post disclaimer: im posting this on my accord because its about my friend. also i disagree with this view on franco.
saying someone is "weird" about franco barbi, a fictional character, known for his perversion, misogyny and sickening actions + behavior, because they dont believe he was necessarily a victim of SA is out of touch. "you couldve been great" + "the potential was there" are such twatty things to say if you take a step back and look at what it is youre defending: "franco barbi was sexually assaulted and groomed by angelina." franco barbi. franco. barbi. youre saying someone is less than because they dont agree with a bastardization of his character. thats weird.
"they have a whole post about it on their tumblr still" because its her take of his character like anyone has, but also, she has deleted it because she wasn't proud of how she expressed her thoughts and didn't want to hurt anyone, as well as apologized for anyone she had affected and stated she saw other people's perspective.
this view of franco being a victim is only made odd by comments like these. you can think that way, but to make it the entire focus of his character like this is strange. out of everything he has done, thats the one thing thats hyperfixated on to the point where its okay to talk like this about someone who doesnt think he was a victim of angelina. out of all his murdering sprees, rapes and assaults and killings of sex workers (wheres your outrage on this btw?), the hyperfixation is his "assault" by angelina. there is rarely any acnowledgement of the literal trail of bodies he left behind him leading up to the relationship he had with her that would back the claim that franco is the assailant. a vulnerable one, with unwell, wrongly developed, salacious views of a mother, but an assailant nonetheless.
that also is exactly why the term "woobifying" is used. to focus on an alleged assault (there is *no* clear cut evidence by the way) and in the same breath choose to be misogynistic and project misogynistic stereotypes onto a woman who makes no direct appearance is woobifying. you can think franco was abused by her, sure, i agree they were unhealthy of course, and angelina took advantage of whatever position he put her in. though for a mafia wife in the 50s, to immediately jump to conclusions that she was a bad person shows a very ignorant thought process. not in a mean way, just genuinely not knowing. and lastly:
"even if he was an adult she's still a bitch. she cheated on her husband with his son." i actually think you need to log off for a moment. go outside. read a book. youre being misogynistic to a BARELY mentioned female character to defend FRANCO? you also clearly have no grasp of what italian mafias were like, or even know the bare minimum of salvatore who killed his wives and had multiple partners. he was likely double angelina's age, making *that* a predatory relationship, but shes the bitch here. this im most angry about, truthfully. think franco is a victim of hers, fine, yet to gloss over the time period and environment so you can call her a derogatory term because she had an affair is really really really weird.
all in all, this is me defending my friend because its one thing to disagree on viewpoints, but degrading her character in such a way because of it comes off callous.
