What is 2002?

2002 is an in-universe show created by @telephonepolebit for the fanfiction Insomnia, 2002 and it has now spiraled into its own thing! 2002 is a very low budget sci-fi erotica show that takes place on a dystopian version of Earth in the year 2002. It follows the main character “Space Cop” and his alien secretary “Lethe Iota” and their journey to stop crime and also escape to the Moon. In-universe, the show began airing in 1971 and was created by Helen Walker, who also stars as Lethe. The show also stars D-tier actors Al Pacino as Space Cop, Chris Sarandon as Amoreena, and Robert Deniro as Space Villain. The show is incredibly niche but has a small and dedicated fanbase of freaks, mostly in Baltimore, as that’s where the show is filmed. Despite the show’s unpopularity, there is a diner in Baltimore themed around it called “The Starship Grace.” The Starship Grace was originally your run-of-the-mill diner but it was rethemed around 2002 after actor Bill Spank was fired from the show and took control of the diner. It’s shaky on if The Starship Grace actually has the legal right to be themed around 2002. The show 2002 is enjoyed by several Shermline characters like Leon, Sonny and Cora, and Leon and Cora work at the 2002 themed diner. Here's the menu for said diner!

Al Pacino:

"If you don’t like RPF keep scrolling! Yes, we put Al Pacino in the Shermline. We also made him a trans man and gave him a toxic relationship with Chris Sarandon, who we made a trans woman. We also made him a D-tier actor whose only real role is as “Space Cop”, the main character of 2002, our fictional sci-fi erotica show. Al Pacino essentially has no acting career in this universe. Oh and we also got him pregnant because if you know IRL Al Pacino lore, he’s got this mysterious scar and we joke that it’s a C-section scar. So here we are. Yes, it’s Chris Sarandon’s baby."

Chris Sarandon:

"If you don’t like RPF keep scrolling! OBVIOUSLY we put Chris Sarandon in the Shermline and made her a trans woman. We also gave her a toxic relationship with Al Pacino, who’s now a trans man. We also kinda killed off Chris’s acting career and now she’s known for playing the side character “Amoreena” in 2002, our fake sci-fi erotica show. We give her a good theater career though and let her marry her IRL wife, Joanna Gleason, who we also made trans. Oh, and also we did get Al Pacino pregnant with Chris’s baby. Someone had to do it!"

Robert De Niro:

"If you don’t like RPF keep scrolling! We added Robby D to the Shermline and kinda kept him as is. His career now started with his role as “Space Villain” in our fake sci-fi erotica show, 2002, but after being casted in The Godfather II his career took off. We also paired him with the in-universe creator of 2002, Helen Walker! He’s a chill guy."

Helen Walker:

"Helen Walker is basically an OC and is the in-universe creator of 2002, our fictional sci-fi erotica show. Her faceclaim is Diahnne Abbot. Helen also stars in 2002 as Space Cop’s secretary, Lethe Iota. Helen’s whole thing is that she’s a very talented writer, but has lost control of her own show. Basically the only episodes of 2002 that are good were the ones written by her. She’s also in a relationship with co-star Robert Deniro! Helen is weird and wacky, and also ends up leaving the show after a couple seasons."

Lory Dunwell:

"Lory Dunwell is basically an OC created to be a weird partner to Lowell Bergman from The Insider (1999). Her faceclaim is Susan Sarandon. We wanted Lowell to have some kind of partner but we couldn't decide on how to do it, so we decided to make him and Lory both aroace and weird about in each other in a way that used to be bad but now is good! Lory is also a butch lesbian, and the replacement for Helen/Lethe when Helen left the show. Lory plays "Travela Dancer", Space Cop's new rival turned lover. Lory is a very quirky and autistic individual."
