push-ups does it take to break a tree?â âI should punch that guy. No reason. Just vibes.â âIf I die young, bury me in meat.â
His name, as you eventually piece together through years of one-sided nonsense, is Ace.Â
Full name?Â
Portgas D. Ace
Youâre just a normal, average person with a skincare routine and a deathly fear of taxes. Which is exactly why the universe, in its infinite humor, decided to tether your soul to Ace. Heâs a human wildfire with the emotional processing skills of a stray golden retriever and the attention span of a sunburned raccoon.
His hobbies include: eating until death seems imminent, throwing hands with gods and warlords, spontaneous arson, and emotionally repressing every feeling that isnât hunger or homicidal loyalty.
Youâve never met him. But youâve heard him. He doesnât know you exist. But you know him.
You know he doesnât believe in soulmates. You know he eats like a vacuum. You know he cries alone at night and pretends he doesnât. You know he got his first tattoo on a dare. And unfortunately⌠You also know that he once set a spider on fire to impress someone. (He regrets it. The spider haunted him in a dream. He whispered an apology three years later.)
A Sample of Your Childhood Psychic Transcript â Extended Cut
Age 7: "Do you think seagulls ever get depressed?" You were in math class. Trying to learn multiplication tables. Your soulmate, somewhere out there, was staring into the ocean like a tiny, unmedicated philosopher with a flair for existential bird-based melancholy.
You blinked. Raised your hand. Asked to use the bathroom. Sat on the toilet and whispered, âWhat?â
Age 8: "If I became a pirate, do you think theyâd let me keep my blanket?" It was a sincere question. It made your heart ache. Not because it was sweet, but because you realized your soulmate was already planning his outlaw era.
Age 10: âIf I get eaten by a sea king, tell Luffy I died hot.â
You were sitting in the back of the library, hunched over a weathered copy of Advanced Multiplication, when the voice echoed across your skull with all the solemnity of a soldierâs final words.
You blinked. Slowly. Once. Twice.
The voiceâhis voiceâsounded older now. Still boyish, still rough around the edges, but with the kind of melodramatic resignation only a twelve-year-old could muster with such commitment. He sounded like someone whoâd stared death in the face and decided to make it weird.
You turned the page. Pretended not to hear.
Other children had imaginary friends. You had this.
A borderline-delinquent who philosophized about death, grilled fish, and sea birds like they were moral arbiters of heaven and hell. A boy with a voice like fire and laughter, who once gave you a blow-by-blow breakdown of how to win a fistfight with a wild boar. He narrated everything. Bad decisions. Petty theft. Emotional spirals. The occasional hallucination.
You never answered. Not once. You were practiced. Well-trained. Unshakable.
But fate, as it often does, waited patiently to make you suffer.
-The Cold War-
Age 13:
It began with a whisper. Then a crackle. Thenâsuddenly, violentlyââBOOBS.â
You choked mid-sip of your tea. Nearly stabbed yourself with your own pencil. The word reverberated in your head like a cannon blast, unfiltered and aggressively enthusiastic. There was silence. A stunned, terrible silence.
And then his voice, slightly breathless and awestruck: âI just⌠wow. That bartender was built like a miracle. Do you think she noticed me? Should I have said something? Was âYou have nice elbowsâ too weird?â
You sat motionless at the kitchen table, pencil still mid-stroke in a math equation you would never, ever finish. You could feel your soul physically detaching from your body.
Almost seven years. Seven. Seven years of absurdity. Of hunger rants. Of emotional crises about clouds that looked like parental neglect. Of vivid psychic broadcasts of every single dumb fight, scar, and mood swing.
But this? This crossed a line.
You stood. Slowly. Like a woman wronged. Marched outside. And screamed into the dirt like an ancient priestess channeling divine rage.
Somewhere, far away, a bird fell out of a tree from secondhand embarrassment.
âNO!â you yelled into the sky, fists clenched. âYOU DO NOT GET TO BE HORNY AND STUPID. PICK ONE!â
And somewhere, across sea and wind and skyâ He heard you.
A pause. A stunned intake of breath.
ââŚWait,â his voice said, softer now. âThat was you. You talked. Youâre real. Oh my god, who are you? Tell me your name. Tell me your location. Iâll find you. I swearâIâll find you.â
You didnât scream again. You didnât cry. You didnât faint. You simply answered, tone flat and final:
âNo. Iâm retracting my existence. Goodbye.â
And then you slammed the doorâmetaphysically, psychically, spirituallyâand mentally filed a full restraining order against fate.
He did not take it well.
âWas it the boob thing? I swear I respect women. I meanâI donât not notice them, but Iâm not, like, a pervert. Just observational. Please respond. I havenât eaten in four hours. I donât know why that matters, but emotionally it feels important.â
You do not.
âIf I die of heartbreak and/or starvation, tell Luffy Iâwait. You already know. I died hot.â
By day four, heâd reached the melodramatic stage of soulmate grief.
âIâve named the seagull that keeps following me. His name is Betrayal.â
You ignored him. You hardened your mind like iron. Practiced psychic silence like a religion.
But some nights, when the world was quiet and your guard slipped, you still felt the flicker of him at the edge of your thoughts: warm, restless, and ridiculous.
And onceâjust onceâyou heard him whisper through the bond, low and serious, voice heavy with something new.
âPlease just let me know youâre okay. Iâll waitââ
You didnât reply. Not then. But after the quiet way he whispered Iâll wait like a vow instead of a threatâyou found yourself staring at the ceiling. Thinking. Overthinking. Trying very hard not to care.
And failing.
Just a little.
Eventually, grudgingly, with the emotional grace of someone returning to a party they swore they left foreverâŚyou let him back in. Not fully. Not warmly. Not with words so much as intention. But with conditions.
He wasnât allowed to interrupt test days. No horny thoughts before noon. Absolutely no narrating your dreams back to you with commentary like, âWhoa, that one had symbolism.â And if he wanted to share his feelings, he had to at least pretend to have emotional self-awareness.
Naturally, he ignored all of this.
You became a master of selective tuning. His chaotic thoughts drifted through your mind like white noise: background nonsense you could mute with a blink. You mastered the sacred art of psychic eye-rolls.
He, in turn, began calling you âMystery Babeâ when you humored him and âInvisible Gremlinâ when you roasted him into the dirt. You answered once in a blue moon. Just enough to ruin his day.
Like, âYou fell off that cliff because you tried to flirt mid-backflip. Not because the ground betrayed you.â
Or, âYour idea of stealth is shouting âthis way, boysâ at full volume.â
Or, worst of all: âI donât dream about you. You sound like you smell like firewood and have impulse control issues.â
And Ace? He lost his entire damn mind. Delightfully. Publicly. Apocalyptically.
He became obsessed. Utterly, wildly, romantically feral.
Because now he knew you were out there. Real. Sharp. Hidden. The girl who outsmarted fate, ghosted destiny, and occasionally replied just to hand him his own ego on a silver platter.
You werenât sweet. You werenât eager. You werenât simping.
You were just mean enough to be hot.
Like a mirage that tells you to hydrate and die.
And it was ruining him.
His crewmates noticed immediately.
âIs Ace talking to himself again?â
âNo, heâs arguing with his soulmate.â
ââŚDoes she answer?â
âOnly to mock him.â
They started calling you The Phantom. Deuce took bets on whether you were real. Skull tried to flirt with the empty air once and got psychically blasted with, âNot you, oil-slick.â
By week three of your emotionally distant reappearance, Ace had declaredâloudly, mid-fight, while on fire, âI donât need to find the One Piece. I need to find my soulmate, so I can formally apologize for my horny teenage brain and then ask them to punch me in the face.â
There was silence.
Then the enemy captain nodded solemnly. âThatâs valid,â he said, before Ace knocked him out. And honestly? Probably the most emotionally mature thing Ace had ever said.
And you almost responded. Almost. But instead⌠You smiled. And went back to ignoring him.
Age 15:
âIâm gonna fight this volcano. Iâve got it. No regrets.â
It came in loud and proud, mid-afternoon. You were standing in line at the pharmacy, waiting for cold medicine, when your soulmate decided to challenge a natural disaster to a duel.
You closed your eyes. Counted to five. He kept going.
âIf it kills me, bury me with snacks. And a sword. Even if I didnât have one. Just for the drama.â You pressed your fingers to your temples like you could pinch the psychic connection out of existence.
He was persistent. And worse, he was charming.
In the most idiotic, reckless, infuriatingly loyal golden retriever way imaginable.
He wasnât suave. He wasnât smooth. He was a walking campfire with sass and a dangerously low number of self-preservation instincts.
You were not speaking, but still, he talked to you.
âIf I ever meet you, I hope you hate me at first,â he said once, quieter than usual. âThat way, I can earn it. I wanna earn it.â
âIâd probably ruin your life,â he admitted another time. âBut like⌠nicely?â
âMaybe you donât exist. Maybe I got the broken kind of bond.â
And then, worst of all, the one that landed like a stone in your chest: âIf youâre real, I hope youâre happy. Even if itâs not with me.â
You hate that he sounds sincere.
Age 16:Â
You are entirely convinced this man should be institutionalized.
You learn to live around him. You train your face not to react when he narrates his internal monologues mid-battle. You do not try to talk back. Youâve heard what happens when soulmates do that. It's called âdumbass feedback loop.â Two people yelling in each otherâs heads until someone faints.
Instead, you simply exist. Quietly. Carefully. Youâre old enough to drop out of school and change locations, which you do, and often. Use fake names. Pick villages with low foot traffic. Avoid taverns where Wanted Posters hang.
Ace, for his part, is infuriated by this.
He doesnât know who you are. Doesnât know where you are. Canât even figure out your gender for the first ten years. He only knows you exist because he keeps trying to scream into the void, and you never scream back.
Which, of course, drives him completely insane.
He grows up.
You do too. You get better at tuning him out.
Until one day.
âI think Iâm being followed. That guy has weird teeth. I might punch him. If I die, sorry, soulmate. I wish I had kissed someone.â
You freeze. Because itâs the first time heâs said anything that sounded like a goodbye. You donât respond, and you find the words canât break the door youâve built open. But you stay up all night anyway. Eyes on the ceiling. Fingernails biting your palms.
The next day?
Heâs fine.
âThat guy was weird, but I gave him my sandwich. He cried. I cried. Weâre friends now.â
You sob into your pillow.
Ace, Age 17:Â
âOkay, look. If youâre real. If youâre out there. Just⌠tap something. Whisper. Blink twice mentally.â
You: (mentally blinking once, for spite)
You become excellent at mental firewalling. He starts testing you.
âDo you like meat? Just tell me that. I wonât track you down. Probably. If you donât respond in 3 seconds, Iâm gonna assume youâre dead and go commit arson in your honor.â
Eventually, he starts talking to you the way people talk to their diaries; with sarcasm and later, sincerity.
Thatâs when things get complicated.
Because, behind all the reckless noise and weird thoughts about trying to headbutt a sea emperor, thereâs this ache. This softness you werenât expecting. He starts wondering out loud if he deserves a soulmate. Starts apologizing when heâs angry. Tells you about Luffy, about Sabo, and his untimely death (you sob for hours). About the fire in his chest that never quite goes out.
He doesn't even know you're listening.
And you wish you werenât.
Because now it hurts. Now you want to answer.
But you donât. You canât. You know what kind of people hunt soulmates, especially ones with D. in their name. If the Navy finds you, theyâll use you. If pirates find you, theyâll sell you. And if Ace finds you?
...You donât know what heâd do. But itâd probably involve grinning, dramatic declarations, and upsetting explosions.
So, instead, you run. You hide. You exist in the margins. You watch from the edges of the news whenever you hear about Whitebeardâs crew. You silently cheer when you read about them protecting islands and sinking slaver ships.
You almost cry the first time Ace calls you âmy tether.â And then he follows it with âwhich sounds weird and kinda kinky, but spiritually accurate.â
You throw a spoon across the room.
You talk to him for the first timeâreally talk to himâwhen youâre seventeen.
Itâs been eleven years of chaotic background noise. Of pirate shenanigans, shirtless bragging, impromptu wrestling matches, and unsolicited thoughts about meat, knives, ghosts, fire, and, occasionally, emotional devastation disguised as jokes.
Youâve learned to compartmentalize him. A psychic raccoon rummaging around your mental trash cans. Sometimes loud, sometimes weirdly insightful. Always there.
But that year?
Thatâs the year you hear him cry.
You donât even know what triggers it. Youâre just heading home, a basket of bread in one hand, the sun warm on your shoulders, when suddenly the world goes sideways.
âWhy does it keep happening?â
His voice isnât loud this time. Itâs broken. Quiet. Heâs not performing. Not cracking jokes. Just sitting somewhere, talking to no one. Maybe himself.
Maybe you.
âI keep losing everyone.â A breath. âFirst Sabo. Now the Spade Pirates.â He swallows hard. You feel it in your ribs. âI try to be good. ButâŚâ
Silence.
Then the whisper that shatters something soft in your chest:
â...Maybe I donât deserve anyone.â
You stop walking.
Right there. In the middle of the road. The wind is gentle. Your throat is not.
You hesitate. For too long. Long enough to almost let it pass.
âYou do.â
The word is small. Just one. But it slams into him like a cannonball.
âWHâNO WAY.â His voice skyrockets into disbelief. âYou talked again! Youâyou heard all of that?! Forget it! UNHEAR IT. I sounded like a tragic romance novel. I need a redo.â
You roll your eyes.
âYou sounded like a dumbass in pain. Which is slightly better than your usual dumbass setting.â
âOh my god, youâre perfect.â
You ignore the heat crawling up your neck.
He doesnât.
âWaitâWAITâthis is real. Youâre real. Youâre not dead or a voice invented by head trauma orâwait, youâre not a tree, right? I once emotionally confessed to a tree. It didnât answer.â
You sigh. Pinch the bridge of your nose.
âI am not a tree. You absolute himbo.â
He makes a sound like heâs been physically electrocuted with joy. And just like that, Ace starts beaming across your bond. Not literally, but it feels like light. Like heat. Like a bonfire on a cold night that you didnât realize youâd needed.
âThis is the best day of my life. Please marry me. Or at least tell me your name. Or insult me again. Iâd take any of those.â
You donât give him your name. Not yet.
But you do say, âIâm not ready for you to find me.â
Ace joins something called âThe Whitebeard Piratesâ.Â
You quietly wonder if itâs a strip club or a cult.
But now, youâre curious, committed, and listening at metaphoric windows in his mind palace. The crack in your own mental door widens. Just enough that you know unconsciously are transmitting some spare thoughts.Â
Enough that you may accidentally transmit more details than you intend.
Itâs not a scream. Itâs not a cry for help. Itâs not even a thought meant for him. Itâs a snort. Of all things. A quiet, private, mental snort of disbelief.
Youâve spent your whole life avoiding him.
And honestly? Youâve been excellent at it.
Fake names. Remote towns. A personal blacklist of any island thatâs ever whispered âWhitebeard.â You were disciplined. Focused. Determined not to let your soulmate ruin your peace.
Because you knew too much.
Youâd heard his thoughts since childhoodâunfiltered, uninvited, and deeply, profoundly stupid. Youâd heard him fart. Cry. Argue with seagulls. Wonder aloud if crabs feel jealousy. Youâd built up a mental image of a human raccoon with fire powers and the emotional depth of a wet sock.
And for years, that was fine.
Until today.
When you see it, youâre at a sleepy little port, casually browsing a message board for work. A wanted poster with a familiar name.
You glance. Just a peek.
And freeze.
Name: Portgas D. Ace.
Bounty: Irrelevant.
Expression: A curl at this lips lifting up like sin.
The creature is hot.
And a pirate.Â
But more importantâ Heâs unethically hot. Shirt-open, jaw-sharp, lean-muscle, freckles-like-a-gift-from-God hot.
You envisioned a gremlin with muscles and zero self-preservation. You expected a 6-foot-tall disaster man held together by ego, duct tape, and barbecue sauce.
But this?
And he is divine punishment in man form. Shirt half-buttoned (barely). Freckles like stardust. Muscles that have never known a shirt that fits. A smile that should be federally regulated.Â
And dimples. Dimples.Â
He looks like he rolled out of a bonfire, forgot what a brush is, and still makes grown adults walk into walls. He looks like someone who would text âYou up?â at 2 AM, and mean it platonically, then absolutely ruin your life in bed.
You sit on a bench. You stare at the poster. The wind rustles. Somewhere, someone sneezes.
You mutter, âOh no. Heâs hot. I am so screwed.â
Because now thereâs a problem.
Youâve spent over a decade building immunity to his personality.
But no one prepared you for the smoulder.
And the worst part?
He feels it.
Ace is halfway through fighting a sea king when it hits. He literally pauses mid-punch.
âHoly crap,â he whispers. âThey noticed me.â
Marco looks up. âWho?â
âMy soulmate thinks Iâm hot.â
He beams like the sun just kissed him. He fights a sea king out of pure euphoria. He gives a romantic speech to a palm tree.
And when he laughsâlow and rough, like warm honey with a death wishâyour brain short-circuits.
And he lets you have it.
âHey!â Even his mentally transmitted voice is a problem. Sleep-rough and smug, âMiss me, baby? Bet you were thinking about me again. Donât lieâI felt it. You feel really pretty in your head. Want me to walk you through it again?â
You tried everything.
Cold showers. Meditation. Punching someone for fun.
Nothing works.Â
Because Ace is a wildfire in human skin and bad decisions.
And worst of all?
He knows.
âIâll let you touch the V-line if you say please.â
Youâve considered hurling yourself overboard more than once. But unfortunately, Ace can swim in your head. And heâs always shirtless when he gets there. Youâve moved ten times. Changed names. Changed continents.
