“who is linkin park?” - one shot KO by my younger coworker
I am going to unfold all of your clean laundry and leave it in a pile on your bed

Huge things happening this week 🎉💥💥💥💥💥💥
This is like lingerie for electronics
"But I have to play gacha games, I'm easily bored and need a constant stream of new and updated content or I lose interest" just get into open source roguelikes like a normal person.
Like, either way the game hates you on an intrinsic structural level, but at least the second one is honest about it.

I'm just saying, if you're going to worldbuild magic being a "raw, primal force, akin to and interweaving with nature itself" you gotta explain to me why animals don't use it
I know the normal answer is "they just aren't smart enough for it" but idk I've seen enough media where a character uses a spell in a moment of brain-off panic ilI feel like animals could probably stumble into a spell or two like, accidentally
Also how funny would it be to see a completely normal regular bear cast magic missile outta nowhere
Also there is no way ravens wouldn't figure out spells, tbh
They're smart fuckin birds, I believe in them
Either through observing or just figuring shit out ravens could 100% learn how to cast spells I'm sure of it
Dogs can also cast Magic Missile but every time they do the projectile is shaped like a bone or a stick and they chase after it
group of wizards who ask this in-universe, and after extensive study learn to their surprise that animals are casting spells all the time, just that their magic is so fundamental as to be unrecognizable to humans. turns out the only reason acorns grow on trees is because squirrels keep wishing for them.
I'd love to see how arcanists cultivate magic from the living creatures around them.
Learning magic by observing the animals around you, then sculpting what they do into whatever's taught at your fancy mage college. Learning darkness from squid (that's not ink), hunters mark from wolves (they're great hunters yes, but also), 90% of illusion magic from large birds (used in mating rituals).
Does a deer need to cast fireball? No. But flame produced in a panic that aids its retreat, either through a burst of speed or blast of deterrence, could be natural and the start of some research
And the squirrels are casting 9th level spells but everyone just thinks they're annoying and ignores them.
the thing about being bullied for being weird as a kid is that even if you've always embraced being weird your brain is still always looking for the line where it's too much. you can be as proudly and intentionally weird as you want and you can love being weird but your mind is still convinced there's a point where you get too weird and people start treating you like a weird looking bug again. also it feels like you reach that point 500 times a day even if everyone you've spoken to today found you pleasant and likable and even if you're completely alone in your house with nobody looking at you at all.

ready for what the next week brings...
Hamlet adaptation where Hamlet is a vlogger and all his soliloquies are breakdowns he uploads to YouTube
… I am unironically here for this
this is the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in my life
This is - legitimately - my favourite delivery of Shakespeare I have EVER seen (and I have seen some good-ass productions yo, in the Globe Theatre itself even). Like seriously, even though the words are unchanged, he’s stripped away ALL of the archaic pretense and assumed grandeur of ~presenting the bard~ that makes even the most wildly talented of actors and innovative of productions inherently inaccessible to a modern audience. Like, they’re still great, they can still communicate the message and (some) of the nuance, but they’re still always a step removed from being identifiable to any viewer’s lived experience. They’re still always reciting 15th century poetry. But this guy? This guy is like, screw iambic pentameter, to hell with being precious about the material, HOW WOULD AN ACTUAL PERSON SAY THIS SHIT?
Like this. And it’s beautiful. It’s beautiful to hear a soliloquy I loved so much already, and have it come to life in a way it never, ever, did before. I feel like I grasp his motivations, his twists and turns, no longer on an academic level but on a visceral, instinctive one. Because he’s presenting his mental and emotional journey in a way that speaks honestly, like a real person.
So yeah, this shit post? I love it. Deeply and sincerely.
A post about this went round recently, and I’m delighted to announce she’s since come out as trans and goes by Jasmine 🏳️⚧️
Actor and Writer
There’s a whole series of the Hamlet videos on her YouTube, as well as a bunch of other films she’s made
this is probably a great argument if you see a games company as a machine that produces content and not a place of work that people rely on to have income so they can sustain themselves long-term
I mean, it's also how things like TV shows and movies work. It's not an inherently reasonable way to run a creative industry.
The problem, for people who think like that, is that the game dev industry isn't built like that, at all. The payouts aren't good enough for people to survive the time between projects, there's not enough new projects starting for people to jump to, and most importantly, the devs aren't expecting it- actors and film crews know that they need a new job once the current project is over, so they're looking and saving.
The other problem, the reason game dev hasn't already been running like this, is that it's a fuckin bad idea for the specific nature of the project. Any TV show or movie is using equipment that works the same, accomplishing basically the same goals. There's differences between TV and film, between genres, and between individual show cultures, but in game dev, every company has its own engines, every game has its own mechanics, franchises build on previous entries, and each platform is unique to develop for. Game dev absolutely needs the same team working on successive releases (whether sequels or just new games by the same company) with minimal turnover, or huge sections of the development time get lost to relearning the same lessons over and over.

UNCLENCH. I MEANT UNCLENCH
Sorry, my what? My pronouns? Oh, yeah I'm between genders at the moment. No, it's cool, I quit my last gender a little while ago because it really wasn't working out. I don't know if I even have a dream gender anymore.
Oh yeah, it did come with benefits, but they weren't really worth it. The culture was really toxic. To be honest I think I'd prefer a part-time gender so I can just be self-described in my spare time.
I mean, in a perfect world we wouldn't need gender, you know? We could just voluntarily be perceived as much as we're able, as much as makes us feel fulfilled. Having a full-time gender shouldn't be a prerequisite for food, shelter, and healthcare.
