Watched obsession last night which was a very disturbing and unsettling experience because for most of the movie I was pretty much all in like yeah wow this is such a good fun horror movie love the tension love the scares love the “commentary”! Until the very last few scenes when it dawned on me that I wasn’t watching something aware of itself at all and I had instead partaken in some woman hating freak’s rape and torture fetish porn. Yeah

Obsession ends with a “Final Girl” who didnt outrun, outsmart or fight off anything at all. She happens to be the last one standing by sheer luck and magic. And it just ends with her visceral traumatised grief, and the audience being aware that nothing good is coming for her, she’ll just continue to be victimised.

If this movie had any respect for its female characters she would have at least STOOD UP at the end. She was still paralysed in the very last shot!!!