Ace? Unbothered. Thriving. Intensifying. He starts taking notes. (Theyâre mostly unreadable. But itâs the effort.) Heâs narrowed it down. He knows youâre alive and that you move often. That youâve been dodging fate with Olympic-level skill.
Heâs not mad.
Heâs impressed.
âYouâve been dodging destiny like a pro. Damn. Marry me.â Now he daydreams about meeting you mid-brawl. Or during a cursed artifact heist.
Or stealing the same apple off a rooftop and locking eyes like, âSo⌠this is awkward.â
He doesnât want a perfect moment. He wants you. Your weird live-stock obsessed brain and all.
And you? You still think heâs reckless, loud, and infuriating. But⌠maybeâŚJust maybeâŚHeâs exactly your kind of problem.
Wait. WAIT.
You reel back.
He gets slapped into a rock. He barely notices. He is too busy grinning like a moron.
Thatâs it.
Thatâs the moment he decides: He is going to find you.
Before, it was passive curiosity. Now? Itâs an obsession. Amusement. Intrigue. Hope.
Someone sarcastic. Someone real. Someone who thinks heâs an idiot (correct). Someone who sounds more like a human person than a divine blessing.
Heâs doomed.
He starts doing things he never used to do. Asking questions. Collecting rumors. Not of his soulmate, because no one knows what heâs after, but about soulmates, connections, and how the hell does anyone find each other if they donât want to?
You dyed your hair the moment his emotional compass started pinging your hometown. You moved when he began fantasizing about coastal bars.
You became an urban legend. The myth. The whisper. That one girl whoâs just not answering back.
Somewhere out there, your soulmate has a reputation. Heâs one of those with A Silent Bondâ. Pirates dare him to try to find you. He drinks too much sometimes and mutters, âSheâs real. I know she is.â Someone once asked if maybe you died.
He said, âShe didnât. Sheâs just better at this than me.â
And you are.
But lately, the voice has been quiet. Too quiet.
Which is why, one night, halfway through brushing your teeth, a warm, raspy thought slips into your skull like a dagger wrapped in velvet, "I think I found your hometown, but youâre already gone...You win⌠this time. But if I see you, Iâm still keeping you."
And you choke on your toothbrush.
The next mistake in your proverbial abode being invaded comes quickly.
He first catches a glimpse of you by accident. And it ruins him for days.
The bond has always been mostly one-sided. Him shouting into the abyss, you offering the occasional snarky whisper like some irritated brain ghost with boundary issues. Youâve never slipped. Youâve never let anything real through.Â
Until that day.
You were distracted. Tired. In the middle of patching a leak in your roof, your arms are covered in sap, and your soul is covered in rage because the only thing worse than your soulmate yelling about meat in your head is leaky ceilings during monsoon season.
And then, just for a flicker, you thought something too loudly.
You didnât mean to. You were yelling internally about your ladder being possessed and made of evil wood spirits. You were furious with gravity. You were sweaty, sore, and covered in twigs.
And then, like a crack in a door.
He sees you.
Not fully. Just a snapshot, like the first page of a dream:
Sunlight streaking through wet leaves. Your face in half-shadow, eyes squinting up at a broken shingle. A smear of dirt across your cheek. Mouth pressed flat in focus. Your hand raised to swipe your brow, wrist wrapped in a red ribbon that was probably nothing but made his whole chest ache.
And worst of all: You are beautiful.
Not like the kind of âhotâ he was always joking about. Not bartender-curvy or saloon-pretty or the fantasy women his crewmates dreamt up. You looked real.
Solid.
Warm.
Like someone he could come home to.
It knocked the breath out of him.
â...Whoa.â
The whisper was involuntary. Barely a word. More like a reverent exhale.
On your side, you froze.
Because you felt it.Â
You felt the moment he saw. The way the tether between your minds trembled, like it had finally aligned. Like it was no longer just a voice.
It had eyes. And they saw you.
âOh my god,â he murmured, a little broken. âYouâre real. Youâreââ
You smacked the bond shut.
So hard, it echoed.
You didnât talk to him again for two weeks.
And Ace?
Ace spent those two weeks walking around like a man hit by divine lightning.
He tried drawing your face from memory. Failed. Got angry. Started sketching again. Asked Thatch if heâd ever had a religious experience involving a hammer-wielding forest nymph and a red ribbon.
Everyone thought he was concussed.
Marco eventually sat him down and asked if he'd been cursed by a wood sprite. Ace just stared at the table and whispered, âSheâs incredible.â And because heâs somehow managed to wedge a figurative foot in the door jam, he gets more glimpses.
It happens at night.
Youâre alone, exhausted, curled up in a too-small bed on a too-small island that doesnât even have proper plumbing. Thereâs a storm outside, thunder heavy and close, and youâve been pretending all day that you arenât upset.
But pretending only gets you so far.
You lie there, trembling. Not with fear. Just with the quiet, suffocating ache of trying to stay strong all the time. And thatâs when your thoughts falter.
You let your guard drop.
Across the sea, Ace jolts upright.
Because suddenly, youâre there.
Not a thought. Not a quip. Another glance.
Like a flash through water. You. In the dark. Hunched over your own arms. Quietly crying into a pillow.
Not sobbing. Not loud.
Just⌠cracking.
Soft and honest and completely unguarded. The window next to your bed is cracked open. The candle is burning low. Your hands are gripping the sheets like theyâre the only thing tethering you to the world.
You donât even think of his name. But you feel him. And thatâs worse.
And he feels everything.
He doesnât move.
Doesnât breathe.
For once, he doesnât say anything.
He just watches in that stolen second, completely still, as his chest fills with something heavy, protective, and utterly unhinged.
He sees you. The real you.
Not just the sharp voice. Not the teasing distance. But the person beneath it all. Fragile. Furious. Lonely.
You snap the bond shut again the second you feel him. It slams so hard he physically stumbles back on the deck of the Moby Dick.
âHeyâ! No, waitâ!â
Silence.
He doesnât chase the bond. Not right away. He just sits there, staring into the storm, heart pounding like a drum.
And then, very softly, he whispers to no one.
âYou donât ever have to be alone again, you know. Not with me.â
You huff in annoyance, trying to pull the mental shutters down like you're closing a damn window, but no matter how much you lock them, he's still there, pressing against the edges of your thoughts like he's trying to squeeze through a crack. And damn it, itâs working. His mental presence fills the spaces youâve tried so hard to keep him out of, and now you canât stop yourself from giving him all these little snippets of your mind, no matter how much you want to.
And goddamn it, when he decides to stay on your stoop, refusing to budge, there's only so much you can doâthe nerve of him. Thereâs something oddly endearing about how he doesnât back off, even when your mental voice tells him to just leave. He likes hearing your rambling nonsense, which makes you even more annoyed.
But itâs not just that. Itâs the gems heâs pulling from you now. The stupid thoughts you canât quite hide. Like that one, for example. You thought, just for a second, that the man who joined the Whitebeard's crew was somehow more interested in your bond, for the social aspect of it all. Like maybe he'd just stumbled into your mental space for the friendship and sweet, sweet no-escape bonding time, right?Â
Itâs not completely irrational, right? Maybe a little delusional, but not out there. A guy that big with all that muscle? You really didnât expect him to fit the âfaithful romantic heroâ tropeâespecially with âpirateâ as his job title. Heâs probably out there throwing hands and other things in every port he visits.
And every time something even remotely flirtatious crosses his mind, you bolt like your brainâs on fire, diving into farm animal facts just to avoid that embarrassing knowledge about what his hormones are up to behind closed doors.
Heâs just not interested in you, carnally at least. Why would he be? Youâre... you. Heâs a famous pirate, a literal fire-bending golden retriever with abs and a fleet. Heâs probably got a sexy fishwoman in every port. Hell, you'd fold for a sexy fishwoman, so why shouldnât he?
But of course, he chooses the worst possible time to clarify. While youâre shopping. In public.
A thought slams into your brain like a meteor dipped in honey and sin.
âYouâre not subtle, sweetheart.â
You physically jolt, and the egg vendor takes a step back. âYou good?â
You nod, staring into the void. Because that voiceâthe one you havenât heard in weeksâis suddenly awake. Smug. Dangerous.
âNot interested?...Not interested?â
A beat of silence.
âYouâve been dodging me for years like a criminal with a crush. You flinched when you saw my poster. You think I didnât feel that spark? I felt your thirst, babe. It came through like a punch to the solar plexus.â
You grip the egg basket like itâs the only thing keeping you upright.
âYou think Iâm not interested? Iâve been tracking your emotional wreckage like a lovesick bloodhound with ADHD and a lighter.â
And then, of course, he gets descriptive.
Vivid. Uncomfortably so.
Your knees buckle a little.
âThe things I could do if youâd just sit still for five damn minutes,â He practically screams, âAnd stop thinking about goats. Or cows. Or whatever weird barnyard tangent you go off on when you panic.â
You mentally scream, LIVESTOCK IS A COMFORTING TOPIC, and he laughs out loud in your brain.
Itâs a warm, rough laugh that slides down your spine like a sin you werenât ready to commit.
You drop your eggs.
And he keeps going.
âYou think Iâm not interested? Baby, Iâve imagined every version of you. Sarcastic. Half-dressed. Mud-covered. Covered in nothing but one of my shirts and bad intentions.â
Your ears go red.
âIâve had to apologize to my crew for zoning out during a sea battle because you accidentally had a fantasy about kissing someone else. I almost torched an island.â
You drop your entire egg basket this time. Gone, like your dignity.
You storm home.
Slamming the door behind you, you flop onto your bed and shout into a pillow,
 âSTOP DOING THAT!â
You hear him reply, far too smug,
âOnly if you stop pretending you donât want me to.â
You assumed he was a eunuch. Fair. No normal man could be that energetic, that unhinged, that relentless without sacrificing something vital. There was no way a person who routinely set himself on fire for fun had enough blood left in his body to maintain⌠well, anything.
Youâd once muttered aloudâafter a particularly violent surge of his soul-linked thoughts.
âIf this lunatic isnât a eunuch, Iâll eat my shoe.â
To which the voice responded, chipper as ever, âWell, hope itâs chocolate-flavored, sweetheart, because Iâm very much not a eunuch.â You rolled your eyes. Typical. Heâd flirt with a cactus. It didnât mean anything. But then, just after you bathed, exhausted and trying to sleep, he struck again.
The vivid mental image. Unsolicited. Graphic. Uncomfortably detailed. And so clear, it might as well have been seared directly onto the backs of your eyelids.
He wasnât just not a eunuch. He was⌠a menace.
âStill think Iâm not working, baby? Want me to describe how Iâd use my very functional anatomy, or do you want a slideshow? Actually, hang onâlet me tilt the angle. Youâre not appreciating the scale.â
You tried to block him. You really did. But Ace had never once been deterred by logic, shame, or psychic boundaries. If anything, he doubled down.
âHey, youâre the one who said I was built like a vending machine. Just thought Iâd show you the snacks.â
You hated him. You hated how hot he sounded.
Hated that he was now giving himself full permission to know just how feral he was.
âFive minutes, sweetheart.
He could do things if you just sat still for five minutes.
He says it like a threat. Like a promise. Like heâs been waiting.
And you know he means it. Because every time you try to ignore himâevery time you stubbornly pretend heâs not whispering sinful nonsense in your brainâhe doubles down.
âFive minutes, sweetheart. Thatâs all I need. No interruptions, no running, no sassing. Just you, breathless and mine.â
You scoffed at first. Called him delusional. Told him to go flirt with a rock.
But Ace?
Ace just purred.Â
âSee, look at how you're so pent up, baby. I told you. Five minutes, baby. Sit still, and Iâll show you what it feels like when someone actually knows you.â
His words crawl through your mind like fire, igniting every nerve. You try to push them away, but it's useless. Ace has never been one to leave you alone, not when heâs this determined.
Heâs not just talking. Heâs implying, and itâs maddening. You could feel it in the way he speaks, like every word is a thread pulling you closer to something you know youâre not ready for.
But god, part of you wonders if youâre wrong. What would it feel like to finally just give in? To stop pretending you arenât as affected as heâs been telling you?
Youâre teetering on the edge. One more push, and youâll fall.
The worst part? Youâre already halfway there.
âIâve been dreaming about you for years. Iâve had practice.â
Itâs maddening. Every time he gets quiet, you miss him. Every time he returns, you want to strangle him.
And now youâre terrified. Because someday, inevitably, youâre going to sit still. Just for five minutes.
And if thereâs one thing you are when youâre mad and emotionally cornered, itâs petty as hell. You ghosted this man for the sin of saying boobies. Now, for trying to mentally fondle yours? Youâre going nuclear.
So, you go on dates. Ace live-commentates them in your head like a sports announcer with ADHD.
âBro. His hands are sweaty. You gonna kiss that? Ask him who his favorite pirate is. If itâs not me, stab him. What is this guyâs deal with anchovies? Are you safe??â
-Branching Out?-
You tried. Honestly, you really tried.
But youâre done. Emotionally. Mentally. Hormonally.
Youâve spent your entire adolescence haunted by the gremlin thoughts of a pirate youâve never met. Youâve heard his opinions on soup, his guilty cries over cartoons, and more than one deeply concerning mental image involving rope.
So, you decideâquietly, pettily, desperatelyâthat youâre going to break the bond by seducing a perfectly nice, boring man with great shoulders and zero mess.
Everything is set.
Youâre wearing something cute but functional. Youâve got dinner plans. The guy is sweet. Polite. Zero war crimes. You even lit a candle, for atmosphere.
Youâre about to lean in and kiss him whenâ
âWHO THE FUCK IS THAT?!â
Aceâs voice slams into your skull like a full-volume spiritual airhorn.
You blink.
The nice man asks if youâre okay, looking at you like you might suddenly sprout a second head.
You smile. Politely. Internally, you are SCREAMING.
âNOPE. UNACCEPTABLE. THAT GUY LOOKS LIKE HE APOLOGIZES BEFORE HE CUMS. IS THIS BECAUSE I MENTIONED THE CRAB DREAM? YOU DONâT EVEN KNOW HIS MIDDLE NAMEâDOES HE EVEN HAVE ONE? WHAT IF ITâS TERRY?â
You try to push him out. Focus. The man touches your hand gently.
âI WILL SET HIM ON FIRE. I HAVE FIRE HANDS.â
You exhale slowly and say aloud, âPlease donât set him on fire.â
The man blinks. âWhat?â
âNothing.â
It is not nothing. It is a Sun God with no boundaries, loudly critiquing your sexual choices.
âI swear to GOD if he touches your waistband Iâm going to hex his bloodline into extinction.â
You try again. Focus.
The man leans forward. He kisses your neck. Itâs fine. Itâs⌠nice.
And in your head?
âI HOPE HE FALLS OFF A DOCK TOMORROW AND GETS STUNG BY A SPITEFUL SHRIMP. YOU DONâT EVEN LIKE HIS HAIR. YOUâRE JUST DOING THIS OUT OF SPITE. YOU MONSTER. PUT YOUR CLOTHES BACK ON BEFORE I WRITE A POEM ABOUT YOU OUT LOUD AND GET TATTOOED IN YOUR HONOR.â
The worst part?
Youâre laughing. On your own bed. At the same time, a very confused man is gently trying to undo your shirt.
He stops, blinking. âUh... are you... Okay?â
You wave him off. âItâs not you. Iâmâhaâjust mentally haunted.â
He leaves.Â
Kindly.Â
With a respectful bow (And possibly some trauma).
Two minutes later, Ace is smug and insufferable.
âSo. Virginity status: Intact. Thanks to me. You're welcome. Iâm a public service, honestly. Now that weâve established that, can you PLEASE just let me take care of this properly and not with whatever beige sponge you dragged out of the alleyway?â
You groan.
He whistles.
âThat better not have been a moan unless it was for me.â
You lie there glare at the ceiling, rage simmering.
âDonât be mad,â Ace said, smug and unrepentant. âItâs not my fault youâre mineâŚAnd if I have to monologue in your head for six hours straight to keep you from letting some weak-jawed idiot put his hands on you, I will. Seriously, babe. All Iâm asking is for you to wait until I can ruin you properly.â
You nearly screamed. Again.
And because you're a petty bitch with no control over things anymore, you decide to become mean. After all, itâs the only weapon left in your emotional arsenal.
You shut him out. Well, you try to. But you know itâs a cold war now. Itâs inevitable. And your first strike? Completely accidental. As you stew in your indignation, a thought slips outâjust a little too loud in your head.
âYouâre like a damn stray dog that canât stop following me. Youâre lucky I donât just leave you in the middle of the alley behind the Shimotsuki market and let the cats handle you.â You send a strong mental image of the said alley just to rub it in his face.
Thereâs a long, tense silence.
You feel something, but itâs so fleeting you canât quantify it until he doesnât reply.Â
Radio silence.
Youâve hurt his feelings.
You assumed he was pouting.
Which, to be fair, is on brand. He feels like the kind of man who would sulk about you not liking the exact ratio of buttons on his open shirt.
You told yourself you didnât care. You told yourself this was good. Mental distance was good. Silence was peace. You didnât need the constant horny peanut gallery in your brain, anyway.
You could finally focus. You could finally think.
You could finally wear skirts without worrying about mental commentary like: âBabe. That hemline? Youâre gonna cause weather.â
And because you're a certified bitch, you canât casually reach out. Thatâs what you tell yourself, anyhow.
You didnât know how to reach out. You didnât even want to. You just kept your mental door cracked open a titch and hoped he was somewhere being dramatic about the situation with a drink in hand.
But of course, thatâs not what happened.
-The Slip Up-
He was not pouting.
He was tracking you.
Because hereâs the thing. That little âalleywayâ verbal slap and mental image of a sad little garbage can? That wasnât just a mean thought. You hadnât realized it, but you had just transmitted an image of your direct location straight to him.
