the eldest of the birley children, gideon birley was given just about anything he could want as a child … except freedom from the leash that his family attached to him from the moment he was brought into the world, and a decision against being a hunter.

highly private ( a proclivity formed in his early childhood ), gideon took to watching others and learning their habits. his adoration of mysteries and true crime thrillers were paralleled only by the natural curiosity the boy had, and an innately friendly disposition to those who took the time to spare a word. perhaps it was just an interest in the world he learned about hand-in-hand with basic human nature, gideon always found himself thirsting to know more about the supernatural citizens of saints.

family interests always seemed to override his own on a level of importance: gideon was thrust into many hobbies growing up and forced to tack along with values he cared very little for. business was something he found interest in, an attempt to escape the violent and somewhat bloodthirsty eye of his family, in the realm of their own personal hobbies.

despite his preference for keeping the quiet eye on his surroundings, gideon has always maintained a stern composition - he has an excellent capacity to speak up and eloquently, surely something trained into him from his youth.

he’s lived in saints his entire life, only moving for college and immediately back. still, he seeks to break that short leash the birley family has on him - a quiet and very private wish.

he serves as a councilmember for hunters, though he prefers a non-violent route as he’s always shunned his upbringing as a weapon, and much to the chagrin of his family prefers a quieter role —watching as the tensions build and surmising crimes committed within the limits of the city, as well as the reactions of his fellow councilmembers to gauge their positions and likeliness of involvement (good or otherwise).

gideon used his MBA to start a private investigation firm, birley investigations, which looks into all cases … human or otherwise.

he’s private, but always watching. quiet, but not meek. gideon simply knows better than to advertise his knowledge … without charging a nominal fee.

privately, and as a hobby, he works as a luthier —making and restoring guitars. his truest of interests has always lay with music, something he was turned off from pursuing as a child. he has a collection in his home.

gideon is not an active hunter. despite the conditioning his parents instilled onto him as a child, despite his label and his position ---he wholly refuses to participate in something he views as entirely barbaric. so much so, that he doesn’t even entertain the conversation of hunting outside of his position, which he’d sooner use as a platform to promote peace than violence.

partner: working as a private investigator is a lot of work. this individual would either need to know about the supernatural ( or be a member of their species ) and help gideon with those types of cases, or be human who has no idea and simply works the plain cases. someone gideon has known for a while, and trusts with the business. they’re not quite equals, but this partner is the next best thing to gideon himself as the owner. 0/1 - wc on the main.

family: simple as that. there’s 3 open spots for siblings of some and any fashion and family dynamic can be discussed and plotted as family appears. 0/3.

adopted daughter: not officially, but it might be as good as. in his endless quest to spite his parents and his birthright, gideon will give the skin off of his own back if it means helping someone who needs it. enter his adopted kid ---family acquaintances through hunting where they met the wrong end of a werewolf bite and showed up on his doorstep, bloody and terrified. it took zero seconds for gideon to let them in, to look after them, and to keep them safe. his door is always open for them, a room always made up, and affection always offered in only the way a pseudo-parent can. nobody should be punished for what they are, and he’ll end the world to keep them safe, if he has to. 1/1 - odette batista.

best friends: he’s bound to have them. people who know him like the back of their hand, and vice versa. inside jokes, mischief, the whole nine. these are his bread and butter, his people. he’d kill for them, really. 0/2.

close friends: like the above, but perhaps not as close. while strangers and those who are unfamiliar with gideon might claim he’s quiet ( and for the most part, he is ) these people know him for how he really can be. they grab beers together, they go to the gym together, they make shit happen. you know, friend stuff. 2/3. - lauren darrow, saniyah jordan.

ex-wife: it happened fast, many years ago. an act of rebellion against his parents - a formal fuck you and everything you stand for when it came to pressuring his life. the marriage lasted a whole year before it dissolved, and gideon passed the idea of alimony over to his now ex-wife ---something the birley family funds. in the end he got the last laugh with it, though there’s still some unresolved something there, even this many years later. 1/1 - aslı kaya yıldırım.

ex-girlfriends: gideon isn’t one for serious relationships so much, if only because work is busy and his attention lays either with that or with council work, when it comes up. he’s been in saints for almost his entire life, so he’s bound to have had a few more serious relationships. nothing for more than a couple of years at best, and whether or not they ended amicably or not is up for discussion. he would have always been loyal to the relationship, never stepping out, even if he let work take his main focus more often than not. details can absolutely be discussed, open to any species. 0/3.

current lover: something on and off. work, their lives, something separates them. she and gideon go months without seeing each other, then have bursts of spending an inane amount of time together. emotions have never been discussed, as far as gideon knows it’s just a physical thing, but more can be plotted. whether they’re currently on or off and how they got together initially can also be plotted out. open to any species. 0/1.
