honestly I think everyone in every fandom should be required to read (or better yet: write!) atleast one fic that contains dark/taboo/fucked up shit. Every single person. Every single fandom. Doesn't matter if you have squicks or triggers. Everyone needs to get more comfortable with getting out of their comfort zone atleast once. And who knows? Maybe it'll help yall kill the puritans in your head and lead to yall developing an open mind.
I donât agree with forcing or pressuring anyone into doing or exposing themselves to something theyâre not comfortable with so I strongly disagree with this, sorry. I get where youâre coming from, but as Iâve mentioned before, I believe fandom is first and foremost about whatever youâre most comfortable with. and I say this as someone who loves reading and writing dark fics, fandom should be our comfort place and our getaway. so if someone isnât comfortable with something, then Iâd never ever pressure or coerce them into the things theyâre uncomfortable with (unless they want to get out of their comfort zone on their own free will, but thatâs their decision, not mine, not yours, not anybody elseâs). forcing, pressuring, coercing, manipulating or guilt tripping someone is not what fandom is about. at. all.
Yeah that would honestly make fandom so much more hostile.
âDoesnt matter if you have triggersâ
Forcing someone to read a story that triggers them for the âbetterment of fandomâ is NOT the same as exposure therapy. Reactions to triggers can be quite serious, and this honestly sounds like torture.
exactly this! respect peopleâs boundaries, if theyâre not comfortable with something, if theyâre triggered by something, listen to them and respect that.
