HUGE fan of trees growing in places they should not reasonably be able to
upside down
sideways
out of a rock
upside down in a freakin LAKE
out of an Indiana courthouse
out of ANOTHER
GODDAMN
TREE
none of that is a reasonable expectation!!!
i like trees
The night gardener once asked me if I knew how citrus trees died: when they reach old age, if they are not cut down and they manage to survive drought, disease and innumerable attacks of pests, fungi and plagues, they succumb from overabundance. When they come to the end of their life cycle, they put out a final, massive crop of lemons. In their last spring their flowers bud and blossom in enormous bunches and fill the air with a smell so sweet that it stings your nostrils from two blocks away; then their fruits ripen all at once, whole limbs break off due to their excessive weight, and after a few weeks the ground is covered with rotting lemons. It is a strange sight, he said, to see such exuberance before death.

Feb 2026, looks like a little fairy lives there
📷: @venomousdoll
Did you know that oxalis, the purple and black clover there, will fold like butterfly wings if it's too bright, to prevent sunscald?
Oh that's so interesting! I've had one a few years ago and always assumed it just moved accordingly to the times of day.
Sooo.....basically they could get a sunburn 🫢⛱️
Yep! They do close at night and open during the day, but they also do that in excessive sunlight!

Y'ALL?!
#LOOKY LOOK!!!!! :D#PLANT#IT’S GROWING#IT *HAS* GROWN#plants#reblogs w/ friends#bri
More to the point, it's blooming. I had completely forgotten that aloes even did that.
Blooming aloe is sooooo cool! (It's not hot enough to happen here, but maybe in a greenhouse... (One day))
Is there anything I ought to know about it?
The plant won't die after it blooms, so you're good there, but you'll still want to trim the flower once it wilts and before it goes to seed anyway, so the plant doesn't waste energy on trying to reproduce. Trim where the flower stock joins the plant when it's time.

Three years ago today. I love this bit of video. Not sure why.
Because this looks like a Monet painting or an old watercolour anime background come to life?! I was in utter disbelief until it started moving.
More than just a Monet painting, one of the ones just after he started going blind! When things started getting brighter, more colorful, and soft around the edges! A true living masterpiece!
This is an environment post
Because even environmental activists are stupid
Also, even if there is a crop, you have to factor in:
Soil erosion requiring topsoil replacement
Soil amendments like (chemical) fertilizers
Equipment to till, plant, and harvest the crops creating impacting by manufacturing and maintenance
The fuel needed to run the equipment
Impact of using pesticides and herbicides on the surrounding environment
GMO crops cross pollinating and ruining organic farms in the area
does anyone else remember grass. the warmth of the sun
Do you remember the Shire, Mr. Frodo? It’ll be spring soon. And the orchards will be in blossom. And the birds will be nesting in the hazel thicket. And they’ll be sowing the summer barley in the lower fields… and eating the first of the strawberries with cream. Do you remember the taste of strawberries?
