INTRODUCTION:

Hi! I’m Newt, pronouns are he/him, I’m trans, gay, I’m a mental mess and slightly less anemic than before. Minor, don’t be freaky. I’m cringe, big deal. I have a potty mouth at times. No discriminatory bullshit.

Here are things I will probably word-vomit about at some point, just so we're clear from the start.

Musical Theater (My favorite musicals are: Falsettos, Hairspray, The Book of Mormon, Moulin Rouge, Into the Woods, West Side Story, Chicago, Singin’ In the Rain, Anastasia, Gypsy, etc.)

Andrew Rannells: The love of my life.

Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino, gangster movies, anything in that realm

Movies/TV in general (My favorite movies at the moment: Heat, Dog Day Afternoon. Midnight Run, Frankie and Johnny, Pulp Fiction, Goodfellas, and many many more.)

Music (mainly 60’s/70’s/80’s stuff most likely)

Cowboys. Yup. Still very much into Brokeback Mountain and RDR

I also hope to share more art! Haven’t had the chance to do that much but I hope to drop stuff in occasionally.

Hey so it’s been a second. Normally my art is a little better than this, but for some reason the Heat (1995) fandom actually exists on Tumblr so I wanted to contribute a little something…

Me when I realize I can actually write about whatever I want. So screw it, movie reviews.

I watched Hereditary last night, and I thought it was extremely promising. I had heard good things about it, so I went into it with high expectations. And for the most part, it was great. It was suspenseful, creepy, and I wasn't sure how it would turn out.

When the supernatural/séance element started to take place, it began to be more predictable and less scary.

For me personally, I find it scarier when horror movies are more psychological lines, leaving more interpretation as to what's real, what's fake, and what's possible in the real world. To a skeptic, when the paranormal element takes into play, it's less believable and less applicable to everyday life, leaving less of a paranoid residue once the movie is finished. The King Paimon ending with hell seemed like a poor ending to what was leading up to it, almost like an easy way out.

That being said, there were several elements I did like. I thought the acting was superb. There were several parts of the movie that I found to be memorable and I could see myself referencing or remembering certain scenes later in life. Charlie's initial death was very intense and scary, and even more disturbing when Annie started making a miniature model of the accident, which I loved. Peter's possession during school was scary and gruesome. Charlie was a creepy, disturbing character with an unforgettable face, almost presenting an uncanny valley feeling.
