Gather âround kids: I had a coworker mention to me this morning that itâs impossible to get grease stains out of fabric. As a former chemistry minor who worked two years under the table doing housekeeping and who generally tends to be a fucking disaster, I am here to tell everyone that it absolutely is not impossible, in case this is a widespread belief. Here are a few of my favorite cleaning stain removers that I always have at home.
Here are some options:
A Tide⢠pen.
Iâm a generic kinda lady. I hate promoting brands 99% of the time. BUT if you catch absolutely any kind of stain before it gets ground in, you can get most of it out with one of these babies. Iâve tested it on blood, chocolate, coffee, guacamole, pizza sauce, red wine on, on that one time i accidentally slopped some oil I was supposed to be using on antiques onto a fancy rug (also an antique but not the one I was gunning for). If youâre washing something delicate, pump it onto your finger a couple of times and gently rub it in. Iâm not sure what they put in these things but Iâm pretty sure itâs an arcane secret.
Dish soap
Granted, this is a little trickier for upholstery/carpet, but it can still be done using a rag, some water, and some patience. But for clothing, just pour some soap on the stain and rub it in under cold running water.
Absolutely any clear alcohol is your new best friend
You know the old âwhite wine to clean redâ trick? Well, this is its updated sister I like to call âyou, too, can use coconut rum to get red jello shot out of your nice white dressâ. Itâs a nice party trick. Straight vodka works even better. For every day situations involving any kind of alcohol-related spills (including markers)âand especially work situationsârubbing alcohol is ideal. To quote another adage, this one from every chemistry teacher you will ever meet, âlike dissolves like.â
Hydrogen Peroxide
It can get blood out of absolutely anything, including your mattress. It reacts with the iron in hemoglobin, which breaks down the molecule, causing it to lose its red color. So make sure youâre not using a cast iron skillet to wash your period underwear in.
Vinegar
This will dissolve lime buildup overnight. Fill a bag, tie it around your showerhead, and presto. You can also use it to scrub the area around your sink and to break up any buildup in pipes. (Limeaway⢠is for rich people.)Â
Baking soda
This is great if you have a pet or child who peed on the carpet. Just cover the area, wait until it dries, and vacuum it up. The longer you leave it, the better it will do at removing the smell. Itâs also good removing mild odors from a small space, like a fridge or a laundry hamper.Â
Charcoal
This is your heavy duty odor killer. A little goes a long way. In chemistry, activated charcoal is used as a purifier in reactions, and in medicine, it can be used to treat mild poisoning/overdoses. In your car that smells like someone died because you forgot you had potatoes in the trunk for six months? All you need are regular old charcoal briquettes. Stick a couple handfuls in a flat box and the smell will be gone overnight. Guaranteed. For larger areas, just use more charcoal.
Baking soda is also good for stuff stuck on pots pans and your stove top. Add a little bit of water and elbow grease and itâs like magic
@howtogrowthefuckup
Baby shampoo will get oil stains out of clothing even if itâs been washed and dried several times. Â Shampoo is formulated to remove oil from organic stuff.

Hey yâall, my sister-in-law recently found out she has stage 4 anal cancer and has started chemo and radiation treatment. She has five daughters aged 15-25 and four grandchildren. Her oldest daughter organized a GoFundMe to help pay for medical expenses. If you are able to help her financially that would be amazing- anything helps. Thanks so much in advance!
Hello my name is Shania. My mom was recently diagnosed with stage 4 anal cancer that has ma⌠Shania Patton needs your support for Lynnâs fi
Reblogging this because Lynn still very much needs help with finances for her treatment. She is on a very aggressive treatment and is not able to work because of it. Even if you canât help right now please reblog and keep her and my nieces in your prayers, for both the success of the treatment and the finances to be covered
Noticed this picked up some traction again and just wanted to say thank you to anyone who donated!!! You are a blessing đ¤đ¤
Iâve been seeing these types of ads around ... the old adage âonce bitten twice shyâ springs to mind đ¤Ąđ
There are many men and women who are alive today when the government was injuring and killing American citizens. 1972 wasnât that long ago. Also, that experiment was against the Nuremberg code, not that governments care. Look up the founder of planned parenthood, her aim was to kill as many black people as she could and her work continues today. Margret Sanger was her name.
A rant on making kids sit still in school:
So Iâve been seeing lots of posts lately talking about how awful it is to make kids sit still all day, and how especially awful it is to give them drugs if they canât.
And I agree. Itâs horrible.
But what a lot of these posts miss is WHY kids have to sit still in school all day, and therefore they miss the solution. It seems most people think the solution is âstop telling kids to sit still.â
Iâll tell you what happens if I donât tell my kids to sit still and be quiet
- Kids get hurt
- Things get broken
- Itâs too loud for anyone to focus/kids with anxiety get panic attacks
I know because Iâve seen it.
So whatâs the solution? Drug them?
No. The problem is class size. If I have 30 kids and 30 desks and 30 chairs in a classroom, thereâs no room for anyone to move without bumping into things. 30 voices is too many to have talking all at once. And even if 29 kids are working or reading quietly, it only takes one to disrupt their focus.