It was a soul-bond breadcrumb. A signal flare. A bullseye on your very mortal, very sexy location.
And Ace? Ace is a feral golden retriever with boobs radar and emotional tunnel vision.
The second you let that thought leak? He started sailing.
You donât know any of this.
Youâre still sitting there, pretending you donât care, when in reality, youâve unknowingly painted a target on yourself. You donât know that Ace, with his relentless persistence, is already closing in.
You have no idea that the moment your mental slip happened, he was already at the helm of his ship, grinning like a maniac.
And youâre still sitting there, blissfully unaware, believing that silence is your reluctant victory.
-Home Invasion-
A month later, he finally, finally speaks.
âHey.â
You donât answer. Is it because you were relieved and had tears in your eyes? Of course not, and if it were true, you wouldnât tell anyone. Of course, youâre outside, being a human being and trying to be normal, so you look like a loon.
You glance around the street like someoneâs going to see you talking to no one, looking like a total mess. You try to pull yourself together, pretending nothing's happening. Maybe youâre just a little shaken. But thatâs fine.
You grit your teeth. âWhat do you want, Ace?â
âYou mad I went quiet?â
You cross your arms in the street, and a grunt escapes. A small child asks her mother if your mad or constipated.
He laughs.
âNo worries,, babe, no hard feelings.â And there it is. That smug edge creeping back into his voice.
Your desire to punch him returns in full force.
And you can hear the grin before he says the next words.
âBet you missed me though.â
You can feel your eye twitching. This asshole. He's already won. Again.
âYouâre impossible.â
âAw, babe, thatâs sweet. I missed you too.â
You take a deep breath and hold back the mental floodgates.
You try to ignore the fact that your heartbeatâs a little faster than normal, that youâre fighting the urge to scream because you know what's coming.
He knows exactly what heâs doing. And it makes you want to throw your wallet at the wall and hope a racoon doesnât scurry off with it.
Then his next words drop like a bomb.
âYou know," he continues, voice oozing with smugness, "I was just busy, sweetheart. You know, tracking you. No big deal.â
You freeze. Your blood runs cold.
Your brain short-circuits.
Tracking you.
The reality hit you like a freight train, its weight crashing into your chest. You hadnât just let him know where you were with that stupid, careless mental slipâheâd been actively following your every move for a month. The very thought felt like youâd been exposed in ways you couldnât possibly come back from.
The worst part? You couldn't even fight it. You knew exactly what he meant. You knew. The heat of his gaze, the way his presence lingered like a shadow over your thoughts. It was all too familiar, too dangerous.
And it felt mortifying.
Youâd been trying to escape him, trying to block him out, yet all it took was a single slip-upâan image, a mental breadcrumbâand he was back, right where he wanted to be.
Without even realizing it, you screamed inside your head, âYOU'RE A FUCKING PSYCHOPATH.â
The laugh that followed reverberated through your mind, deep and smooth, like it had always belonged there.
âMissed you too, sweetheart.â
And thenâyou felt it before you saw him.
A heat, a wave that crashed against your skin like a sudden fever. The air seemed to shift. A flicker of danger, like lightning before the storm. It was that hurricaneâs grin, that sun-warmed sin, wrapping itself around you like an invisible tether. You didnât know whether to run or stay, but somehow, your feet were rooted to the ground.
And thenâ
âHey.â
You looked up, and the world seemed to pause.
There he was. Portgas D. Ace.
Tall. Sun-kissed skin that looked like it had been burned by more than just the sun. His shirt was partially undone, revealing just enough of his chest to make your heart skip a beat. It looked like a war crime in the making.
And somehow, somehow, he was even hotter in person.
You stood there, frozen for a moment, mouth half-open, like a cat caught peeing on the rug. Was this real? Were you really standing in front of him, the man who had haunted your thoughts for weeks, months? You tried to form a sentence, tried to speak, but all that came out was a breathless, â...You... Youâre real?â
That smirk. That all-knowing, impossibly smug smirk. He tilts his head.
âYou gonna say hi? Or just keep pretending you didnât hurt your own feelings more when youâre trying to hurt mine?â
Your brain short-circuits.
You attempt something vaguely resembling a sentence, but it comes out more like, âWhat the hell are youâhow did you evenâthis is illegal.â
He just smiles, all teeth and smugness.
âSoulmates, baby. And that pretty distinctive mental image you flung at me like a broom. Shimotsuki Market. Very unique. Very trackable.â
Youâre about to hurl somethingâanythingâat him, so you grab your wallet off your hip and throw it at him. It's a reflex, a desperate attempt to do something other than stand there like a dumbfounded idiot.
He catches it effortlessly. Not even a flinch. Not a hint of struggle. Just that damn smile, like heâs deeply pleased with himself, and unfortunately, his smugness is also hot.
You try to walk past him, determined to regain some semblance of control. But of course, he steps right in front of you, blocking your path without a second thought.
âYou ghosted me for years, babe. Years. I didnât even know if you had a face. Now you do. And itâs a really cute one. So. Hi.â
You freeze. The air between you crackles with tension. Every nerve in your body screams at you to run. But you donât.
You canât. Not when heâs standing there, blocking the way out, with that impossible grin plastered on his face like he owns the worldâand, apparently, your mind.Â
You want to hit him. Yell at him. But all you can manage is a shaky exhale, your pulse racing, your chest tight. You turn on your heel, desperate to escape, speedwalking back to some semblance of sanity. You shove past him, making it look like youâre in control.
âRude,â he mutters, his voice laced with amusement. âBut hot.â
You keep walking, determined. Youâre going to get out of here. But of course, he follows.
âYouâve got a cute limp when youâre mad. Did you know that? We should talk. Or fight. Or make out. Up to you.â
Your hands ball into fists. But you donât stop. You duck into the alley behind the shop, hoping the cramped space might give you an edge.
He follows you like a cursed Disney prince with a death wish. You whirl around, practically snarling.
âWhat do you want?â
He stops. The grin fades, just a little. He shrugs, casual, like he hasnât just been stalking you for a month. But itâs not casual. Itâs like heâs pulling back a little, trying to act nonchalant while wearing a smug look that says everything.
âI want you,â he says, his voice lowering. âI want to know your name. Your voice. What you actually sound like when youâre not yelling at me in your brain.â
For a split secondâjust oneâyou forget to be mad.
You forget you ever tried to run.
Youâre staring at him now, and for a brief moment, thereâs no anger, no desire to escape, just... him.
But then reality crashes back in.
And without thinking, you reach into your bag, grabbing the dried herbs youâve been carrying for no particular reason, and hurl a handful straight at his face. You donât even register what youâve done until theyâre in the air, the sharp scent of crushed rosemary and thyme filling the space between you.
You donât wait to see the result. You sprint. Your legs move faster than your thoughts, driven by a primal instinct to get away.
Behind you, you hear him cough. Then, his laughârich and dark, echoing through the alleyway. âYou really think you can outrun me?â
You donât answer. You donât even slow down. Youâre not scared; you're simply trying to outpace the impossible situation you've somehow found yourself in. Your heart pounds in your chest, each beat louder than the last. But the truth weighs heavily on you: you know you canât outrun him.
He laughs again. Itâs a sound that rumbles through the air, low and confident, like heâs enjoying every second of this chase. âYouâre gonna be so much fun.â
The words shoot through you like lightning, but you keep running, pushing your body faster, forcing yourself forward, through the winding streets, away from the port, desperate for a glimpse of safety.
But heâs already there, lurking just out of sight, like a shadow that follows no matter how fast you move.
You dodge down side alleys, weaving through crowds of strangers, your mind running through possible escape routes, trying to think ahead. You board random ships, desperate for anything that might carry you away from him. You even bribe a fruit vendor with a handful of coins, praying itâll distract him long enough for you to catch your breath.
And still, Ace finds you.
You dart into a nunnery, desperate for sanctuary, the heavy wooden doors slamming behind you like a barricade. You take a moment to collect yourselfâtwelve minutes, exactly, to hide in the silence. But when you peek outside, the inevitable happens.
Heâs standing at the nunneryâs threshold, his grin wide and unrepentant, as if heâs never been bothered by anything in his life. He looks like heâs enjoying this chase a little too much, like the mere fact that heâs found you is some twisted game heâs winning. The game where you run, and heâalwaysâfollows.
You round a corner in a port city two islands later and hear it.Â
âYou run real pretty, sweetheart.â
You freeze, your feet stumbling over one another. Your breath catches in your throat. The words feel like a punch to the gut, the sound of them lingering in your bones. You try to move, but your body betrays you. You trip over your own foot, slamming into a nearby barrel to catch yourself.
Then you spin around.
And there he is.
Ace. Leaning against a post, relaxed, shirt half-open like he doesnât have a care in the world. His sun-kissed skin glows in the warmth of the midday sun, freckles scattered across his chest like stars in a dark sky. The sunlight seems to conspire against you, highlighting every inch of him, making your breath hitch in your throat. Heâs effortlessly coolâeffortlessly here.
He doesnât move. Doesnât lunge. Doesnât need to. He just stands there, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips, looking at you like heâs already won.
âTired yet?â he asks, his voice as smooth as silk and just as dangerous.
You throw a rock at him. Itâs the only thing you can think to do.
He dodges it with ease, like heâs seen it coming a mile away. His smile only grows wider, smug and victorious. âNot even a little.â
Your pulse is thrumming in your ears, your muscles aching from the running, but you donât stop. You take off again, sprinting into the bustling marketplace. The vibrant colors of the stalls blur past you as you run faster, heart hammering against your ribs.
But heâs still right there.
He follows you, but itâs different now. Heâs not rushing. Heâs moving with the casual grace of a predator, strolling through the crowd like he owns it. His eyes never leave you, and you feel the weight of his gaze like a brand, marking you as his.
And then the worst part happens.
The locals start noticing. They cheer, like theyâre watching a game, their eyes tracking the two of you with growing excitement.
One woman shouts, âGET HER, PIRATE BOY!â
You wince, a knot tightening in your stomach as the crowd roars in approval. You canât outrun the attention now. Itâs everywhere. The eyes of the city are on you, and in a moment of absurd clarity, you realize theyâre rooting for him.
âGreat,â you mutter, grinding your teeth together, the sound of your frustration mingling with the chaotic scene unfolding around you.
Ace grins wider, clearly relishing the bedlam heâs created. The man never stops. Never slows.
Then someone starts placing bets. On you.
Great. Just great.
You vault over a fruit stand, your legs pushing you forward in a burst of desperate energy. Itâs not graceful, but youâre fastâtoo fast to think. You hear Ace whistle, his voice cutting through the noise like a blade.
âNice form. You always this athletic or is it just when youâre running from your problemsâmeâspecifically?â
You grit your teeth, ignoring the heat in your cheeks, and duck into a tavern kitchen, praying the staff are too busy to notice your disheveled, panicked entrance. The staff barely blinks as you slip past them, already halfway through the back door whenâ
He appears again.
Now heâs casually eating an apple, like he wasnât just doing parkour across balconies and dodging flying fruit. He takes a slow bite, watching you with that maddening, self-satisfied smile, as if nothing had happened.
He doesnât grab you this time. He doesnât need to.
He just traps you.
Heâs standing too close. That smileâsinful, smug, all-consumingâis never far from his lips.
âYou done?â he asks, his voice low, amused.
You glare up at him, your heart hammering in your chest, your pulse quickening with the weight of it all. âNo.â
He chuckles, a soft sound that crawls up your spine like heat. "Good."
And then, the moment youâve been dreading.
He leans in.
Itâs slow. Intentional. His breath brushes against your cheek. He whispers, his voice sliding against your ear like a stolen secret.
âKeep running if you want. I donât mind.â
You feel the weight of his words, pressing in like a warning.
âChasing youâs the most fun Iâve had in years.â
You freeze. For a moment, your knees go weak, and your brain short-circuits, like someoneâs cut the power to your mind. Youâre standing there, so close to him, your body fighting against every urge to lean in, to finally give in to the pull.
You almost kiss him. Out of spite. Out of sheer frustration. Almost.
Instead, you throw a spoon right into his face. It clangs loudly against his cheek, and you make a break for it, leaping through the window with as much grace as you can muster.
âWORTH IT!â he yells behind you, his voice loud and triumphant as it echoes down the alley.
You run. Because you canât stop. You wonât stop. Not until youâve lost him for good.
But in the back of your mind, thereâs something else. A tug. A pull. The taste of his words still lingering in your thoughts.
-CAUGHT-
By nightfall, heâs still following you. Somehow. Unbothered by your death glares, your total silence, or the fifteen attempts you made to accidentally lead him into thorn bushes. He compliments the flora. Bleeds cheerfully.
Youâre huffing, exhausted and borderline panicked, your legs aching from the constant running. You can feel your nerves fraying, the last vestiges of your patience worn thin. Youâve been at this for hours, your mind screaming at you to find a way to lose him, but no. There he is. Ten steps behind, like some kind of relentless golden retriever on a leash, with that insufferable, charming grin plastered on his face.
Ace looks pristine. The dirt doesnât seem to cling to him. His hairâs a little tousled, sure, but itâs still perfect. His skin glows in the low light, and you can practically see the smugness radiating off him, his eyes dancing like heâs having the time of his life.
âYouâre picturing me naked again, huh?â he says, his voice like molten honey, lazy and confident. âThatâs the third time today. Just say the word, babe, and Iâll come up shirtless and apologetic.â
You growl low in your throat, gritting your teeth as you quicken your pace. This is not happening.
âOh no,â he whispers in your mind, his voice slipping through like silk, dangerously smooth. âWas that... foreplay?â
You did not justâŚ
The rage inside you flares, hot and violent, and you snap, throwing a rock at him. Itâs the first thing you can grab, and the action is pure, unrefined anger.
You watch it sail through the air, and youâre almost satisfied with the aim, the sound of it connecting with him. But then you realize something.
He let it hit him.
You stand there, frozen in place, while he groans from the dirt, propping himself up on one elbow, still grinning like a damn idiot. And you, for some unknown reason, feel terrible.
Heâs laughing.
âYou know,â he says, brushing the dust off his clothes like this is the most fun heâs ever had, âIâve gotta hand it to you, babe. Youâve got a hell of a right hook. Still hot as fuck though.â
You say nothing. Your brain has blue-screened. Youâre physically incapable of processing this absurdity, this entire situation that youâve been dragged into.
âYouâreâwow. Youâre stunning. And youâre standing there. And youâre not yelling at me or hating me or vanishing into mist.â
Still nothing. Your dignity is buffering, on its last thread. He blinks, his smile widening even more, if thatâs even possible.
âUnless you are mist. I did hit my head pretty hard. Are you mist?â
You force the words out, your throat feeling dry. âNo. Just disappointed.â
His grin widensâwidens. Like heâs won something.
âOh, thank god. That sounds like you.â
You try. You really try to stay composed, but he stands up, all sun-kissed skin and scars, the epitome of absolute menace. You feel your soul leave your body with a little âwhooshâ noise. And then, like heâs really not going to let you have any peace, he pulls a small, slightly squished bouquet from his pocket.
âI brought flowers,â he says, holding them out to you with an innocent grin that makes you want to scream. âSat on them a bit during the fall. But theyâre yours. Please accept them and also my eternal devotion.â
You take the flowers. Your hands are trembling, and you hate it.
You hate that youâre standing here, accepting flowers from this ridiculous, insufferable man. But, God, you hate even more that heâs standing there looking like a golden retriever with a heart the size of the sunâhot, fire-punching, fate-cursed, sweet as hell.
And worst of all? You hate that you like it.
You hate that you might even like him. Because, unfortunately, heâs a cutie. A dumb, fire-punching, fate-cursed cutie. And youâre just so screwed.
You flee, again.
Not in the dramatic, cloak-flapping, âI shall vanish into the mistâ way you always thought youâd flee your soulmateâno, itâs more like a dignified power walk with panicked footnotes. You grab your satchel, muttering something about needing air, and fast-walk directly into the woods, hoping that the isolation of nature might give you a temporary reprieve from the storm of chaotic thoughts in your head.
But youâre not prepared for the soft voice behind you.
âWant me to carry that?â
You stop in your tracks. You turn, and there he is, right there, as if heâd materialized from the very forest around you. His freckles glow in the dying light, shirt offensively open like heâs trying to challenge every ounce of your self-control. The flowersâcrumpled and hopelessâare still in your hand. And the other is already reaching for your bag like this is just a casual joint grocery run, not a soul-rupturing disaster.
âNo,â you say firmly, pulling the satchel closer to you like it contains the last remnants of your common sense.
âRight,â he nods, unfazed. âEmotional support bag. Got it.â
You start walking again, forcing yourself to keep your pace. Your legs carry you with a tension that suggests both urgency and defeat.
And, of course, he walks beside you. Casually. Like this is just another walk in the park, like he hasnât just smashed through a tree, declared eternal devotion, and handed you mashed flowers. Like this is his first time seeing your face, even though it feels like the most significant moment of your life.
He hums, lazily surveying the woods around you. âNice woods. Quiet. Great for internal screaming.â
You grit your teeth, trying to ignore him, but the temptation to throw him off the trail and let your frustration explode is too great.
âYou should leave,â you say, half as a request, half as a warning.
âI know,â he responds, too casually. âBut I wonât.â
You glance at him, unimpressed. âThatâs called stalking.â
âThatâs called fate,â he replies, totally unbothered. âAlso, Iâm very polite about it.â
You open your mouth, about to argue, when he cuts you off, adding with a teasing smirk, âI brought snacks.â
You close your mouth, your will to argue draining out of you like sand through your fingers.
The two of you walk in silence, the tension thick but oddly comfortable, until you finally reach your small cabin. You stop, spin around, and give him a dramatic flourish meant to intimidateâone last attempt at asserting some control.
