it rules how phil collins was rocking that hard while looking and dressing like a 90s sales manager
Now that everyone is discussing Nolan's Odyssey movie, I feel like it's a good time to let non-Italians know that the production dumped plastic props into the Italian sea. Weirdly enough I could not find any article in English about it but it's a fucking problem nonetheless.
I might translate this article later today. This one was the most complete one, even in Italian news it's not talked about that much.
Non è la prima volta che la produzione solleva un vespaio in Sicilia. A Lipari una squadra di sub sarebbe però già impegnata a bonificare i
They dumped plastic skeletons in environmentally protected areas, against the literal contracts they had to sign to get the permits to film in environmentally protected areas. Like they not only did a bad ecological thing that freaked out some divers, they literally broke environmental protection laws and their contract with the Italian government
They also filmed in illegally occupied territories in western sahara
Sahrawi filmmakers criticise Christopher Nolan for complicity in Moroccan exploitation of Sahrawi land

I think one thing I do like this show is, the writing quality for black characters are far better than other shows with less black characters in it. And they even put mind into building the diversity according to their cast, namely, they adjusted and changed the book settings, making the character Jerry Edgar on the show to be Haitian. I rarely saw black Carribbean represented in USAmerican TV shows, one of those times left me mixed feelings (Black Sails, where black Carribbeans aren't even major part of the story despite the nature of the history), and even more scarce for Haitian representation. So I guess this is a nice addition.
It was really nice because he couldn't even remember what happened to his parents' country around the time they got out, the show made him to relearn that part of history. (well, he's acutely aware that Haiti is the first black republic tho)
I have nothing but the most respect for character actors (see my pfp, Anthony Valentine, a quintessential character actor) but I always know even if they change roles and all that, they'll bring elements from their life experience to make the role more convincing. The thing here is with Marlo and his actor (that he himself describing that he took words literally, no reading in between, and very focused and driven lol) and of course those character actors are nothing like their roles in reality. But this elements-brining thing, is kind of real.
I feel bad that I feel smug liking this type of work. But then again, I can't change what I am.
