Some dialogue choices in Persona 4 give you some points towards your social stats. One of the earliest of these is insisting that the TV World is too dangerous for Chie (a girl who has taught herself kung-fu), which makes you slightly more Understanding.
The sexism inherent in "it just wouldn't make sense for a girl moving from the city to the countryside to drive the plot" is baked into every facet of Persona 4's writing.
This shadow world is just too dangerous for a girl who can perform a standing backflip, it has to be up to us: Two guys with a golf club and a pair of monkey wrenches.

you know I hear a lot about trans men being mistaken for trans women, but not a lot about trans women being mistaken for trans men
am I just not hearing about it, or is it maybe something to do with the fact that transfemininity is more scrutinized and presumed? like, I wonder if people are more inclined to try to spot it because we are so fearmongered about
I have been on multiple dates where they assumed I was transmasc, and was ghosted when they realized I was transfem. I know it happens when I am inexplicably treated with dignity and respect on accident
I've talked to a lot of lesbians, and most assume (because I am butch) that I'm transmasc. Also because I have a deeper voice, a lot of people assume that I'm on testosterone. When they find out I am not, that's where pleasant conversation ends. Queer people are fine with a masculine woman, except when she's transfem.
Happened to me a few times earlier in my transition when I presented more non-binary. Stubble also grew out disgustingly swiftly and contributed to these kinds of misunderstandings. And yeah the amount of people who ghosted me after finding out I was a transfem was all but one of the people with the misconception (and that one still stopped seeing me as a viable romantic partner after realizing)
at some point after I started E, I started getting he/himmed in the same conspicuously-supportive way that I had been getting she/hered. took me a while to figure out that that people were thinking I was transmasc. I didn't understand why they were conspicuously supportive but, when I corrected them to she/her, they'd give me this politely strained smile.
happened to me at a bike mechanic when I was getting my wife's bike fixed. They seemed to intuit me as transmasc until when I had to give my name for their billing system - since we got a free repair and tuneup if something happened in the next few months, they needed to record a name. <Fem name> I offered. "Nah, you can use your real one." "Yes, <fem name.>" (bike mechanic gets moment of realization and starts treating me like I don't know what fucking pedals are, after I've spent the past hour talking shop about bike and electronics repair)
Was closeted in a queer dorm about three/four years on E. 5'10, Tits, Short hair, Dahmer glasses, the works. Everyone assumed I was a particularly lucky pre-T transmasc. I was moderately popular. When I finally came out everyone gave me the cold shoulder and started spreading rumors about me being a massive creep.
i imagine being white help a lot with this stuff. i have never had someone gender me properly even when they recognize my white GF standing right next to me as trans and at least attempt to gender her correctly
the amount of times i watched as the light leave a transmasc's eyes as they realized they just had a nice conversation with a Black trans woman instead of a Black trans man is absurd and always soul crushing. so much talk about standing with your sisters, but you get upset when you have to talk to a woman, and especially when that woman isn't cis.
in nonqueer spaces everyone thinks i'm a cis man, in queer spaces everyone thinks i'm a trans man. it's fucking agonizing to live in a society that constantly thinks you're a man, and even when given access to womanhood (incredibly rare, usually in online spaces), there's always an assumption i'm butch, i'm dominant in sex, and would perfectly fit the role of a man in the household.
at times the pull to detransition and/or end my life is very tempting, because it feels like i'd have to dress like a barbie doll to maybe, possibly hear "miss" something... occasionally. i either gotta erase all my Blackness or erase all my womanhood and i think when a trans man praises me on how i'm so "genderfuck-y" i'm reminded why i hate men and want to die.
"Why do they care about Fauci now?"
Because of the midterms
"Covid was years ago I don't understand why theyre rehashing it!"
The midterms are happening in a few months
"How can they hold him in contempt? He didn't say anything!"
They're performing political theater to remind people of how upset they were during the pandemic about the decisions being made because the midterms are happening in November and the Covid backlash is how they won 2024.
Please please please learn to recognize political theater when it's happening. It'll spare you so much grief.
Phenomenal spare wheel cover I walked past the other day
a lot of my disillusionment with the trans "community" comes down to the fact that too many of you take "gender is different from sex" and go "ah ok, so instead of saying women are fragile and men are strong, I should say afabs are fragile and amabs are strong. to be Inclusive"
then you just treat gender like a surface level aesthetic draped over what someone "actually" is. really is indistinguishable from terf rhetoric
you all need to unpack your bioessentialism, but we also need a better theory of gender than "it's just dressup." I will pick my words carefully here, but the word "gender" itself refers to so many different phenomena that have been lumped together, and we need to un-lump them
in a feminist context, "gender" has historically referred to externally imposed categorization and the internalization and performance of said categories. in a paper I wrote on this subject, I called this sense of the word "extrinsic gender"
"intrinsic gender," on the other hand, is what I used to refer to the sense of the word "gender" that a lot of trans people are talking about when they discuss social gender dysphoria and euphoria. it's the internal sense of category that's resistant to external impositions
but then we also use the word "gender" to refer to subconscious sex, which is the term Julia Serano coins in Whipping Girl to name the phenomenon we're talking about when we talk about bodily dysphoria. it is the "gender" being "affirmed" by gender affirming healthcare like HRT and bottom surgery
so, "gender" is: a social classing system, a performance, and at least two internal phenomena as well. and I really don't know if it's doing us a service to conflate all of these things!
a lot of people lately seem to be going heavy on the "performance" use of the word, ignoring (intentionally or otherwise) social classing, intrinsic gender, and subconscious sex. this seems to have led to a lot of "progressive" people treating trans women like men "amabs" who wear womanhood as a costume, and nobody understands why that's wrong because they also think gender is just a performance
see also "why can't you just be a femboy/feminine man/etc"
if you had the money/time/resources to bring your OCâs story to life, what medium would you choose?
a book/book series
a comic book/graphic novel
a webcomic
a tv show/cartoon
a movie
a play/musical
an album
a video game
I donât have any original characters

