Uzi - Sprawled out on her back. I mean, we’ve seen this in one of the music video teaser images, but I’d go further as to say that she often tosses and turns in her sleep. She does this less if N is with her, as she’d be cuddling him like a koala. It makes her feel more settled.

N - Like a log. He’s quite energetic in his waking life, but he’s a very heavy sleeper. He lies either on his side or back. His sleep is usually enhanced if he’s cuddling Uzi.

V - Whether she sleeps on a bed or hanging by her tail depends on how she feels. If she feels normal and unstressed, she’ll hang by her tail. If she’s greatly distressed, then she will sleep on a bed, typically in the foetal position, as it makes her feel more protected.

J - Similar deal as V, although she will more often hang by her tail, even if she feels distressed. If she wishes to sleep on the ground, then she will take up the coffin position as it gives her a sense of neatness and efficiency. It also works while she still lives in the pod, as space is more cramped in there.

just make it exist first.

She grins like an idiot and approaches V from behind. She veeery carefully grabs the cord of V’s tail, careful not to tug or jostle it too much. V can’t feel that Lizzy has grabbed her tail, she can only feel if someone tugs or pulls on the tail. Tessa watches with a confused look. Lizzy slowly pushes V’s tail off to the right. As she pushes the tail to the right V seems to slowly lean off to the left, the opposite direction. V suddenly starts to look around and spots Lizzy messing her tail. She snatches her tail right out of Lizzy’s hands

V: “GIVE ME THAT!!”

Lizzy: “HAHAHAH!!”

V quickly leaves, spacing herself from touchy little worker drone hands

Tessa: “what did you do!”

Lizzy: “their tail helps with counter balance as well as directional guiding. If you manually move the tail the sky demons will subconsciously turn or lean in the opposite direction”

(this came out of a conversation in the comments on a previous post about an author threatening to stop updating a fic because of lack of engagement)

So there’s this idea that fic writers should write for themselves and not care too much about stats or engagement,

and i totally get the sentiment behind that. if writing becomes entirely about stats and external validation, something important does get lost - creative freedom and joy, conviction in your own writing

but i also think:

“i write for myself, but i post for others.”

because posting fic is not only self-expression. it’s social. ao3 is called an archive, but emotionally it often functions as a community space.

people post for connection, for participation, for others to bear witness to their pain and trauma and grief,

and i don’t think most people are asking to be admired so much as acknowledged. there’s something deeply human about wanting another person to encounter something that mattered to you and go:

“ok, yeah, I see what you were trying to say. I see you.”

especially because fanfic is often people processing very real feelings through fictional characters at a safe distance, one step removed,

and then uploading that deeply personal thing into a shared archive and hoping somebody else might connect with it.

And i think that’s why it hurts so much when you summon up the courage and post a fic into the void and you get nothing back,

and then it’s like,

V and N don't really tell her either, previous Headcanons of mine in place about how Uzi would actually be a good admin added in too, and there's basically nothing that even implies to her that she's been their admin the whole time. It's not until the two bring it up when Uzi's talking about helping them change their code to reduce how fast the oil they consume is used up that she learns she's been their admin the whole time.

And Uzi's terrified. She thinks she messed up somehow, offers immediately to de-admin herself from their code, apologizing and saying she meant to give them the opportunity to make themselves their own admins. But N and V tell her that they DID have the choice, and chose to make her their admins.

Uzi's got no clue what to make of it, because for Worker Drones on Copper-9, administrative access is something VERY intimate. All of them are their own admins, except for a very small few who decided to become each other's admins. Something seen as even more intimate than marriage. A level of intimacy that a large portion of the population wouldn't even consider for a moment because the amount of trust it requires is just that high.

But V and N are just talking about how awesome it is that she's their admin (V is acting like she doesn't give a damn but is also smiling and refuses the switch Uzi offers up) and N is hyping up how much better of an admin she is compared to Cyn— which is how Uzi learns about how specifically the DDs are affected by their admins.

And poor Uzi's flustered beyond comparison because, well, she grew up knowing through hushed whispers how her parents were planning on making each other their admins. She KNOWS what that means. And she spends a good 15 minutes hyping herself up to explain why they shouldn't make the information public if they really don't wanna change it. They blush so badly their visors are just pure yellow for a bit, but also don't remove her as their admin.