But itâs not even just class size. Itâs the entire structure of the school system. Itâs the idea that all of these kids need to be in the same room at the same time learning the same stuff and being tested the same way.
The modern education system is designed on a factory model. Itâs an exercise in mass-production. We mass-produce obedient citizens who will listen to the authority, be productive, and pay their taxes.
If I see 130 kids in a given day in 5 batches of 20-30 students each, I donât have the opportunity to really meet the needs of each individual. I have to treat them as a batch, a shipment of individual units that needs to be passed along the conveyor belt to the next work station - I mean classroom - when the bell rings.
I canât develop a rapport with each of their parents. I canât accurately assess each of their skills and needs. I canât create tailored lessons that help them grow and learn. I canât create a space that lets them move freely without breaking things or getting hurt.
You know who can do that? Parents. If you have 1, 2, 3, 5, even 12 kids, you can create a tailored, individualized education experience that meets their needs and helps them develop into a creative, confident, capable adult.
I do what I can in the position Iâm in. But I cannot be a mom to each and every one of these kids. And in order to make sure they donât get hurt or break something while theyâre in my care, I have to make them sit down. And in order to maybe get some semblance of learning done, I have to make them be quiet.
I can only hope that their parents, or some other adult in their lives, realizes just how bad this system is and that these children arenât being educated - theyâre being passed along a conveyor belt. And even the QA department isnât really doing their job.
Maybe if parents understand that the system isnât just broken, that it was designed this way, then maybe they can start pulling these kids out and taking charge of their education.
I would love to lose my job because there were no students left in the public schools. Because every parent realized itâs not a good idea to let the government control what your child learns. Because every parent realized their childâs education was their responsibility, not some bureaucratâs.
That would be dream come true.
@holbytlanna I love the term âfree range children,â thatâs perfect.
The factory metaphor didnât come from me though. Thereâs a great TED Talk from Sir Ken Robinson that explains what has happened to education. Not sure if I agree with 100% of his assumptions and conclusions, but he seems to get the core problem with the system and how it connects to ADHD and the over-medication of children.
Bat babies.

So I was watching TikTok and this video popped up and the TikToker was explaining that she, as a 22 year old SAHM, gets a lot of hate from the younger generation for not abandoning traditional values to instead pursue a career and be single and childless. And this stupid comment showed up underneath
And I was too chicken to actually reply to the person (hearts are not changed over social media arguments and insults) so Iâm venting about it here
Why do some people, especially gen z/millennial feminists, not understand that some women CHOOSE to be a SAHM at a young age? Not everyone finds fulfillment in a career. Some of us WANT to be taken care of by our husbands financially, while we take care of the home. Why do some people think that every woman has to have a career to be fulfilled or to have value?? I do SO much work in the home and find SO much fulfillment being at home with my kids. I do SO much during the day. I love what I do. Why does this person, and MANY others like them, think that the only way to find fulfillment/value in life is to have a job. I freaking hate working for other people- I love working for my family. Me being at home with my kids does not take away from the value of other women who choose to work outside of the home.
@ boys:
if you say no, and they still kiss you, thatâs not okay
if you say no, and they still get handsy with you, thatâs not okay
if you say no, and they still make you have sex with them, thatâs not okay
if you say no, and they do something to you physically or sexually that makes you uncomfortable, thatâs not okay
if you say no, and they verbally make you feel bad about it, thatâs not okay
if you say no, and they guilt you into doing something sexual with them, thatâs not okay
if you say no, and they threaten you, whether verbally or physically, thatâs not okay
it is so important for boys to know that they can be victims to sexual assault and abuse. so often are boys told that they are âluckyâ if someone wants to be sexual with them and male victims of sexual assault dismissed because boys are supposed to, âlike it.â this has to change. boys: you donât deserve the abuse or assault you endure, nor are you weak because you felt like what was happening was wrong. it was wrong, and you are NEVER at fault for someone else taking advantage of you.
This post is incredibly tone-deaf.
I made this post because I received an ask from a young boy who was forcibly kissed at a party. He was very embarrassed and upset and he didnât know what to make of what happened. It broke my heart. Yes- this stuff most often happens to girls. I am well aware of that, and I have made many posts for female victims. I made this post specifically for the boy who sent me that ask, and other boys who have experienced something similar. By making this post, Iâm not derailing any discussions. Iâm not making conversations about female victims about male ones. I made my own post so any boy who was scared or confused about something terrible that had happened to them could see this and maybe have them understand that somebody cares. Some young boys need to hear that. These posts are not always made to spite those who want to have a conversation about female victims.
These posts are not always made to spite those who want to have a conversation about female victims.
These posts are never about that, but feminists canât handle the fact that men and boys might not be one dimensionally evil and girls and women might not be one dimensionally pure and good.
Itâs every bit as important for boys and men to have boundaries and feel comfortable and confident in expressing them as it is for girls and women. That shouldnât have to be explained.
