I’m probably 70ish years late to the party on this but I just watched The Enemy Below (1957, directed by Dick Powell, starring Robert Mitchum and Curd Jürgens) and damn I wish we had more movies like this today. 97 minutes, doesn’t overstay its welcome except for dragging a bit at the very end, lovable cast, tight script, and beautiful effects (there’s a reason it won an Academy Award for Special Effects)
For Star Trek fans you can also see the clear inspirations behind the Original Series Season 1 episode “Balance of Terror” between the American captain and the German captain. The American Captain and his First Officer is like if Kirk had Riker instead of Spock and the German Captain with his second in command is pretty similar to what we see in Balance of Terror with the Romulan Commander played by Mark Lenard.
I really recommend it for any TOS fans. It honestly helped me appreciate Balance of Terror even more and it was already one of my favorite TOS episodes.
What’s the difference between a Western and a Post-Western? There are obvious examples of each but the exact line between them is vague if one exists at all. Are westerns outlaws vs outlaws and post-westerns outlaws vs the government? Is it the themes of a land of opportunity vs a land of civility? Manifest Destiny vs Industrialization?
I don’t have any thesis or argument, just sorta typing out loud. I suppose post-westerns are more about the end of an era along with themes of letting go of an idealized past to allow a gentler future to take hold. For the metaphorical gunslinger to either put down his revolver or let his corpse be added to the foundation that future is built on. Would that make Star Trek 6 a post-western? Would that make both Red Dead Redemption games post-westerns?
Also, any good recommendations for western novels or movies? I’ve already seen the Dollars Trilogy, Cowboy Bebop, Once Upon A Time In The West, Logan, and a couple Kurosawa movies which are Samurai films but thematically are very similar to westerns to the point where For a Fistful of Dollars still owes royalties to Akira Kurosawa because of how much it’s based on Yojimbo.
I might have said this before in the past but as Andor Season 2 approaches I want to say that I really like the theme of “climbing” in Season 1. Each arc ends with Cassian literally ascending. In the Ferrix arc in the premiere he and Luthen are escaping the planet while at the same time in the flashbacks Maarva is “saving” him from Kenari and her and Clem escape the incoming Republic ship. In the second arc Nemik (Rest in Peace) literally tells him to “Climb!” Through the Eye of Aldhani. You can hear the prisoners telling Cassian and each other to “climb” as they escape Narkina 5.
The exception being in the finale where Cassian is the one who tells Bix, Brasso, and B2EMO to “fly until you’re over the water, then *climb*.”
All throughout S1 he meets people who physically and metaphorically lift him up, and by the end he’s the one raising up his loved ones while he goes to join the Rebellion.
And, of course, “Climb!” Is the last thing K-2SO says to Cassian before he dies on Scarif.
I love this motif so much so I’ll just throw in a few more…
Inspired by Cassian, Kino tells the Narkina 5 prisoners “you need to run, climb, KILL!” … as they climb out of the factory floor and up to the platforms over the sea.
In their youth, Cassian climbed over Bix’s salyard wall to see her despite her father‘s disapproval and he climbs in again (and reminisces about it) in episode 7. When he rescues her, Bix says “I dreamt you came back. You climbed over a wall” 😢
Bix herself climbs the radio tower to send a message to Luthen that with the domino effect will end up saving the galaxy. The overhead shot replicates the same angle of the interior of the Citadel Tower in Rogue One, with Jyn and Cassian’s desperate climb to send a message that … will end up saving the galaxy.

the unresolved storyline of cassian’s missing sister is so poignant to me. life doesn’t always give you closure. him and his sister were separated and never reunited, and her that absence is something that motivated him until the very end. it was such a bold choice to leave it a mystery, and i respect that SO much 🙏
Not to mention the poetry of the last episode showing Cassian dreaming of his sister just like he was in the very beginning.
Repeat after me:
The Jedi taught emotional control, not repression.
The Jedi took kids with parental consent, they did not kidnap them.
The Jedi did not hold people against their will, they could leave the Order at any time.
The Jedi were not "just as bad" as the Sith.

I work for the President of the United States, Ms. Minogue. I don't work for Hugh Jackman.
Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t it the point of the show that *all* rich people are stupid bitches?

Me when I'm throwing cheese slices at the local cybertuck
"reblogged"
no I posted this and also I will have u know that while looking for an image to make this joke I had to see an edgy code geass quote edit that I MADE at the age of 13
i can do all things through kendrick lamar’s spite which strengthens me, so when i opened tiktok and the very first video on my fyp was the boy who raped me in college, i decided to name and shame. i showed my proof, the texts he sent me where he admitted it.
apparently he’s married with step kids now, and his wife saw it and lemme tell you what she is so mad at me it’s comical.
i’ve been informed come monday (feb 23rd, which is tomorrow), i’ll be sued and i can’t wait to bring all of you along for the ride.
more updates to come. in the meantime, please enjoy his admittance and a handful of the (now mostly deleted) 100 or so comments she left.
Not to attack anyone or hate on actually valid takes, but a lot of you project your problems with real life religions/religious organizations into the Jedi and criticize them for things that they NEVER did.... Like babe, the Jedi never did that, the catholics did.
On top of that, the Jedi get so much hate being seen as an order that represses emotions when that was pretty much just Anakin. Almost everyone else is well adjusted because it’s about *letting go* of your emotions not bottling them or holding onto them selfishly. You are allowed to feel grief, joy, sadness, and even hate and love! But as a Jedi you have to be able to process those emotions and let them go when more important matters of life and death come up. Granted a lot of these misconceptions come from George being bad at explaining them, plus being explained through the mouthpiece of an angry 19 year old in Attack of The Clones.

Harmless headcanon just because I think it’s fun: but I choose to believe that Twin Peaks and Gravity Falls are set in the same universe. Twin Peaks just ended up with some of Gravity Falls’ innate weirdness.
Bordering-on-fanfic levels of headcanon here but what if one of the reasons why an FBI agent got sent to Twin Peaks (in addition to the possibility of her being a serial killer’s victim) was because of the weirdness readings from the area south of there a few years prior when Ford got zapped into the Nightmare Realm.