the situation with harry potter is kind of unprecedented in some ways imo because it is maybe the largest media franchise in history to be created & owned by a single person who still has direct creative control over it. who is also a billionaire with significant cultural/political influence. like the usual "no ethical consumption under capitalism" type excuses shatter on impact when the bigoted author in question is logging onto twitter every day saying explicitly that when you buy the tim hortons ravenclaw donut she is using your donut money to fund the genocide of trans people. like with big franchises usually there's at least a little more diffusion of responsibility than this
One must imagine Sisyphus medicated

The rest of the thread is here.
tl;dr: Donât monetize AO3, kids. You wonât like what happens next.
read this thread. this is by far the most concise explanation of a lot of different issues that iâve seen in fandom spaces in a while. cosigning both the linked thread and the thread about aus/uk/can law thatâs linked in-thread.
AHDHXHEBSG TWITTER WRITERS DID WHAT NOW???? AND PEOPLE PAID THEM????
If someone has never taken a class that includes copyright law, they may not know this stuff, so I donât necessarily blame random people for not knowing what copyright is, but like⌠maybe just maybe itâs something that should be taught????
Just another reminder, because this always drives me crazy, but even if monetizing your fic was 100% unambiguously legal and protected, AO3 would still not let you do it because AO3 was founded and is supported by people like me who want a fandom community that is completely divested from making money off of fic.
Yes, this. Lots of fanworks on AO3 are unambiguously legal. Fics based on Shakespeare plays and fairy tales and Greek mythology and The Great Gatsby and your original character from your D&D game are not violations of copyright, because no copyright applies to those things.
AO3 still doesnât let you monetize those things on the site, because we donât want the site to be commercial! Because thatâs not what itâs for!
Itâs not there for you (generic you) to make money off the efforts of the people who build and maintain the site for free! We arenât getting paid for the work we do to give you a nice site to use, just like you arenât getting paid for the work you do to create whatever art you share there. Because fandom is supposed to be a community where we share with each other, and therefore we all benefit.
The deal is, we give you a free, stable, safe platform to host your works. In exchange, you get a site that isnât covered in ads and tip jars and links to gofundme and âread the next chapter at my patreonâ. You get one goddamn place on the internet that isnât trying to make money off you. And we will defend that space and keep it non-commercial.
If you want to make money off your fics, you can instead post them somewhere like royal Road. âOh, but Royal Roadâs culture is so much more negative and stressful and lacks the supportive norms of AO3!â Yeah, because people are trying to make money there. Half the userbase is treating it as a storefront and hustling is the natural social consequence of that. AO3âs culture can only exist because itâs not commercial.
this is how new yorkers @ mamdani
ITâS LITERALLY HAPPENING LMAOOOOO
op disabled reblogs but I think the point still stands
reminder that the books themselves also suck ass actually. there's an entire plotline endorsing slavery. the one character who advocates to end slavery is bullied and made fun of. the one slave who doesnt like being enslaved is bullied and treated as an outcast. the bankers are the picture of racist stereotypes of jewish people. the one asian character is named fckn Cho Chang. the worldbuilding SUCKS. fuck harry potter and fuck rowling. stop giving her your money.

Yasuke (Assassin's Creed Shadows)
See, with all the antiblack racism we've been put through over this man's sheer existence, is proof enough that he's excellent Black character design. Everyone rise and give Yasuke a standing ovation right NEOW-

Donald Trump desperately trying to initiate the Red Scare 2 but no one giving a fuck is hilarious to me. The GOP has already villainized and fearmongered about immigrants, transgender people, DEI hires, ANTIFA, etc. and introducing a new supervillain hiding amongst us just isnât working. I wish there was a communism WAS the greatest threat to America.
During yesterdayâs speech he said something to the tune of âThe communists want to seize your house and give it to your neighbor.â which shows how out of touch he is, how advanced his dementia is and how the Red Scare tactics of the 1950s are not applicable to the 2020s because no one owns their house anymore and most of us would prefer our house being owned by our neighbor instead of our landlord.
The Red Scare tactics of the 1950s are sooooooooo outdated in todayâs world. Saying shit like âUnder communism, the government will assign you a job and you will not get to pick!â would make 85% of my generation be like âThat sounds awesome, Iâm so sick of AI job interviews, just got rejected for the job I applied for shoveling elephant shit at the zoo.â