âYou are not staying here.â
âI accept your terms,â he says, already ducking through the doorway as though itâs his place now. âGreat porch. Would die here.â
He pauses, looks at you, and for a split second, the smug grin fades. His expression softens, just a touch.
âNot that Iâm planning to,â he adds, and something about the sincerity behind those words makes your chest ache.
You stand there, rooted to the spot, feeling like you're losing a battle you didnât even know you were fighting. Because no matter how many times you tell him to leave, every inch of him belongs here.
-Emotional Turning Point-
He fits himself into your life like he was always meant to be your super handsome supporting male lead, living on the fringes of your porch and decency.
Youâre not sure how he does it; how Ace, with all his chaos and charm, has somehow managed to worm his way into your routine, making himself right at home without even trying. But there he is, lounging in that damn chair by your door, making himself part of your world with a grin that says heâs here to stay. Heâs everywhere. Leaning in the doorway, poking his head through the window, eating snacks with that infuriatingly content grin on his face.
Itâs not that you invited him in. Not really. But itâs almost like he was always meant to be a part of this life, somehow. You canât get rid of him, andâgoddammitâyou donât want to.
Every time you try to get some peace, there he is, leaning casually against the doorframe with an offhand comment that somehow worms its way under your skin. He feels like your life now, like some permanent addition, wrapped in the scent of summer and smoke, never asking for permission, always managing to make you feel like youâre the one whoâs been missing something.
And it drives you crazy. But not the bad kind of crazy. The kind where youâre frustrated because you donât want to admit you like this new reality.
He's also so kind. So genuinely good in a way that makes you want to rip your own heart out for how much youâre falling for it. He doesnât just show up with a smug grin and a million dumb comments. Though, hell, he does plenty of that too, but thereâs something in the way heâs just⌠there.
The way he notices the little things. The way he makes sure youâve eaten, even when you try to hide it. The way he doesnât just barge in but waits for you to ask, like he knows when to push and when to let you breathe. And the most infuriating part? He does it without expecting anything in return. Heâs not keeping score. Heâs not holding anything over your head. He just⌠cares.
Which is how, eventually, you find yourself giving in. You tell yourself itâs because thereâs no other place for him to sleep. He canât keep taking the porch chair, itâs too awkward. You tell yourself itâs because heâs not that bad, right? Heâs harmless, right? Maybe having him in the guest room wonât be so terrible.
But you know the truth. You know youâve softened. Youâve seen the way he looks at you when youâre frustrated, the way he listens without interrupting. Youâve caught him quietly fixing the little things you forget; your broken door lock, the pile of laundry youâve been meaning to fold. And youâve realized, with a sickening sense of vulnerability, that youâve let him in.
The guest room? That was just the final step. Youâre a pathetic push-over, no denying it.
Because now heâs there. In your home. In your life. Not just as the irritating golden retriever you thought he was, but as the person who somehow made himself indispensable.
You snort, unable to hold back the laughter, the absurdity of it all finally catching up with you.
Ace beams beside you, that ever-present, infectious smile stretching across his face as if heâs just made the greatest revelation of all time. The night settles into a quiet rhythm, the tension from the past moments fading as he settles himself into your life like itâs the most natural thing in the world.
And Ace?Â
Ace stays.
He stays in the most inconvenient, inconveniently endearing way possible. His presence weaving itself into the fabric of your day like a persistent, sun-warmed thread that refuses to be untangled. No matter how much you try to brush him off, heâs there, in the most Ace way imaginable: full of warmth, full of disarray, full of ridiculousness.
And then, of course, he decides to hit you with it.
He tells you who his father is exactly one week after deciding not to die for vengeance and two days after setting your entire pantry on fire trying to toast bread with his hands. Youâre crouched by the pantry door, diligently trying to patch up the mess heâs made, when he flops down beside you with that same blissful grin, the one that promises youâll never know a momentâs peace.
âBy the way,â he says, his voice smooth and casual, âmy dad was the Pirate King.â
You freeze.
You donât respond immediately. Instead, you slowly lower the patching materials, every muscle in your body tensing in complete shock.Â
The pause feels like an eternity.
Then, ever so slowly, you turn your head to face him. Heâs still looking at you like heâs dropped a bombshell, waiting for the reaction. You blink once. Twice. And then, to his evident surprise, you simply say, âOkay.â
His eyebrows shoot up. âOkay?â
âYeah,â you repeat, your voice steady, your expression a carefully controlled mask. âOkay.â
He opens his mouth, like heâs about to say something else, but then he hesitates. âLike⌠you donât care?â
You take a deep breath, trying to recalibrate your thoughts. âDo you steal children?â you ask, your voice flat, as though thatâs the most important thing in the world right now.
âNo,â he answers, confused but amused.
âDo you bring Marines to my door?â
âAbsolutely not.â
You sigh, feeling the tension in your chest finally begin to loosen. âThen I donât care if youâre the son of the Pirate King, a dragon, or the sea itself with legs. Just stop bathing in front of me.â
Ace makes a sound, like a duck being struck by lightning, eyes widening with exaggerated innocence. âThat was ONE TIME.â
âIt was yesterday.â
âI thought you were asleep!â
âYou were singing.â You throw a wet cloth at his face without even looking at him, too tired to care about how ridiculous this is. âAlso,â you add, as you wipe off the dust from your hands, âyou have a birthmark. Not that I meant to see it. But it exists. And it is shaped like a banana.â
âOH MY GOD.â
He screams into the rag, the sound muffled and exaggerated, but it only makes you feel more at ease.
You keep working, the soft smile on your lips betraying the amusement youâre trying so hard to hide. You do care.
You care about the way he burns toast but guards your garden like itâs a castle. The way he talks in his sleep, thinking no one can hear him, and makes enough food for two even when you insist youâre fine on your own. The way he tried to give you his favorite dagger like it was a friendship braceletâlike you were meant to have it.
But you donât care who his father is.
That man is dead.
Ace is alive.
And in the end, it doesnât matter who his bloodline is. What matters is the idiot sitting beside you, grinning like heâs won the lottery and setting fire to his shirt trying to impress you by flexing in the sun. The one who, despite all the madness, somehow makes you feel like this chaotic, unexpected life is exactly what you need.
You might be losing the battle, but youâre definitely winning the war.
Ace knew he didnât have a chance the first time he heard you spoke, and frankly, heâs never been one to deny fate.
Ace is the kind of guy who falls fast, and hard. And over simple things. Itâs not a grand speech that changes him. Not a fight, not a dramatic stand in the rain, not a desperate plea to spare himself.
Itâs something much worse.
You do absolutely nothing.
You make tea. You sweep the porch. You hang up wet laundry with that same quiet, suspicious side-eye youâve been giving him since he crash-landed into your life like a shirtless meteor of emotional disorder. You donât flirt. You donât cry. You donât tell him not to go. You just exist.
Like youâve done for years, on the edge of war and wonder. Quiet. Clever. Alive.
And Ace?
He shatters.
Because now that heâs here, now that he knows your smile in real time and not just as a phantom curl behind his thoughts, now that he knows how you brew tea when you're nervous and fake a snort-laugh when you're amused and sleep with one hand under your pillow like you're still ready to flee.
He realizes something awful.
He doesnât want to die anymore.
And if he goes after Blackbeard alone, thatâs exactly what will happen.
So one night, while youâre bent over your little garden, muttering at a weed like it owes you money, he sits on the porch with his legs dangling over the side. The moon makes him look soft. Barefoot. Real.
He says, casually, like itâs nothing:
âIâm not gonna go.â
You donât look up. Your hands are busy, pulling the stubborn weed from the soil, but you can feel the weight of his words like a distant thunderclap.
âGo where?â
âAfter Teach. Not alone.â He scratches at his hair, a rare softness in his voice. âI was gonna. I thought I had to. But then you made soup. And yelled at the laundry. And looked at me like I was a half-cracked egg someone left in the sun too long.â
You donât give him the satisfaction of an immediate response. You just finish pulling the weed from the ground and set it aside, carefully, as if thereâs a cosmic balance you donât want to disturb.
âThat was not a look of affection,â you say dryly, still not meeting his eyes.
âI know,â he grins, that damn grin that always makes your chest tighten. âBut it made me realize I want to come back. I want someone to come back to.â
You stare at him now. Really stare.
And you see it.
Portgas D. Ace, fire-fist terror of the seas, Whitebeardâs reckless son, walking natural disaster.
Heâs sitting still. And choosing to just live.
For himself. For his crew. And, impossibly, for you.
âI told Marco,â he says, quieter now, his voice almost unrecognizable with the vulnerability slipping through. âLet someone else bring him in. Or all of us. Iâm not rushing into a trap because I want to feel like I deserve punishment. I donât want to prove anything anymore.â
You blink. His words hit you like a wave, but the truth of it doesn't settle immediately.
âSo youâre just... not dying?â You ask, the question slipping out without meaning to.
âApparently,â he shrugs, still with that casual bravado he carries around like armor. âReal inconvenient. Iâd emotionally prepped for a tragic death arc.â
You finally meet his eyes, watching as his smile falters just a little, just enough to let you see the weight heâs been carrying. And you realize, in that moment, youâre no longer looking at the man who sought death to prove something. Youâre looking at a man who finally decided that maybe he deserves to live.
For the first time, Ace isnât running. He isnât running from his past, from his fate, or from the bedlam inside him.
Heâs sitting still.
And that, in its own way, is the bravest thing heâs ever done.
You donât say anything. You donât need to. The silence between you is more than enough.
And as he sits there, beside you, in the quiet of your little garden and under the soft glow of the moon, you knowâwithout a shadow of a doubtâthat Ace has made his choice.
Heâs not dying for the sake of others anymore. Not for revenge, not for the memory of his father, not for any grand ideal.
Heâs living. For himself. And, maybe, just maybe... for you too.
And for the first time, it feels like the weight of it all. His choices, his fate, the chaotic spiral heâs been trapped in has shifted. Itâs lighter now, and somehow, so are you.
-The Climax-
The thing about being in loveâactually in loveâand having a soulmate who shares not just their heart, but their food, their dreams, and their increasingly unhinged commentary on everything from ocean weather to crab mating habits, is that eventually⌠you just give in.
You commit to the idea.
Not quietly. Not with grace. But with a dramatic, full-body sigh, hands thrown to the heavens like, âFine, FINE, I guess Iâll be in love with you, you ridiculous golden retriever of a man.â
And that would be fine.
If he wasnât so good at making you mad.
It starts innocently, as it always does, with Ace just being himself. Fixing broken stuff around your ship cabin without being asked. Replacing your rickety chair with one he definitely stole from somewhere nicer. Quietly fixing your shoes with leftover leather scraps. Roasting fish at sunrise and pretending itâs not for you, even though he offers the best cuts.
Which would be sweet. If he didnât leer when you thanked him. If he didnât lean in like, âSee? Youâd miss me if I died.â
Or worse.
âYou like me.â
And the worst part? Heâs not wrong.
You do like him.
You like the way he absentmindedly hums when the sea is calm. The way he throws himself between danger and his crew without hesitation. The way he frowns when your hands are cold and warms them between his palms without comment. The way he talks about you to others, thinking youâll never hear.
(You always hear. The bond makes sure of it.)
So when he saunters up, shirt undone, grin weaponized, holding a handmade seashell hairpin like he didnât just crawl out of the ocean like a romantic cryptid, you lose it. Heâs always is taller than you realize, and broader too. All sun-kissed skin, tousled black hair, freckles like spilled sugar, and that damn grinâlazy, lethal, and soaked in the smug knowledge that heâs been living in your head rent-free for years.
You get mad.
Not annoyed. Not flustered.
Mad.
That soul-warming, spine-tingling, irrational kind of fury that only one person in the world can summon from the depths of you just by existing.
Because how dare he.
How dare he worm his way into your life with that lazy grin and those too-soft glances when he thinks youâre not looking. How dare he make your heart thunder like a war drum just by standing there, shirt half-buttoned, freckles glowing like sin under the sun. How dare he knowâknowâhow to soothe your anger and ignite it in the same breath.
And thatâs when it happens.
That sharp inhale. That white-hot glare. That moment of eye contact held just a second too long.
He tilts his head. Smirks. You see it in his eyes; the gleam, the silent countdown to disaster. You know that look. Thatâs the look that means he's about to say something so stupidly hot it could derail your life and you'd still thank him for the wreckage.
You take a step back, instinctively.
He steps forward, all loose limbs and barely restrained heat, the picture of someone whoâs already won.
âRun,â he says, voice all honey and heat, âand Iâll catch you.â
You snap.
You lunge. Not for anything romanticâno. For a punch. A real one. Right to that smug, pretty face.
You miss.
He doesnât.
He catches your wrist like he was waiting for it, like he dreamed of this moment. His fingers curl around yours, warm and unshakable. You meet his gaze, ready to spit fire.
But he beats you to it.
âYouâre everything,â he breathes, low and cracked. Like it hurts. Like itâs truth against his ribs. âOh no. Iâm so in love with you. Iâm gonna ruin everything.â
You should run.
But your knees betray you, turning soft and stupid like seafoam on a summer shore. Your heartbeat hammers in your ears, drowning out every sensible thought. And thenâoh godsâhe leans in, close enough for you to smell salt and smoke, and his fingers thread through your hair. He murmurs something too dirty for daylight, and thatâs it.
Youâre gone.
âFive minutes,â you rasp, voice ragged with want and fury. âThatâs all you get. Bring the fire or shut up.â
What follows is not logical. Or polite.
The next thing you know, youâre in his lap, breathless and burning, yelling, âThis is your fault!â while your hands twist in his hair like youâre trying to strangle the ocean. And heâs laughingâlaughingâlike he just robbed the world blind and left the moon as payment.
âThis is a mistake,â you growl.
He grins, eyes glittering like treasure. âThen letâs make it twice.â It starts with sass. Sharp words. Quicker hands. Your teeth graze his jaw. His lips find your pulse. Buttons scatter.Â
But it escalates the second you grab a fistful of his hair and hiss, âI swear to god, if you laughââ
And then, he moans.
You both freeze.
The silence is electric.
You stare at him. He stares at you. Your hand twitches, about to retreat.
He growls. Low. Deep. Dangerous.
âOh,â he says, voice wrecked with sudden hunger. âOh, weâre doing this now.â
He leans in. Breath warm against your ear.
âYou like pulling hair? Thatâs cute.â His grin splits wide.âI like begging. Guess weâre both gonna be real happy tonight.â
What follows is a blur of limbs, heat, curses, and catastrophic choices. The kind of night you survive by setting fire to every good intention and riding the wreckage down together.
Your lips crash into his like a curse, a surrender, a choice. And gods help you, he kisses like he thinks you belong to him. Because you do.
Clothes come off. Fast. Probably ruined. You donât care.
Your lips crash into his like a curse, a confession, a final surrender. Like youâve been holding back the tide of him for years and nowânow, finallyâyouâre letting it pull you under.
And gods help you, he kisses like a man who already knows.
Knows your mouth. Knows your breath. Knows the exact way you melt when someone touches you like a secret instead of a prize.
He tastes like heat and salt and promise. His hands are already on you; hot, greedy, reverent. Calloused palms splaying across your back like he's checking youâre real.
Clothes come off in flashes. Fast. Desperate. Buttons pop. A seam tears. His shirt gets tossed somewhere near the door and yours doesnât survive the landing. He kisses the swell of your chest with something close to awe and mutters something that makes your toes curl.
You donât care about the bed. You barely register hitting it. You only notice him, solid and searing and all over you.
Ace doesnât hesitate. He doesnât second-guess. Every touch is sure. Every sigh you give him maps a path he already seems to know by heart.
And then he really starts.
And you forget how to breathe.
His stamina is, frankly, criminal. You lose track of time. Of position. Of your own name. You understand why other pirates donât attack him without backup.
At one point, you're clutching at the sheets like they might save you. At another, you're biting his shoulder because apparently youâve lost the capacity for language. Everything is hot and blurred and so good you could cry. You consider it. Then he bites your ear and you do.
You finally gasp, half-laughing, half-accusing: âOkayâokay, what the hell. Youâve done this before.â
He just grins, stupid and perfect and way too pleased with himself. âNope,â he says, rolling his hips slow and smug, âIâve just had years of theoretical training.â
You blink up at him, dazed. â...What?â
âOn you, sweetheart.â He leans down, mouth against your throat. âYou think I havenât been preparing? Please. Iâve studied. Iâve visualized. I had flashcards.â
Your brain misfires. Your body, meanwhile, is betraying you entirely.
âI hate you,â you whisper hoarsely.
âMmm,â he hums, mouth dragging over your shoulder like a satisfied wolf. âSure you do. Hate me with your thighs again.â
By the time your soul returns from orbit, youâre sprawled across the mattress like a saint mid-apocalypse. Your body feels like itâs been lovingly struck by lightning. Repeatedly. You manage a weak sound. Heâs already draping a blanket over you with far too much tenderness for a man who just detonated your nervous system.
Eventually, you fall asleep.
Or black out.
Probably both
You wake up warm. Sated. And very, very naked in his arms.
You stretch, blink blearily, then pause.
Somethingâs wrong.
You are on a ship. The ship is moving.
You sit up too fast and nearly topple over. Ace hums behind you, still half-asleep. âMm. Morninâ, baby.â
ââŚWas this five minutes?â you croak.
He yawns, kisses your shoulder. âNah. Five was just to start.â
You scramble to sit up, fully panicking now, but he tugs you back down with one strong arm and starts kissing your neck like itâs not an international crime that you are being lovingly detained.
