Safe Havens For LGBTI Travelers; New Maps and Survey Show Sexual Orientation Laws Around The World
Forbes writes:
For travelers in the LGBTI community, knowing the laws of the land can be critical to safety; a new report aims to help. [âŚ]
The survey was released earlier this week by the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA), a federation of more than 1,200 member organizations from 132 countries committed to equal human rights for the LGBTI community. The Geneva-based group enjoys consultative status at the United Nations.

This incredible 95-year-old transwoman flight instructor found love late in lifeâ only to be denied social security benefits by the government because sheâs not cisgender
A beautiful interview with a woman who transitioned in 1976 shows how life for transgender people has changed over the years, although some terrible consequences remain the same.
PROCLAMATION
WHEREAS, trans women are systematically excluded from and marginalized by literary culture,
WHEREAS, even within LGBT literary and creative worlds, trans women are egregiously and flagrantly underrepresented,
WHEREAS, even in venues that welcome, support, and encourage transgender men, full inclusion of transgender women remains an abstracted fantasy, including at the Lambda Literary Writersâ Retreat, where trans men are as numerous as stars in the sky but, every year, for each of the last four years, only a single, solitary, individual trans woman writer has been invited to participate,
WHEREAS, mainstream literary publications such as the Antioch Review routinely deny opportunities to trans women while simultaneously throwing open their doors to those who wish to denigrate, disparage, and dehumanize trans women,
WHEREAS, all writers deserve nurturing, humanizing, and accessible opportunities to develop their craft, engage with their creative peers, and discover professional opportunities,
WHEREAS, literature, art, and creative expression are foundational elements of every vibrant and effective political movement, and trans women artists have, for decades, agitated for for change on the front lines of human conflict and struggle around the world,
WHEREAS, investments made in supporting trans women writers in achieving the full measure of their potential contribute directly to the vision of a more hopeful future for transgender women, cisgender women, and all humankind on planet Earth,
NOW, THEREFORE, WE, editors at Topside Press, do hereby proclaim Summer 2016 as
SUMMER OF TRANS WOMEN WRITERS
and encourage all trans women to apply to participate in our inaugural summer intensive writersâ workshop, to be held in New York City from August 15-19, 2016.

Signal boost--Class of 2016
If anyone out there knows a Black trans or gender non-conforming college student who is graduating with the class of 2016, please let me know. Iâm looking for interview subjects for a video project with Blavity.
For the sake of shooting purposes, the subject would preferably be in New York City. However, because this is such a specific ask, Iâm open to interviewing anyone within a reasonable driving distance of New York (say 2-3 hours max).
Even if you donât know any students, suggestions on activists or groups in the LGBTQ community that you think would be helpful for leads would be greatly appreciated.
You can email me at [email protected] to follow up with any suggestions or questions about the project.
We didnât have a word for our, as you guys call, gay/lesbian people. So we coined that word as an umbrella for all our tribes. We never said, âWell, youâre transgender. Youâre bisexual. Youâre lesbian.â We never knew those terms. Those are all from Western culture, you know, LGBTQ and all that. So on some level, itâs about getting rid of labels. Those terms were forced upon us.

The Change Project, in partnership with the Bisexual Resource Center, is putting out a call for article submissions for âOMG! Iâm Bi and I Live in the South,â a resource guide for bisexual+ youths in the South. The deadline is April 15th!
ATTENTION TRANS PEOPLE
if you are looking for a name change but cant afford the basically $400 like most people then go to your local court house and ask for an âindigent formâ that form you will state that you cant afford to change your name. so then it will be free if very little.
feel free to add to this if other states have any more information
Landon told me to do this so when I went to the county clerks office I asked for a fee waiver, I had to go to the law library to get the right paperwork then filled out my income and my monthly expenses and they waived my $290 court fee. I still had to pay for the notary and fingerprints and whatnot before all that but it ended up being around $50 total rather than $300+ definitely look into it if you need some financial help with this process!
Additionally this link had all the info for name changes in TX that I needed: http://www.transequality.org/documents/state/texas
(I think you can go on that site and select other states as well so it should be helpful!)
