Depressing, Anon! And since you didnât say how you wanted it to end, I kinda left it up to the reader! Enjoy!
The words left Tsukishima in an effort to spare her from delivering the news that was surely about to leave her lips. Because why else was she there now after she had been avoiding him for so long looking as though she were about to cry. His mouth opened just before herâs, effectively cutting her off to say, âItâs okay, I want to break up too.â And he thought they would be relieved, thankful that he had removed the burden from them.
But that wasnât the look he was getting now. She stared, eyes wide, her chin trembling, hands shaking violently. âOh,â the single syllable broke in her throat and she looked as though there was more she wanted to say, but the words coming. Her jaw tightened as her gaze dropped to her hands which reached forward to grab his own where she placed a single silver band in his palm. âI⌠sorry for assuming thatâŚâ she couldnât finish anything that was running through her head. Cotton felt like it was getting stuck in her throat as the stinging increased in her eyes.
Tsukishimaâs lips were parted in surprise, his eyes wide on the ring that now felt heavy in the palm of his hand. When he finally able to tear his gaze away from the band, they fell on her where she remained rooted before him, tears now tracing down her cheeks. It was pathetic really, but⌠shit, he messed up. Reaching forward, he took hold of her trembling hand, unsurprised when she attempted to pull away from him. He let her, allowing his hand to drop back to his side. âLetâs talk about this, yeah?â
He wasnât about to leave it ending like this.
It made Terushima nervous seeing her so tensed up where they stood in the hallway. She looked like she had something heavy on her chest to say and he was more than sure he knew what it was. Had he seen this coming? No, not really. But if this is what she wanted, then he was going to give it to her. He couldnât keep her in something that she didnât want to be a part of anymore.
âYou donât have to say it, I know,â he spoke at last, gaining him the shocked look of her gaze.
âYou do?â the nervous air around her seemed to increase, her hands gripped so tightly together than her knuckles began to turn white.
Terushima shrugged, pushing his hands into his pockets, gaze purposefully avoiding her now, âSure, I wanted to break up too, I guess.â The words sounded weird coming from his lips, almost bitter, but he wanted to spare her, let her know that she wasnât the bad guy in this situation.
âYou⌠you do?â her voice was different, strained. He brought his attention back to her and was surprised to see the way her face quickly contorted with sorrow at those few words. He panicked, hands pulling free to reach for her, but he froze unsure of what to do. She was moving then too, shoving her hand at his chest, where his own followed to discover a small black box before she was running in the opposite direction.
He stared after her for a moment, watching long after she disappeared before bringing himself to open the newly acquired box. His heart instantly fell at the sight of the shining golden band. âShitâŚâ he messed up. Without another moment's hesitation he was moving after her. They had some things to talk about.