âDonât bother,â he mumbles. âYouâre not going anywhere.â
You blink. âAm I⌠kidnapped?â
He shrugs, completely unbothered. âLetâs call it an extended honeymoon. With, like, minor hostage vibes.â
You hiss. He kisses your jaw. You slap his chest. He grins. You try to stay mad. You do.
But when he pulls you into his arms again, presses his forehead to yours and murmurs in your ear.
âWeâre gonna make such a good team.â
Cue full body shiver shutdown.
You stop trying.
And somehow?
You donât even want to escape.

Cosmic Joke Status: FlambĂŠed
Youâre now stuck with a flammable himbo who doesnât knock, doesnât think ahead, and would 100% commit arson for you just because someone looked at you funny.
And the worst part?
Youâre starting to like it.Â
(Especially the part where he growls at people who flirt with you, like a very polite junkyard dog with abs.)

The sun blazed high over the open sea, casting golden light across the deck of the Moby Dick. The battle was well underway â a scrappy band of pirates had made the monumental mistake of challenging the Whitebeard Pirates. Bad for them. Good for everyone else who needed a bit of exercise.
You ducked under a wild swing from some random enemy pirate, spun on your heel, and delivered a solid punch to his gut. He crumpled with a satisfying oof.
"Oi! Y/N!" Thatch shouted from a few feet away, grinning like a maniac, a strange fruit in his hand. "Check this out!"
You sliced another pirate across the side with your blade (nothing fatal, you were feeling merciful today) and jogged over.
"What did you find this time?" you asked, breathing hard, a spark of excitement lighting your eyes.
Ace clambered over a fallen mast to join you. "Yo, Thatch, whatcha got?"
Thatch held the thing out like it was a newborn kitten. The fruit was round and black with swirling violet patterns, almost like the night sky had been trapped inside it.
"I found something interesting," he said proudly.
Ace squinted. "Ohhh... is that a Devil Fruit?"
You leaned closer. "Looks like one. Wonder what it does."
Behind you, a presence stiffened. You glanced over your shoulder.
Teach â good ol' big, laughing Teach â was standing there, his usual grin stretched way too tight. His forehead was shiny with sweat despite the easy fight. When he noticed you looking, he barked out a laugh that didnât reach his eyes.
"Heh! Devil Fruit, huh? Zehahaha! Who knows? Maybe it's a lame one, like making your farts turn into explosions!"
Ace snorted. "Wouldn't put it past the sea."
You shook your head, laughing, not noticing the way Teachâs hands clenched at his sides.
That night, the Moby Dick was peaceful. The waves lapped lazily against the hull. Most of the crew was sprawled across the deck or below, snoring, laughing, or drinking.
You had just curled up in your hammock when a strange noise cut through the stillness.
Scuffle.
You bolted upright, instincts screaming. Without a second thought, you grabbed your weapon and padded silently toward the sound.
Your heart dropped into your stomach.
There, in the dim lantern light, was Teach â stabbing Thatch through the side.
"Teach?!" you gasped.
Thatch grunted, struggling, but Teach was too strong. His eyes were wild, desperate, like a man possessed.
Without hesitation, you leapt into action.
"THAT'S ENOUGH! TEACH! HOW DARE YOU!?" you roared, slamming into Teach with everything you had.
The two of you crashed into the deck. Your blade flashed; Teach snarled and swung a fist, and you met it with a grimace, blocking the worst of the blow. It was chaos â wood splintered under your feet as you battled, the sounds waking a few of the closer crewmates.
But Teach was slippery. He was fighting like a man who had nothing left to lose, and with one last shove, he pushed you back, making you stumble.
Your foot caught the edge of a broken beam, and before you could react, Teach's fist landed squarely on the side of your head. The world spun instantly, your vision going blurry as the impact sent you crashing to the ground.
âY/N!â Thatch cried weakly from where he was still slumped, blood dripping from his side.
You blinked hard, trying to regain your senses. A searing pain throbbed in your head, and the edges of your vision blurred even further. You could barely hear anything over the ringing in your ears as your body felt like it was on fire.
Just as you tried to push yourself up, Teach took his chance, grabbing the mysterious fruit from Thatchâs weakening grip. His sinister laugh filled the night air as he turned and bolted into the shadows, vanishing before anyone could stop him.
You couldnât chase him.
Your body was failing you.
With a grunt, you collapsed to the floor, dizziness consuming you. Your world tilted, everything spinning as blood pooled beneath you. The last thing you heard was the frantic sound of footsteps.
.
.
When you cracked your eyes open, it was to the blinding white of the infirmary ceiling. Everything hurts, your head hurts.
The room was filled with silence, save for the steady beeping of the heart monitor beside the bed. Marco sat slumped forward, elbows on his knees, head bowed in exhausted vigilance. He hadnât left your side in days â barely eating, barely sleeping. Even Ace, who was normally a ball of chaotic energy, was quieter than a graveyard at midnight, sitting against the wall and anxiously tossing a small ball between his hands.
Then, finally, the miracle happened.
You groaned.
Marco was upright so fast he nearly knocked over the chair. "Y/N?!"
Your eyes fluttered open, squinting against the light. Slowly, you turned your head, taking in the sight of Marco â disheveled, wide-eyed, hopeful â and Ace, who had shot to his feet, mouth hanging open in disbelief.
You blinked a few times. A mischievous thought bubbled up. You couldn't resist. Then you tilted your head in confusion.
"...Who are you?" you rasped, your voice hoarse from disuse.
The world froze.
Marco actually stumbled back a step, his mouth parting in horror. "W-What?"
Ace dropped the ball he'd been tossing â it hit the floor with a pathetic little bounce. "No way," he muttered, eyes wide as saucers.
You frowned, genuine confusion painted across your features. "Where am I? What happened? Are you... my doctors?"
Marco choked on air. "Doctors?! w-well, I am! but..." His voice cracked, his wings briefly puffing out in shock. "Y/Nâit's me! It's Marco-yoi!"
You gave him a pitying, bewildered look, like he was some delusional lunatic. "I'm sorry, I... I don't know any 'Marco.'"
Ace ran a hand down his face, whispering to himself, "Oh my god, oh my god, Pops is gonna kill us."
Marco dropped to his knees by the bed, panic etched into every sharp line of his face. "Y/N, please, listen! It's me! Youâyou always called me 'birdbrain'! Remember? And Aceâhe's the loud one! You always yell at him!-yoi"
You gave a tiny, skeptical squint at Ace. "He does look like he yells a lot," you mumbled thoughtfully.
Ace put a hand over his heart, wounded. "Hey!"
"Y/N..." Marco reached for your hand, his own trembling. "Please tell me you're joking."
You pulled your hand away, shrinking back against the pillows dramatically. "S-sir!, I don't even know you! Why are you touching me?!"
Ace looked between you and Marco, starting to sweat buckets. "She really doesn't remember us?! Oh my godâI'm not ready to raise someone! I can barely keep my plants alive!"
Marco paled. "Ace, this isn't about raisingâ"
"We'll have to teach her everything again!" Ace wailed. "How to walk! How to talk! Oh noâdo you even remember how to eat?"
You blinked at him, deadpan. "I don't know... can you show me?"
Ace immediately picked up a banana from a nearby fruit basket and started dramatically demonstrating how to eat it, like some crazed tutorial video.
"First you PEEL it," he said loudly, yanking the peel down and waving it in your face. "Then you put the FOOD PART in your MOUTHâ"
"Enough!" Marco barked, his voice cracking with desperation.
He turned back to you, gripping the edge of the mattress. His eyes were so blue and so full of heartbreak that you nearly cracked right there.
"Y/N..." he whispered, voice raw. "Even if you don't remember me... I'll stay with you. I'll protect you until you remember. I swear it."
Your throat tightened.
You stared at him for a long, tense moment.
Then you cracked a wicked smile.
"...Dumbass," you wheezed, voice croaky but full of teasing mischief. "Of course I remember you, pineapple head!"
The silence was so thick you could hear a pin drop.
Ace's banana hit the floor.
Marco stared at you, eyes wide, processing... and then, "WHAT?!"
You burst into a fit of raspy laughter, clutching your sides painfully. "Oh my god, the LOOK on your faceâ!" you cackled, tears forming at the corners of your eyes.
"You littleâ!" Marco sputtered, half lunging at you and half hugging you at the same time.
"You should've seen yourselves!" you wheezed. "Ace was about to teach me how to chew!"
Ace pointed an accusing finger at you. "You gave me a heart attack, Y/N! I was ready to start teaching you object permanence!"
Marco collapsed onto the side of the bed, groaning into your blanket. "I can't believe you did that-yoi. I was ready toâ!" His voice broke again.
You smiled softer now, reaching out and brushing his messy blond hair back from his face. "I'm sorry, Marco... couldn't resist. You were just too easy."
He lifted his head, cheeks flushed slightly, a trembling smile forming. "You're the worst," he said hoarsely, voice thick with relief.
"And you love me for it," you teased.
"...Yeah," he whispered back, no hesitation at all.
You blinked.
Your heart fluttered.
Ace, oblivious as usual, was still dramatically re-enacting how he was going to "re-educate" you with flashcards and alphabet songs in the background. You and Marco stared at each other, soft and quiet amidst the chaos, and for a moment, the world was right again.
You were safe. You were alive. You were home.
.
.
Later, once the fuss had died down (and Ace had finally been dragged off to sleep), you found yourself summoned to Whitebeardâs quarters.
The old man sat on his throne-like chair, the steady pulse of his IV a soft, constant background noise.
"You fought well, little one," Whitebeard said, his voice rumbling like distant thunder. His gaze was heavy, serious. "But you were lucky."
You nodded, bowing your head respectfully.
"Teach..." you began.
Whitebeardâs eyes narrowed.
"He was after that fruit," you said grimly. "It wasnât random. He knew what it was. And if he went so far as to attack Thatch, his own crewmate..." You shook your head. "He's dangerous. More dangerous than we realized."
Whitebeard grunted, the sound low and displeased.
"A traitor among my sons," he murmured, anger flashing in his gaze. "We will hunt him down."
You hesitated. "He has the Yami Yami no Mi now. I don't know much about it, but I saw enough. That fruit... it's not normal. His powerâ"
"âWill be immense," Whitebeard finished.
You nodded grimly.
There was a long silence.
"You did well protecting your brother," Whitebeard said at last, his expression softening. "Rest now. Heal. We have a long road ahead."
You bowed again and left, heart heavy but determined.
When you returned to the infirmary, Marco was there, perched like a golden phoenix on the edge of the bed.
He looked up, immediately easing when he saw you.
"Hey, yoi," he said softly.
You didnât say anything. Instead, you limped over and, without asking, slid onto the bed beside him.
Marco froze, startled â and then melted, wrapping an arm carefully around your shoulders so you didnât jostle your injuries.
For a while, you just lay there, breathing together.
Finally, you spoke, voice quiet against his chest.
"Thank you."
He tilted his head down, puzzled. "For what-yoi?"
"For staying," you murmured. "For talking to me even when I couldnât answer. For calling me back."
Marcoâs throat bobbed as he swallowed hard.
"You heard me?" he whispered.
"Every word," you said, smiling faintly. "Even when I was somewhere dark... you were there."
Marco closed his eyes, pressing his forehead to yours.
"You scared me so bad," he whispered, voice raw. "I thought I'd lost you-yoi"
"You didnât," you promised.
He kissed your forehead, the gentlest brush of lips, barely a touch.
"Iâm not going anywhere," you said.
Marco smiled â a real one, full of love and hope and lingering fear.
"Good," he said, pulling you closer. "Because Iâm not letting you out of my sight-yoi."
You chuckled softly, your heart full despite the pain.
"Guess you're stuck with me," you teased.
"Wouldnât have it any other way," Marco said against your hair.
And for the first time since everything had gone to hell, you felt truly safe.
Sorry if the tone near the end doesn't quite match the rest of the fic something happened in the middle of me writing it and like all good writers do I used this as an emotional outlet. But hey, who doesn't want Marco to hold them amirite? This was meant to be shorter, but the rest of the crew hijacked it like the pirates they were.
Phoenix Marco x Reader (fluff, near-death experiences, dash of sickfic & hurt/comfort)
As the unofficial âFixer-Upperâ, the jack-of-all-trades of the Whiteboard Pirates with a helpful Devil Fruit to boot, you tend to overwork yourself helping any issues that arises. Sometimes at the detriment of your own health.
You donât think youâd ever get used to seeing the sun rise over the horizon from your vantage point up in the Mobyâs crowâs nest.Â
The gentle blush of pink peeking over the horizon, watercolor-soft as the veil of the night pulled back. Blackness faded away to reveal the glittering waves of the ocean stretched seemingly infinitely all around you. It was a freedom given to you by the Whitebeard Pirates, one you could never repay.
Sunrise also had the added bonus of signifying the end of your lookout ship, the promise of your bed waiting for you.
Below you, on the deck, the morning bell rang out, signifying the official end of the night shiftâs work. The hubbub of the ship coming to life stirred up as you climbed down the mast, seeing the specks of the other lookouts doing the same at the other crowâs nests. A few members glanced your way as your feet hit the deck, and you returned the greetings thrown at you, albeit with slightly less energy.
Your stomach growled as the aroma of food from the galley drifted over when you entered the halls. However, you didnât join the others for breakfast like normal and instead went deeper into the Mobyâs bowels to where the crewâs quarters were. Youâd been bothered by a persistent headache all night, and you knew that going into the noisy mess hall would no doubt make it worse.
The shared cabin was thankfully empty for the most part, and you made it over to your hammock before collapsing into it and tugging the blanket up to your chin before blacking out, looking forward to the long, uninterrupted rest youâd get.
âWAKE UP!â
You grunted in pain as you were upended from your hammock, bedding and all falling down with you. Blearily, you sat up and squinted at the pair of legs in front of you, smacking your dry lips. You didnât know how long it was since youâd fallen asleep, but you knew it was not long enough.
A freckled face and messy black hair invaded your vision, the inquisitive expression of one Portgas D. Ace showing who exactly it was that woke you up.
âHey! Got a moment?â
Even though it was phrased as a question, you still found yourself forcibly dragged to your feet, his grip on your wrist the sole thing that kept you moving as you stumbled through the halls and out into the deck. Sunlight pierced your half-closed eyes, and you winced, squeezing them shut as you trusted Ace not to run you both into something. You two finally paused and you cracked your eyes open to show that youâd stopped in front of Striker, in all her dripping glory as she hung hoisted up over the deck.
Ace finally released your wrist, sheepishly rubbing the back of his head. âSorry to drag ya all the to fix up the Striker for me? Iâd ask Blenheim, but heâs with the other fleet right now.â
At the request of a fixing, you forcefully shook off your sleepiness. Tiredness still lingered, and that damn headache still nipped at your temple, but you pushed it all back. Alert eyes assessed the damage in front of you as you tuned into Aceâs chattering.
âI got cornered by a few small Marine scout boats and had to take the Striker through some sorta reef. Thought I got through it fine, but I guess the coralââ
A sudden thud.
You paused in your observation to haul Ace out of the way of the crew and lay him out straight before returning to the Striker. True to his word, the bottom of Strikerâs hull was deeply scratched when you bent down to take a look at it. The wood was gouged in a few points, areas where leaks wouldâve no doubt let in water. It was a miracle Ace made it back. You hummed at the thought, making a note to get Pops to talk with the young man about his recklessness.
The Striker swayed gently from the lines holding her up as you pushed gently, tilting your head to catch the sound of sloshing water in her bowels. It wouldnât do to mend everything only to have her rot from the inside out by trapped moisture. When nothing came back, you nodded approvingly and crouched down, hand reaching up to touch the largest of the holes. There was a dim glow before the wood seemed to seal up wherever you dragged your fingers over it, returning to its previous pristine state. You did the same for the others, each spark and glow only tugging at the tiredness in your bones. It was light work, but you were still exhausted by the time you finished, opting to take a seat by Ace where he lay. You were only beginning to blink off into sleep when the young man sat back up.
ââscratched âer up real bad andâOh.â
Ace blinked at the newly repaired full before turning to you, sending a thousand-kilowatt smile your way.
âFâxed it,â you mumbled, shooting him a thumbs up. Your head tilted to the side and you dozed off. While your Devil Fruit, the Mend Mend Fruit was extremely useful, it did take a toll on you.
Strong arms once again wretched you to your feet, and you squawked as Ace bodily hauled you off, cheerful as ever.
âThanks so much! Letâs go get some food. Iâm starvinâââ
You went limp in the newly minted commanderâs hold, resigning yourself to your fate as he dragged you along to the mess. There were a few others there who were the stragglers from lunchtime.
Ace shifted you to drape over his shoulder like a sack as he assembled a plate for the two of you. The world flipped around as he set you down at a table, and you murmured your thanks, dragging heavy limbs to your utensils to force a few bites down.
A call of your name and a harried-looking Thatch halted right by your table, relief on his face. âThere you are. Glad I could catch you. Think you can get that pipe done for us now?â
Your eyes widened as you straightened. Right. You were supposed to have stopped by this morning after breakfast to help fix up the leak in the piping that the division didnât have the supplies to replace. âOh shit. Iâm so sorry, Thatch.â
Shooting to your feet, you pushed your plate to Ace and quickly set towards the galley, Thatch on your tail. The Fourth Division greeted you, wrapping up post-meal duties as they avoided one particular section in specific. Someone already peeled away the wooden boards to expose the problematic pipe, and rags were stuffed along the spaces in the wall and sprawled on the floor. As you approached, you noticed that there was something on the pipe. You squinted at the stain and sniffed.
âIs thisâIs this dried molasses?!?âÂ
Thatch whistled and adverted his eyes under your scrutinizing stare. âWe had to make do.â
You exhaled despairingly, pressing your fingers into the sticky mess. It was concerning how often you all ran short on miscellaneous supplies, despite being an Emperorâs crew. A glow sparked up, and you sealed the gap.
The sticky, dark substance stuck to your fingers as you withdrew them, and your stomach suddenly churned. Rushing to an empty sink, you quickly washed it off as you called back, âIâm not cleaning that.â
âFair,â Thatch said. He withdrew a rag from his chef apron. âThanks for this.â
You hummed as you exited the galley.
Somehow, those two actions seemed to unleash a catalyst upon your peace. The promise of rest seemed further and further away as you were directed all over the ship, fixing this odd thing or that odd part. Your headache never went away, only getting worse as nausea was added to the list.
Skull called out his thanks as you bolted away from him, clapping a hand over your mouth as you beelined for the railing. You made it just in time to empty your stomach over the side. The only food in your stomachâthe meager bits you managed to shovel down before Thatch interruptedâsplashed sadly into the water.
Shivering, you closed your eyes to block out the sight of the swaying waters below you. The railing dug into your stomach as you slumped down into it. Everything felt hot and cold at once, and you admitted to yourself that maybe it was time to lie down. No more using your Devil Fruit for today.
As you were straightening up, a scuffle broke out from behind you. It was two recruits, roughhousing or fighting, you couldnât care either way. But before you could move, one of them stumbled and slammed into you. Your eyes widened as your grip slipped, and because of the way you were leaning over the railing, you felt gravity tugging you to the wrong side as you pitched overboard.
Your wide eyes were fixed on the spot where you just were, too stunned to make a peep. There was a shout of alarm on board.
It was never fun falling from the Moby Dick. Its massive size meant nothing less than a painful impact, and even a few broken bones if you were unlucky.
But you wouldnât call yourself lucky either way if you fell over the Moby in the first place.
You slammed into the waves.
The first thing that hit you was the pain. Like crashing into solid brick, your back ached from bearing the brunt of the impact. Then the insidious cold seeped in, past your clothes, past your skin, until everything went numb. Bubbles swirled past you in a dizzying spectacle, and it wouldâve been pretty if not for the death grip of the weight pulling down on your limbs.
Motes of bubbles passed your lips, but you had the foresight to not open your mouth, to not breathe. But that was all you could do as you sunk deeper, black edging into your vision.
They always said that drowning was a horrible way to go, the choking of water in your lungs. But to you, it felt soft. Like the welcoming of the tiredness youâd carried around all day.
Itâs so easy,
Your eyes fluttered, lips cracking open, allowing the saltwater to rush in.
You could get the rest you wanted.
You didnât feel the arms clamping around your waist to drag you upward.
But you did notice as the two of you breached the surface, water spewing out of your mouth as you coughed. It burned going up, and you clung limply to the form you now identified to be Rakuyo as he stretched up his other arm. âBring us up!â
He crushed you to his chest as the two of you shot up from the water, hauled up by his living flail. You both landed on the deck again, him on his feet while you were still in his hold. However, that quickly changed as your body spasmed.
âWoah there!â The man exclaimed, quickly crouching down so you wouldnât meet a second painful impact if you spilled out of his arms.
âSomeone grab Marco!â
Quickly, you were set on your side. Just in time as you retched. More seawater (seriously you donât know how you swallowed so much) came up, through your nose, through your mouth. Warm hands rubbed your back as you gathered the strength to prop yourself up, as the spasms continued. It wouldâve been mortifying to have the crew see you like this if you hadnât seen these same full-grown men projectile vomit their dinner after a few too many drinks. As of right now, you were busy trying not to feel like death warmed over. Someoneâs oversized sash fell around your shoulders as they used it to dry you off of the cold water.
âWhatâs going on, yoi?â
Marcoâs voice was like a balm to your raw nerves as indistinct voices murmured over your head. Someone draped something soft over you (a towel?) and you sneezed.
Like the worldâs most pathetic, bedraggled, wet cat, you were picked up from underneath your arms and passed over to warmer ones.
âH-Holâ on,â you slurred, getting wrapped up in the fabric around your shoulders. Your head lolled against a warm chest. âMight throwâthrow up.â
Marco shushed you. âDonât worry about it, yoi.â
Blue and gold flames fluttered to life around you, your aches and coldness fading away. However, you still felt that bone-deep tiredness, and your lungs still rattled wetly.Â
âIâm taking you to the infirmary. We have to monitor your lungs, just in case.â
Aw, man. You hated to be a bother.
Weakly wriggling in his grip, you voiced your protests, ââM fine. L-Lemme jusâ go sleep it off.â
âYou can rest in the infirmary. I healed your superficial injuries, but I canât fix the drain your Devil Fruit already pulled from you or expel any potential water. Donât fight me on this, yoi.â
You let out an unintelligible noise, sagging deeper into his hold. The hubbub of the ship fell away into muffled peace as he entered the infirmary, greeting the nurses there.
âGoodness! What happened?â Lisa asked as she pulled out more towels and a pair of spare clothes.
âWe had a tumble off the deck,â Marco said, setting you down on a bed in the corner and stepping back for the nurse to let her set the clothes down by your side. He grabbed the privacy curtain, readying to pull it close as he asked you, âThink you can get changed, yoi? Lisa or another nurse can assist if you think youâll need help.â
You looked down at your shaking hands, then to the set of folded clothes beside you. It was a simple enough shirt and pants, nondescript for their versatility. âIâll be f-f-f-fine.â
The shiver that broke your words into a stutter wasnât convincing, but Marco didnât push it as he pulled the curtains closed around you to give you a bit of privacy. His voice came from the other side, âLet me know when youâre done, yoi.â
It took you much longer than youâd like to admit, wrangling yourself into the change of clothes, but just when Marco began shuffling on the other side of the curtain, you managed to pull the collar of the shirt over your head with your stiff limb and wrapped your hair in a towel.
âIâm d-do-done.â
The curtains were pulled open again and Marco stepped through. In the span of time it took for you to change, the man had collected equipment of his own. His stethoscope hung around his neck, and he carried a blanket rolled up under an arm and a thermometer.
âJust a precaution, yoi,â he said when he saw you eyeing his getup. You took the blanket when he handed it to you. The back of his hand came up to rest on your forehead and he hummed as he began putting on his stethoscope. âI want to listen to your lungs and keep you here to rest up.â
Letting out a put-upon sigh, you tilted your head back, staying still as Marco pressed the cold metal of the chest piece into your skin, expression calm as he focused on your breathing. After a few moments, he pulled away and tugged off the instrument.
âYour breathing sounds alright from what I could tell, yoi. But your temperatureâs a little out of its normal range. How are you feeling, yoi?â
With the assessment done, you pulled away and curled up on the bed, tugging the blanket up. âBlegh, fine. Iâm just gonna rest my eyes for a bit.â
âYou do that, yoi,â Marco said, patting your shoulder. âIâll watch over you.â
Letting out a huff, you allowed the lull of sleep to finally pull you under.
***
Warm hands on your forehead and cheek stirred you from the fretful slumber you were in, and you murmured, trying to pull away from the disturbance. Your breath whistled when you sighed, nose closed by a painful pressure and the rattle when you breathed seemed more prominent than ever.
There was a quiet tut before they came back with greater insistence, pulling you into a sitting position. You resisted, but your limbs felt leaden when you tried to lift them up. A slow, pounding pain pulsed in your temples on top of that, intensifying when you cracked your eyes open. You squeezed them shut again, but that peek was enough to see the slight chastisement on Marcoâs expression as you identified him to be the one taking care of you.
His voice was low, kept to a manageable level that wouldnât upset your head as he said, âLooks like youâre getting a fever, yoi. Thatâs strange.â
Blue flickered through your closed eyes as a gentle wash of his flames coursed through you. The pounding in your head lessened
âTried my best to alleviate some of your symptoms, but since most of them arenât physical injuries, I donât think helped much.â
âItâs fine,â you rasped, blinking the crustiness from your eyes as you sat up. âThanks for tryinââ
He hummed, pulling away. âWhat Iâm surprised about is that youâre getting so sick from a dip in the waters. As far as Iâm aware, the waters in this part of the Grand Line should be temperate enough to avoid that issue, yoi. UnlessâŚâ He narrowed his eyes at you, suspicion flashing in his gaze as he picked up on your guilty air. âYou were on deck at a time where you would usually be asleep, yoi. Why werenât you resting?âÂ
âListen,â you began. âYouâre not allowed to scold anybody involved in itâŚâ
Marco sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. âWhy do I feel like I already know who it is, yoi?â
âAce took me out to help fix Striker,â you agreed, ignoring Marcoâs muttered âI knew itâ. âThen we swung by the galley where there was something I forgot to fix for Thatch. Some of the crew caught me about, and it kind of escalated from there.â
The way the man tilted his head was distinctively avian. âNow, why would you do that, yoi? Weâve discussed using your Devil Fruit when youâre tired.â
You pursed your lips and adverted your eyes, shrugging. âI dunno. I couldnât just say no.â
His eyes softened. âYou know⌠Youâre deserving of rest when youâre tired. You donât need to bend over backward to please us. You donât have to prove anything.â
Unbidden, you felt tears spring up in your eyes, and you blamed it on the mess running through your system, pulling away so you could wipe them.
However, Marcoâs hands came up to hold your face, thumb wiping away the bit of saltiness that spilled over your lashes.
âSilly love,â Marco murmured as he tugged you into his chest and enveloped you.
Pliantly allowing it to happen, your face ended up buried in his chest. His hand rubbed your back comfortingly as he shifted to take a seat and pulled you into his lap. You sank deeper into him, instinctively relaxing at the soothing warmth he emitted.
âNobody would think less of you for resting. Thereâs no payment to be on the crew beyond what you can safely provide. And youâve done plenty, are doing plenty. Pops is not going to kick you out if you donât repair Skullâs necklace or somebodyâs sandals for the fiftieth time. You belong with us. We want you.â
You closed your eyes in embarrassment, hands coming up to cover your face. Marcoâs chuckle jostled you a little bit, and the arm around your waist squeezed you, dragging you even closer to him. His flames flickered over you again, and you went boneless against him, hands dropping from your face. The ache in your chest that you didnât even know you were carrying lightened with his presence.
âYou just rest now, yoi. Iâll take care of you.â
You sighed, a trembling shaky thing. âThank you, Marco.â
A teasing bet with Marco to avoid touching each other for 24 hours turns into a slow, chaotic game of tension and stolen glancesâuntil he breaks first in the most heated way imaginable.

âYouâre clingy,â you said with a grin, poking Marco in the chest.
He arched a golden brow at you from his perch on the railing of the Moby Dick, sipping from a glass of juice like he wasnât practically sitting in your lap just minutes earlier.
âAnd youâre warm-yoiâ he replied smoothly, smirking over the rim. âYou canât blame a man for seeking comfort.â
âOh, comfort is that what you call face-nuzzling and grabbing my ass every time I walk past?â
He shrugged one shoulder. âYou never complain-yoi.â
You mock-gasped. âBet you canât go a day without touching me.â
His eyes sparked with challenge. âWanna test that, hot stuff?â
âGladly.â
It was childish. Dumb. A dare born from too much sun, too many lazy days at sea, and way too much unresolved tension between you and the First Division Commander.
No touching for 24 hours.
Simple. Easy. Harmless.
Except you shouldâve remembered who you were messing with.
Marco had patience. Experience. Smugness that could kill a lesser person.
You, on the other hand?
You had none of that. Just a desperate craving for his warmth, his mouth, his fingers on your hipsâhis everything.
But you werenât about to back down first. Hell no.
You were going to win this.
âŚor die trying.
Hour 1 â Torture Begins
It started innocent enough.
You lounged beside Marco at the breakfast table, far enough apart that your legs didnât touch. He didnât even look at you.
Oh no, he just breathed.
Existed.
Perfectly tanned skin, messy blond hair, lips wrapped around a piece of fruit as he chewed slowly.
His fingers glistened with juice, and you were far too aware of how often those hands had touched you just yesterday. Brushed your jaw. Traced circles on your thighs under the table. Slid under your shirt when he thought no one was looking.
You gulped down your coffee.
Across from you, Marcoâs mouth twitched.
Smug bastard.
Hour 1.5 â Petty Warfare
You retaliated in the only way you knew how: wardrobe sabotage.
You walked across the deck in the tightest shirt you ownedâMarcoâs, actually, slightly oversized but cropped just enough to show off a sliver of your waist. His scent clung to it.
You watched him nearly choke on his drink.
But the phoenix was strong. Too strong. He looked away, muttered something about the weather, and retreated to the lookout post like a coward.
You chased after him thirty minutes later with a tray of freshly sliced mango.
âHungry, hot stuff?â you cooed.
He didnât look at you. Just smirked, plucked a slice off the tray, and sucked the juice from his fingers with purpose.
You almost dropped the tray.
ââŚYouâre evil.â
He smiled. âStill not touching you, though.â
Hour 2 â Meltdown
You were done.
Two hours in and you were vibrating with tension. You missed the way Marco absentmindedly tangled his fingers with yours, the way heâd lean his forehead against your temple during lulls in the day.
You were touch-starved. Desperate. Thirsty.
You were pacing across the infirmary muttering to yourself when the door opened and Marco stepped in, looking far too pleased.
âCanât do it, huh?â he drawled.
You froze. âIâm fine.â
âYouâre twitching like Ace off sugar withdrawal-yoiâ
âShut up,â you snapped, spinning to face him. âYouâre suffering too. I see it. You miss me.â
He stepped forward slowly. Deliberately.
Your back hit the wall.
You cursed.
He caged you in with his arms on either side of your head, leaning closeâso close.
âI do miss you-yoi,â he murmured, voice like velvet. âYou gonna do something about that...hmm?â
Your breath hitched.
âIâm not touching you.â
He smirked. âThatâs fine.â
And then he leaned in.
He didnât even start with your lips.
NoâMarco pressed a soft, lingering kiss to your cheekbone first. Then your jaw. Then just under your ear.
You whimpered. Actually whimpered.
He chuckled against your skin. âStill not touching me-yoi?â
âIâm hanging on by a damn thread.â
He moved closer. You could feel the heat of him, the teasing curl of his breath.
âYouâre adorable when youâre stubborn,â he whispered.
Then he finallyâfinallyâkissed you full on the mouth.
It was hot. Hungry. Frustrated.
His hand slid into your hair, tilting your head, and you parted your lips for him automatically. His tongue slid against yours with a low, pleased noise, like he was savoring every second.
You clutched his shirt, yanking him closer, fingers digging into muscle.
He broke first.
He always would.
But you were already too gone to care.
Ten minutes later, you were curled up in Marcoâs lap on the infirmary cot, flushed and breathless.
âThat was cheating,â you muttered.
He grinned, pressing a kiss to your forehead. âYou said no touching. I didnât.â
âYou started this bet.â
âAnd I ended it. With style-yoiâ
You smacked his chest half-heartedly.
He caught your hand and kissed your knuckles.
âNo more dumb bets,â you said.
Marco leaned in, brushing his nose against yours.
âMm...no more distance,â he whispered. âEver.â

Giyu hides his jealousy way too well. You two had worked together for a very long time. The first few months of knowing him you didnât even know if he knew your name let alone that you existed to him. He was not very open so you left him alone the best you could. That was until one day you were eating peacefully and he came and sat next to you. You were stunned, your chewing paused as you slowly looked over at him. He was sitting cross legged beside you, quietly opening his wrapped food. When he noticed you looking he paused and met your eyes.
âHm?â He hummed, as though he sat next to you all the time. As though you two had said more than three words to each other in months. You didnât want to scare him off so you just gently shook your head.Â
âNothing.â You answered, looking back down at your food, swallowing nervously. Giyu returned his look to his food and out of the corner of your eyes you saw him pause.Â
âAre you⌠friendly with Sanemi?â He asked. You furrowed your brow, chancing a glance at him. He met your eyes with a curious stare.Â
âSanemi?â You repeated. He nodded his head once. You purse your lips. You were friendly with all the hashiraâs except him but you didnât think that was exactly what he was asking. Well to be honest you werenât really sure what he was asking so you decided to play it safe.
âHmm⌠yes. Heâs a friend.â You answer. His face doesnât reveal anything as he nods his head again, looking back at his food. You wonder if you answered correctly as he suddenly pulls out a little white sweets box. The very same sweets that you would buy as a treat for yourself after missions.Â
âJust a friend?â He asks as you nod your head, blushing slightly. Giyu looks relieved and hands the sweets over to you without a word.Â
âOh⌠for me?â You ask and he nods his head. When you reach to take it your hands brush and you swear his cheeks pinken.

You didnât think Mitsuri ever got jealous until a few years into your relationship. You two often had missions together which meant you also had time off at the same time. Hiking to the swordsmith village to relax. After settling in you two hit the kitchen. The only thing that could rival your love for each other was your love for food. There were a few other hashiraâs around and when you couldnât pop a jar open you handed it over, sighing, to the closest person, which wasnât your girlfriend. Shinobu popped it open for you and you continued to help prep the food. Thatâs when you noticed Mitsuri pouting and when you met her eyes she blushed and looked away embarrassed, returning to helping prepare food. You didnât think much about it but at dinner she was quiet. You wanted to ask if something was wrong but you didnât want to embarrass her in front of the other hashiraâs so you waited until you two were headed back to your shared cabin. Once out of ear shot you reached and tucked her hair behind her ear so you were able to see her face.Â
âIs something wrong?â You asked, still blushing she shrugged it off, shaking her head.
âNo⌠nothingâs wrong, dear.â She answered quickly. It was an obvious lie.
âDid someone say something to you? To make you upset?â
âNo⌠itâs⌠nothing important.â She said with a soft shake of her head, like she was trying to trick herself into forgetting about it. You laced your fingers with hers.Â
âIf you're upset then itâs important. Come on, just tell me.â You prodded gently. She gave a little sigh and you could tell she was a little embarrassed but still she opened up to you.
âIâm strong⌠you know,â She starts, wearily looking over at you.
âI know that.âÂ
âI can open things. Lift thingsâŚ. You know, you donât need anyone else to do that kind of stuff.â Slowly you nodded your head, trying to understand what she was saying. âI just wanted you to know that.â You gave her hand a gentle squeeze and thatâs when it hit you. You absentmindedly let someone open a jar for you. It really was a small thing but you knew Mitsuri liked to be strong for you. You turned to hide your smile, you pulled her hand to your lips and kissed her knuckles. âThat⌠reminds me, honey, Iâm exhaustedâŚâ
âYou want me to carry you?â She asks excitedly as you softly laughed, nodding your head. MItsuri sweeps you off your feet with ease and you can tell sheâs forgotten all about being upset.

Obanai doesnât necessarily get jealous, it's more of a territorial thing. You thought for sure he hated you, little did you know he worshiped you from the start. Sometimes youâd have missions with him and he'd speak about three words to you and sometimes when you were lucky heâd speak full sentences. You didnât know until later on it was because he was so damn nervous around you. On this particular mission, after slaying the demon, you two went out for drinks. It was wholly awkward so you excused yourself from the table and found your way to the bar. The bartender thanked you for helping with the demon and it felt nice to talk with someone. This whole thing played out for maybe two minutes before the bartender froze, eyes fearful as he glanced behind you. You furrowed your brows and turned as Obanai approached.Â
âWe received another mission, we should get going.â He says as you sigh, nodding your head, he placed some money on the counter for your drinks.
âT-the drinks are on the house.â The bartender offered but Obanai just slid the money over, his eyes sharpening. You watched the whole thing, sort of speechless. When you followed him out he held the door open for you and gave one more heated glance at the bartender. The village you two were currently stationed at was quiet and peaceful.Â
âWhere are we headed next?â You asked as you fell into step with him.
âA few towns over.â He answered and you nodded your head, knowing that was just about as much talking you're probably getting out of him tonight. âUnless you wanted to stay.âÂ
âStay here?â You asked, he was walking a few steps ahead of you. He didnât answer. âI wouldnât have minded having a few more drinks.â You joked.
âWith that bartender?â He added and you didnât miss the bitterness in his voice. You paused, deciding whatever you said next you had to tread lightly. You could tease him or you could clear things up.Â
âAt least he talks to me.â You said. He stopped, turning to face you.
âAnything enlightening?âÂ
âWouldnât you like to know.â You said and he raised his head just slightly.
âI would.â
âIâm joking, he was just thanking us for taking care of that demon.â You said truthfully as Obanai nodded his head, turning away from you as you walked. You didnât want the conversation to end. Even though you two never talked much before you found yourself wanting to hear more of his voice, wanting more of his attention. Unwittingly you had all of his attention most of the time. You couldnât think of anything to say.
âYou make me nervous,â Obanai says over his shoulder. âThatâs why I donât talk much.â
âOh,â You were stunned. He turned to face you again and you gave him a soft smile, you wanted him to feel comfortable with you. âIs it because I talk too much?â You ask. Obanai instantly shakes his head ânoâ.Â
âDonât stop. I like the sound of your voice.â It almost sounded like a plea.

Sanemi lets it be known heâs jealous, he doesnât care to hide it. Someoneâs talking with you, smiling and laughing a bit too much with you? Thereâs Sanemi saddling up beside you, hand sliding around you to rest on your hip as he pulls you a bit closer to him. Heâs shameless. When he first met you, you were in training to be a hashira under Tengen and Sanemi would watch your workouts sometimes. Heâd always watch with this sort of intense expression and sometimes it caught you off guard and distracted you. In those moments Tengen would take you to the floor, huffing.Â
âIâm going to ban him from our training sessions if you canât focus.â Tengen said, he straddled you, pressing you into the dirt as you cleared your throat.
âIâm so sorry sir, it wonât happen again.â And at least for the rest of practice that day you kept your eyes on your teacher. But after Tengen was finished with you he ruffled your hair.
âYouâre a force to be reckoned with if you keep your eyes off the wind hashira.â He said and you turned bright red, unable to chirp back at him so he laughs heartily and waves as he leaves. You sigh, turning as Sanemi grabs a practice sword. You watch as he swings it around before pointing it towards you.Â
âTengenâs a handsy guy. Already has three wives but watch out and youâll be his fourth.â Sanemi stated dryly. You were exhausted from training and the way Sanemi moved closer to you you wondered if he was wanting to train you a bit himself. Sanemi circles you like a predator. You feel his eyes on every part of your body as you swallow dryly. When he walked back around the front he tossed you the sword and you caught it with ease. He grabbed a sword himself.Â
âI⌠am exhausted, Sanemi.â You huffed and he gave you a heated look.Â
âOne round.â He points the tip at you. You swallowed down a sigh and pointed your sword right back at him. You werenât bad by any means but you werenât even close to the level of a hashira. Sanemi worked around your blade with practiced ease and you realized right there and then that Tengen was certainly going easy on you because Sanemi had backed you up in seconds and took you to the ground. He pressed himself against you, his sword against your neck. Your eyes glared up at him.
âAlright you won, can I go rest now?â
âHas that lousy sound hashira taught you anything?â Sanemi questions. He was obsessed with this. He saw the look on your face. âDitch him, Iâll teach you from now on.â
âIâm not doing that. Tengen is a good teacher.â You defended. Sanemi pulled the sword away from your neck and with swiftness pulled you to your feet. He doesnât let go of your hand though and the closeness to him has your heart beating wildly in your chest.Â
âIâm better.â He says as though it's a well known fact. You wondered what his motives were and what his grudge was against Tengen.Â
âWhatâs this about?â You ask and watch his eyes leave yours as he shamelessly looks at your lips, scanning what he wanted to before meeting your eyes again. This simple act wreaked havoc on your systems.Â
âI think itâs pretty clear, I want to teach you myself.â
âWhy though?â
âTengen doesnât deserve to. Thatâs why.â He pulls you to him suddenly. âDo you understand?â His voice was low and soft, eyes searching. He was trying to tell you something with his eyes. He sighed, you guessed he needed to be more clear with his intentions so he gave a small shake of the head and dipped his head to meet your lips with his. You sucked in a breath as he kissed you hard enough to prove his point. You understood now, albeit a little late.

Rengokuâs jealousy is healthy. He trusts you fully but doesnât trust anyone who would come up and flirt with you when heâs right there. A lot of people come up and talk with you and you're completely oblivious to their flirting so Rengoku will intervene to save you. On your very first date the waiter at the noodle place you two were at flirted with you practically the entire time. Rengoku didnât get angry, in fact it made him smile that no matter how much flirting was being done youâd still be leaving this restaurant with him. But the moment the waiter stepped over the line and made you clearly uncomfortable Rengoku cleared his throat. He didnât yell or make a scene, he just simply gave the waiter a fiery glare. The waiter was gone within seconds. You looked at your date, giving him a knowing and thankful smile.Â
The only time jealousy fully got under his skin was when he came back from a long mission and caught sight of you eating lunch in the courtyard with Giyu. He felt his cheeks burn at the sight. One thing Rengoku loved just slightly less than you was food. And what he loved more about it was eating it next to you. But here you were, eating it next to someone else. Sure it was childish but logic never really came into play when jealousy took over. When you walked back to your shared room and caught sight of his red hair your face completely morphed into light as you sprinted across the room and slammed against him in a bone crushing hug. Heâd been gone for at least two months and it was almost unbearable.Rengoku, despite pouting slightly, wrapped you in a hug with the same vigor, breathing in your scent. You two stayed like that for a long moment.Â
âI missed you. When did you get back?â You asked, muffled against his chest.
âAbout an hour ago.â You pulled back at that, looking up at him. He wanted to mope but the moment your eyes met his smile so wide fitted to his lips.Â
âAn hour?â You asked. âWhy didnât you come find me?â
âI saw you eating with Giyu, just didnât want to bother you.â He says and knows he was being silly earlier. But being apart from you for two months had made him weary and heartsick for you.Â
âYou could never bother me. Never.â You doubled down, pulling his face to yours, proving your point with a kiss. He mumbled an apology against your lips before you smiled into the kiss. When you pulled back you slightly smirked up at him. âWas that jealousy?â You asked as his entire face went beet red and you knew you were right. You tilted your head to the side. âKyojuroâŚâ
âIâm sorry,â He says, tightening his hold around you. âWeâve been apart far too long.â
-
Tengen also hides his jealousy pretty well but hides it behind jokes. You could not stand him when you first met. You were nothing like him. Liked the quiet, liked the dark, liked your solitude. Tengen on the hand liked you. He liked how quiet you were and wanted to diminish the dark for you and snatch away your solitude. You liked your personal space and he also liked your personal space.Â
You grew up an only child with cold parents in a depressing town so when you met Tengen and he was flashy and warm, naturally you sulked away from him. He tried everything. He bought you your favorite sweets and relished when youâd give him the smallest of smiles that looked more like a grimace but heâd take what he can get. Heâd find you books to read and insist that you read it to him in return and when you begrudgingly agreed heâd melt into a puddle and sit as close as humanly possible. And when heâd pretend to fall asleep on your shoulder he really felt as though he could combust.Â
Heâd never chased after someone so hard.Â
You were so elusive, just out of reach. When you met his wives they all adored you in the same way he did. It scared him though, you werenât one to put yourself out there. You didnât like many people and being with Tengen meant youâd be with four people at all times. Though the times that you were around and happened to run into him and his wives you didnât seem overwhelmed. In fact the first time he saw you actually smile, like eyes crinkling cheeks blushing smile was when Hinatsuru pulled you into a hug and told you how pretty you looked. The only jealousy he felt then and there was not being able to have that smile directed at him. But after seeing that smile he finally realized it was possible to make you smile so let the teasing begin. Suddenly Tengen was around all the time. You didnât notice it at first but suddenly he was everywhere. Teasing you, overtly flirting with you, towering over you and trying so damn hard to make you blush and smile the way his wife did.Â
It was exhausting for you. All this attention. What was even more exhausting is pretending that you didnât want Tengen. There was a war within you. Wanting to be alone and wishing to never be alone again. Tengen and his life was the polar opposite of yours. Everything you couldnât stand but found wanting to tolerate, wanting that shine in your darkness. Things all came to a head when you were at a fork in the road. Tagging along Tengenâs mission versus Giyuâs. To you it was an obvious choice. Tagging along with Giyu meant not really having to talk the entire time. And when you told Tengen things spiraled.
âSo you got a thing for the quiet ones? Shouldâve known.â He teased with this sort of practiced ease. He looked wholly unaffected by your decision.
âI donât have a thing for anyone.â You corrected, you had been cleaning your katana when he found his way into your room somehow without your objections. Maybe it was all the time that you were spending with him things were just slowly becoming comfortable?Â
âYouâre breaking my heart, sunshine.â If looks could kill Tengen would be long long dead. It wasnât the first time he called you that nickname and it certainly would not be the last. Unfortunately.
âIâm very busy, you know.â
âBusy thinking of your mission with the stoic Giyu?â He teased and you breathed in and let out a huff of air.
âYou are relentless. Is there something you want to say?â You ask over your shoulder. Heâs uncharacteristically quiet behind you so you turn just slightly. Tengen is looking at you in the same way heâd been looking at you when he thought you werenât paying attention. Tengen looked at you as though the light only shined on earth because you held the sun in place. You looked away and begrudgingly ignored that flip in your chest.
âYou like him better than me.â And⌠heâs back to teasing. Well two can play that game.
âYes I do.â You answered bluntly.
âNow youâre really killing me, Sun-â
âNope. No nicknames. Iâm not a pet.â He laughed at that, a warm laugh that you didnât know how badly you wanted to hear again.Â
âI bet he isnât able to get under your skin like I do.â
âYouâre right.â You said and heard Tengen stand from where he was sitting. You go slightly rigid as you feel him walk closer to where youâre standing. He barely brushes against you as he looks over your shoulder. You try to continue to work like this was unaffecting you but your walls were slowly crumbling around you. There was only so long you could pretend you didnât want a good thing. And Tengen was sure as hell a good thing.Â
âGiyuâs quiet. You wonât have an ounce of fun on his mission.âÂ
âKilling demonâs isnât supposed to be fun.â You throw back and you can practically hear the smirk in his voice as he responds.
âIt is with me.â You roll your eyes and turn to tell him to get lost but when you turn and look up your faces are millimeters apart. Maybe even less. Your words falter and for a moment all you can think of is if you moved just barely forwards your lips would meet his. âCat got your tongue?â He said huskily just loud enough for you to hear. It turns your insides out, burning you up from head to toe. You wanted to ask what he really wanted but it would ultimately be a stupid question. Tengen had never hidden his intentions from the start. Only you had. He pointedly moved his eyes to your lips but didnât move any closer. You knew then and there he was practically handing over the reigns. If you wanted him youâd have to make the next move. You had a penchant for letting things pass you by. It was like you were begrudgingly obsessed with not letting yourself have anything. Love never seemed like something attainable. Friendship seemed like a lot of work and family never felt like family. âIâll wait forever, if thatâs what you want.â He whispered, interrupting your thoughts. Your heart hurts at that. You werenât being fair. Making him wait forever was a selfish thing to do and even with all those things he still looked one hundred percent serious when he said it. He wouldnât get tired of you. He could be the one to stick around for good. He could be the good.Â
âIâm still going with Giyu. I already promised.â You said.
âBreak the promise, Sunshine, Iâm practically begging.â As his face slightly dropped you leaned forwards and closed that gap that you had gotten far too comfortable with. Lips sliding against lips.
-
Hotaru was downright scary when he was jealous. Holy shit you were scared out of your mind. Your destroyed blade laid in pieces in front of you. Your heart was in your throat. You felt a hand on your shoulder as Rengoku gave you a reassuring squeeze.Â
âTough break, kid.â He said with a shake of his head. âIâm sure heâll understand.â
âThe last time I broke my blade he yelled and ranted for three hours and passed out from lightheadedness.â You said, remembering the whole ordeal with a shiver. Rengoku shook his head.
âYour blade broke for a noble cause, make sure to tell him that.â He said, giving you one last squeeze before turning to leave. You bent over and grabbed the shattered remains. You were dead. Dead dead dead. You had so much life to live. You had sweets in the fridge that Mitsuri made for you. You had finally learned a few new cool tricks to use in fighting. You were visiting home next month. You sighed, gathering up the broken pieces in a cloth.Â
âI will pay you double⌠no triple the usual amount, please I beg you.â You had your hands clasped together in front of you as though silent praying. The night before last you had an idea. There was more than just Hotaru that could make you a blade in the village so if you enlisted someone else to make you a sword just this one time Hotaru wouldnât lob your head off your shoulders.
âMr. Haganezuka would kill me, bring me back to life then kill me again if I made a sword for you.â The villager trembled at the mere thought. He was clearly just as afraid of Hotaru as you were. You swallowed dryly.
âHe would never know, please I beg you.Iâll give you any amount.â You begged but the villager just shook his head.
âHe would know because itâs you. Any other client I might do it but you⌠absolutely not. Youâre his favorite!â He said, looking over your shoulder as though Hotaru would enter his shop at any second.
âWhat does that mean! The only people that would know would be me and you! Please I will literally do anything!â
âAnd me.â A voice behind you says. Your blood goes cold. Slowly you turn around and sure enough thereâs Hotaru. Youâre caught like a deer in headlights. The villager actually screams and scrambles away, startling you. Hotaruâs expressions are hidden behind his mask so youâre not sure whether or not heâs angry quite yet. Youâd seen his face once a few years ago when this peaceful village was attacked. You were surprised in the moment that someone so intense could look so beautiful. That didnât dull that fact he was scary though.Â
âMr. Haganezuka! W-what a surprise!â You choke out, cheeks going fuchsia. âLovely weather weâre having today isnât it?â You squeak out. Hotaru slightly moves his head and you force yourself not to bolt out the door screaming like the villager. Youâre a hashira for god sakes! But to be completely truthful, Hotaru was scarier than any demon youâd ever faced.Â
âVery lovely. What brings to our village?â He asks, his voice scarily calm. You force yourself to give a terse smile.
âI- I came to relax of course!â
âRelax at my competitor's shop?â He asks and there is a sharp edge to his voice.Â
âCompetitor? Wha? I didnât-- I did not know you two were competing!â You nervously laughed it off, running a quick hand through your hair. âWe-- we go way back. I was just visiting for a second before hitting the hot springs!â You say and start to walk towards the door but Hotaruâs hand juts out, blocking you from leaving. You freeze, youâre so close to him, he towers over you and when he turns to look down at you you feel weak in the knees. Slowly he brings his hand up, untying the back of his mask as it falls into his waiting hand and youâre met face to face with Hotaru once again. The years had passed but he still looked as beautiful as ever. You definitely make a sound, a strangled gasp, though if it was from fear or surprise no one would ever know.Â
âYou⌠two⌠go way back?â He grits out. God⌠youâd done it now. You shouldâve just went to him in the first place, accepted his scolding and went about your week. But here you were, ten feet under and you werenât even sure after this debacle if heâd fix your sword for any amount of money. You cleared your throat.
âUhm⌠y-yes?âÂ
âYes?â He repeated and the look on his face was as sharp as the sharpest katana. You were so dead. Goodbye family. Goodbye sweet treats.Â
âHow⌠far back?â He asks. You stare at him. How far back? He caught you in the lie and you wished instead of twenty questions heâd just yell at you.Â
âJust like⌠a year.â You lied, Hotaruâs eyes narrowed on yours. The intense eye contact was insane. You almost forgot to breathe.Â
âYouâve known me longer than.â He articulates sharply. Your lips part, you're stumped for a moment.Â
âUh⌠y-yes, sir, I have.â You stumble.Â
âYet instead of coming to me, who youâve known far longer, you go to my competitor to fix the sword that I made you.â Ah fuck. The color absolutely drained from your face.Â
âWhat?â You shook your head. âN-nuh uh! I-- I was just visiting like I said.â At the end of your sentence he holds up the cloth that had the broken pieces of your sword. You patted your bag and gasped. How the hell did he get that! âIt-- that-- Itâs not what it looks like, Mr. Hagenzuka! I-- well you see it broke⌠honorably of course⌠and I was coming to you-â Hotaru raised his hand to silence you and you instantly stopped talking. This was it. This was the end. Killed by your swordsmith. If you were quick you could probably wrestle back a piece of your katana and end your life before he could.Â
âIf you ever break your sword again,â Hotaru practically growled.âAnd go to my competitor, I will-â
âKill me?â You filled in.
âKill him.â He fumed and then he reached for you. God he was gonna choke you out! His hand slid against your cheek and when he leaned in you sent out a final goodbye.Â
His lips met yours. His lips. Pressed against your lips. He was kissing you. Kissing? You? Your eyes were wide open. You had watched the whole thing in slow motion. Sure enough the moment heated as he stepped a bit closer to you, hand sliding around your hip to yank you a step closer to him. The most startling thing? The heat that suddenly ignited in your gut at the press of his mouth on yours. You made a startled sound in the back of your throat at the strange realization. What the hell was happening? When he pulled back your eyes were still open. Looking up at him as though heâd just smacked you right across the face.Â
âYou⌠just kissed me.â You say. He doesnât answer you with words, just nods his head, still looking pissed. âOn the lips.â
âYes.â He says sharply.Â
âLike lips on my lips.â
âIâm aware of what I did.â Hotaru groans, looking down at you.
âAm I dead?â You asked, patting yourself for any life threatening wounds, Hotaru watches you, looking unamused.Â
âNo. You are not dead.â
âI⌠was dead sure you⌠were going to murder me. Like⌠bloody murder.â
âWhy in the world would I murder you?â Hotaru asks, crossing his arms.
âB-because you⌠because I broke my sword and schemed to fix it behind your back with your competitor.â You say slowly as though he doesnât remember the last ten minutes. But he just looks down at you like youâre saying something incredibly apparent.
âYes. I know.â He growls but his anger doesnât necessarily seem directed at you as he sighs heavily.Â
âI am⌠very⌠confused.â You force out. Your brain felt melted in your head. Hotaru looks down at you and for a moment so quick you couldâve missed it his eyes look⌠soft? No⌠that had to be a trick of the lights.
âYouâre my client. No one elseâs. Got it?â He punctuates seriously. You nod your head quickly. What the hell just happened?
Mitsuri is the Hashira of Love. She dedicated her life to making love grow wherever she goes, and when in battle, her blows make Onis die in a painless, kind way. Of course she fell first.
Mitsuri is a very passionate girl, especially when it comes to you. Once she realizes she views you in a different light, the girl almost instantly becomes shyer around you. But you, unaware of her feelings, think it was cute to see her blushing out of the blue when you spoke to her, or how adorable is seeing her having trouble forming a full sentence to answer you.
Mitsuri, on other hand, tries to find the courage to ask you out, or even so find a way for you to see her the way she sees you. She doesn't know if you feel the same or not, but she is determined to try either way. One time, she tried to conquer you through your stomach, making you a homemade meal full of love. Maybe it would have worked, if she hadn't ended up eating all the food she made for you.âŚ
But this girl is a determined one! She will find her way through your heart, even if it takes longer than expected.
âY/N⌠do you want to make a homemade meal at my placeâŚ?â
Shinobu noticed you have feelings for her with no time. Even so, it took time for her to feel the same. But donât think badly of her! Although the girl thinks youâre cute, she doesn't have the time for a crush with all of Hashira's duties keeping her busy.Â
Over time, she ends up finding a little space for you in her life. She asks if you'd like to be her guinea pig for her new medicine, but she never forces you to try anything too dangerous.Â
With all the time you now spend with the girl, she begins to observe your details more. Shinobu enjoys seeing your reactions to her experiments, and even more to see your reaction to her. Everytime she teases you, her eyes witness a whole new embarrassed response coming from you, - red cheeks, scrambled words, no eye contact-Â and heavens she loves that.Â
If you asked Shinobu, she would tell you that she fell for you at this point. And God, she felt that fall.Â
Shinobu turned you into a new hobby. An almost daily habit of making some "innocent" pranks on you has been established, and she enjoyed every minute. She says things like âis for the good of the corporationâ, but at the end of the day you know that is just to drive you crazy..
âY/N-kun, I can take your temperature better if you sit on my lap, you know? Why don't you come here~"
The Sound Hashira doesn't notice at any point that you have feelings for him. In his eyes, he is so flamboyant that youâre just doing what anyone with eyes would. No big deal that you're staring at him for a strange long time or acting strange at his presence, he's a flamboyant Hashira after all.
But the minute he realized he saw you differently, everything was decided. Heâs gonna make you one of his wives, you wanting it or not.Â
First thing first he introduces you to his wives. The girls pepper you with all sorts of questions, from "where are you from?" to "which side of Uzui-san do you prefer to sleep on?" The girls have no shame in asking, but why would they? They're meeting a new wife! Soon, our lives will be exactly the same.
Second thing second he starts to give you gifts like sweets and clothes that meet your both styles. Anything he knows you're gonna enjoy. After all, he doesn't want you to feel different from his other wives.
When you realize, Uzui is already planning your move to his place, and everybody in the Corps is calling you âUzuiâs future wife". You donât even have time to ratiocinate when, after a week or two, Uzui puts you over his shoulders like a sack of potatoes and takes you to your new home.
âDonât worry, Y/N. Iâll take good care of youâ
Once upon a time there was a Hashira who would rather die than tell you his feelings.Â
Tomioka, at the beginning, tried to not pay much attention on you. He thought youâre pretty the first time he saw you, but soon after he came to the conclusion that it was better not to get your hopes up too high. After all, youâre a very talented member of the Corps, and have so much potential. It would be a shame to lose all your progress and chance of a bright future with someone like him.
But even believing this, Tomioka canât help but be selfish and still want your company.
When the sun is high, he asks if you donât want to go eat with him. He knows just the place nearby that serves the best food in the whole town, but of course he is not taking you there for any romantic reason. Even when he volunteers to train with you, so he could spend the evening at your side. Even then, is obvius for no romantic reason. He is just⌠helping the Demon Slayer Corps to have stronger allies. Thatâs all.
Besides all that, Tomioka still dreaming of a world where he feels he deserves to be with you. Even knowing he wonât say a word to you, even so, he still hopes that somehow you fall for him too. But until this impossible day comes, heâll wait.
âYouâre getting stronger, Y/N. Maybe he should training even moreâÂ
When your feelings for the Flame Hashira begin, you feel a little pity for yourself. This man is the sun in the sky, and brings light to every room he comes in. His excitement is contagious, everybody loves him. So of course you thought he would never bite an eye on you.
Youâre wrong.
One day after a meeting he came to talk to you. With no subject on table, he just came to chat and pass time with you. A few weeks later he is sharing his food with you, inviting you to places and telling you everything that comes to his mind. His cheerful mood makes you feel so comfortable around him that you don't even realize that Rengoku has fallen for you too.
But this man is an old-fashioned one! If he has a crush, he has to conquer this heart it in the most honorable way possible, even if you already have fallen for him. So please, wait just a little more until he finds a way to properly ask you out. He needs to be sure heâll be a good match for you.Â
âYou look especially beautiful today, Y/N! Why donât you come eat with me again tonight?â

Who got the Persona 5 reference? hehe
A lil yandere vibes come to uzui...
watched with those sharp, observant eyes. watched as you laughed from your core, lightly hitting that other guyâs shoulder. watched as his hand lingered on your arm for way longer than it should have. watched his eyes wander where they shouldnât.
his chest swelled with an uncomfortable, unfamiliar feeling, grip on his can tightening.
he watched as you pointed towards him, giving him a reassuring smile. the other guyâs face twisted, slightly, yet noticeable to kitaâs eyes.
bidding the other guy goodbye, you walk over to your boyfriend, waving and smiling as if nothing happened.
âready to go?â you asked kita, hand resting on his arm. he only nods and smiles, still stiff with a tight heart.
the drive home was silent, the only noise being the quiet radio. as you enter the door, your boyfriend closes it behind you. as soon as he does, youâre pressed gently towards the wall, kitaâs hands cupping your face before kissing you â passionate, deep, slow.
your hands rest on his shoulders, lightly tapping with your finger, gently asking him to pull away.
âyou okay, shin?â you asked, voice laced with worry. his hands softly grazed your sides, placing them behind your back as he hummed and nodded. he leans forward to find your lips again, but you stopped him.
âtalk to me,â you whispered. you tiptoe forward to place your lips on the corner of his mouth, sweet and reassuring. âiâm here.â
he looked down for a bit, bangs covering his eyes. he fiddles his fingers behind you, wondering how to put his feelings into words.
âwho was that guy?â he asked, voice timid and eyes still averted.
âan old friend, shin. just caught me and wanted to catch up,â you answered, brushing his bangs out of the way. he hums and takes a second to think.
âhe was⌠really touchy,â he muttered. you sigh knowing just what he was talking about, but your heart skipped a beat knowing kita even noticed.
âhe knows i have a boyfriend,â you replied, hand reaching up to cup his face. you lean forward to find his eyes, and once you do, his soften. âhe knows i have you, shin.â he hums in response, chin up now to face you, eyes glimmering.
âiâm all yours, yeah?â you softly asked. he returns your smile, holding your back closer to him. still shy and hesitant, he hums and nods.
âall mineâŚâ he mutters, parroting your words, but mostly saying it to himself. you tiptoe once more, pulling his face closer to meet his lips.
the kiss is tender, slow, soft. each movement felt like a promise, sworn and true for the rest of time.

LAW
Unlike some of the other pirates around, Law kept up with the news and goings on in the world regardless of if there was an inkling his or the crews bounties would go up or not. He needed to be aware of everything going on at all times in order to plan the best course of action and leave very little room for surprises should the next island he came to be already in the middle of some drama that could be either avoided or exploited. One morning he walked into the dining room of the Polar Tang to join the rest of the crew for breakfast. Grabbing his morning coffee he took his usual seat and flicked open the paper, beginning to leisurely read through it while enjoying idle conversation with the rest of the crew.Â
âHey Captain can I-â Penguinâs question was cut off immediately when Law was already pulling out the so-called âentertainment' section of the paper and passed it across the table. That was the one section he felt was an entire waste of paper and ink and only glanced at just incase something of note had slipped through. Most of the time though? Even the barest glance felt like a handful of seconds heâd never get back due to the pointless garbage written on the pages. âThank Cap!â Law gave a non-committal grunt in acknowledgement to his subordinateâs thanks and trained his attention instead into a story about political unrest affecting two neighbouring islands.Â
Unfortunately his focus was interrupted when Penguin suddenly let out a gasp just as he was taking a bite of his breakfast causing him to choke. Law set his paper down and rose sharply, making his way directly to his friend. It was a relief that in that time Law approached, Penguin had managed to dislodge the food and caught his breath. âOi, why didnât you chew? Nearly gave us a heart attack!â Law lectured, using his relief to fuel his panicked lecture. Penguin nervously shifted in his seat and with another clearing of his throat he shakily turned over the entertainment section to show Law and the others what had caused his mishap. Lawâs eyes dropped to the print and they widened, sharply snatching it from the table just as you walked in with a long yawn breaking from your lips. âMorninâ guysâŚâ
When no-one answered you blinked and frowned at the group in confusion. Stepping closer you looked over Lawâs shoulder to see what had gotten his and everyone elseâs attention. Similar to Law, your eyes bugged and you pulled his arm towards you so you could get a better look, as iff the extra inch of space would make the page change from what you couldnât believe you were seeing. First was the eye-popping headline âHOT PIRATE OF THE WEEK: HEART PIRATESâ HEARTBREAKER!â Filling the page were images of you standing on the dock of the Polar Tang on one of the occasions the sub had surfaced and you were performing maintenance on the vessel.Â
Slowly you remembered that day. It had been so hot that you had to undo the top of your boiler suit and tie the sleeves around your waist to reveal the tank top you'd been wearing underneath. Your skin was lightly sheened with sweat and cheek smeared with a small streak of oil. Nervously you rubbed the back of your neck as you looked over the images, you were just doing your job but somehow the photographer had managed to take countless photos, all of them very flattering. It did unnerve you slightly to think that everyone would see you like this along with cheesy one-liners of âthey can perform maintenance on me any day,â âtune me up,â âletâs let off some steam,â and your favourite âCaptain Law, can we join your crew?â
Nervously you chewed your lip and looked away to finally see your Captainâs reaction, fearing he would lecture you. Instead it surprised you to see the back of his neck and his cheeks were tinged a very noticeable pink as his eyes were glued to your pictures. Unable to help yourself you couldnât help but smile slightly, pleased and a little giddy that he was looking appreciatively. Still you needed to break the silent tension. âIâm surprised they got my good side.â
âYou stupid? Every side is your good side.â Law asked suddenly, his mouth acting while his brain was still distracted. Your eyes widened and lit in shock at Lawâs words, your smile growing when realisation hit your usually serious Captain that heâd said it aloud. Flustered and unable to recover, Law swiftly turned and left the room to the safety of his office and you grinned wider to notice heâd kept a firm hold on the paper as he left.
SMOKER
Something strange was happening at G5 and it was pissing Smoker off to no end. Every few minutes calls and missives came through, the influx a lot more than normal. The usual missions and reports were overwhelmed with transfer requests coming from all sections of the worldâs seas. Part of him thought it was a well co-ordinated prank being pulled on him from the different divisions by very bored and motivated Marines that he must have angered in some way. This had to have been a prank or revenge it had to. There was no way all these requests to come to G5 was genuine.Â
It hadnât even reached mid-morning yet and what little patience he had was gone when the next transfer request came through. Angrily Smoker slammed his hand down on his desk and rose from his desk, having had more than enough nonsense to last him a lifetime. If he stayed in his office for much longer, heâd be driven to making his own transfer request to get away from it all. Needing a distraction to clear his head, Smoker began to walk aimlessly in search of what seemed like the quietest section of the base. In his mind he thought if it was quiet then that meant there would be no-one around to pester him.Â
âSmoker!â Smoker came to an abrupt halt and turned his head sharply to see you approach him, your pace quickened and expression just as frustrated and annoyed as he was. Your own sour mood was probably why you werenât trying to stay out of his way. Now finding his distraction, Smoker faced you properly. You huffed out a sharp breath, relieved that the commander had finally snapped out of whatever he was thinking about and stopped long enough for you to catch up and stop in front of him. âDidnât you hear me calling you?â
âWasnât paying attention to anything really.â Smoker explained, only now noticing his cigars had burned to nothing. Grabbing two more from his jacket he lit them and placed them into his mouth, taking a fresh inhale of the nicotine helping to make him more grounded. Releasing the breath of smoke, he used his ability to direct it away from your face as he focussed his attention on you. âSo what did you need?â
âJust a general inquiry.â You began while trying to control your anger while it was still fresh. In a base full of short fuses you at least tried to stay levelheaded around your commander. You took a slow breath and looked to him, still unable to keep the scowl from your face. âHow much trouble would I get in for beating up a newspaper employee?â
âNot like you to get so hotheaded about journalistsâŚâ You let out a bitter scoff at the word âjournalistâ and your hand holding the rolled up paper tightened to the point the paper crinkled loud enough to make Smokerâs gaze drop from your face. âWhatâs been reported?â
âYou havenât seen it?â You asked, momentarily confused. You thought everyone else had. Or was he acting dumb on purpose so you would have to relive your embarrassment in realtime in front of him. Deep down you knew that wasn't Smokerâs nature, and his mirrored look of confusion confirmed that. With a sigh you lifted your hand, offering the rolled up paper to him.Â
Smoker lightly tugged the paper out of your reluctant grip and let it unfurl. Knowing this had to be personal for you he flicked through the pages in search of the cause for your wish to cause harm to a civilian. Finally he found it, or rather it practically jumped out at him when he turned the page. Your image filled the page, the photo capturing you mid-battle. One foot had connected with the blurred shape of a pirate while your body was arched, your weapon in hand and aimed at another enemy. Smoker took in your form, eyebrows raised at how poised and strong you were. What got him the most was the fearsome, intense edge lighting your eyes, your focus entirely on stopping the pirates that had tried to ransack a village. All in all it was an extremely flattering story about your heroism and undeniable strength. Yes, there were some comments about your attractiveness but Smoker couldnât exactly argue, not when the facts were so clearly staring him in the face-both on paper and in person.Â
Finally Smokerâs eyes zeroed in on how the story piece stated you were a part of the G5 base and he let out a huff of frustration and amusement. So this was the reason for his morning-long headache. âYou just have to live with it. Thereâll be a different story by tomorrow.â Smoker shrugged calmly and handed the paper back to you. âDonât let something like this bother you. Okay?â
âItâs embarrassing.â You grumbled. âWhy did they have to fill a page with my picture? Why even use my picture at all?â
âWhy not? It looks good.â Your head snapped up at Smokerâs murmured comment, eyes widened and heat prickling the back of your neck. He looked completely composed and stoic, acting as if he hadnât said anything at all but you knew what you heard. Instead he lightly tapped your shoulder and started to head back towards his office, idly calling after you as he went. âIf youâll excuse me I have transfer requests to formally reject. Just keep up the good work.â
