North Face Endurance Challenge 5k - Washington, DC Recap -Â
It was HOT
And really sunny
I ran in my North Face gear and it worked out well, although I wish the shirt was about 3 to 4 inches longer and that I had running tights rather than the shorts. BUT - it was lightweight and helped to keep me cool.
The course was nice, pretty flat and about a third of it was in the woods on a narrow trail
There was NO WATER STATION, which I found to be pretty dangerous given the temperature. So I carried my own water bottle and I am glad that I did.
Race results for me never were tracked and I definitely crossed the start and finish line, which is aggravating
My friend (and coworker) who runs Endurance Racing Magazine kicked the race's ass - 26:15 and was top 3 in her age group
I need to work on my fitness because my time was way off my PR
I am a complete ham and all of the race photos of me I am giving a thumbs up
Finish time - 39:21
Big thanks to Endurance Racing Magazine and The North Face for the sweet running gear that I am going to wear in the Endurance Challenge 5k on Sunday. This gear is light as a feather and really comfy.Â
Here is a rundown on the gear:
Better Than Naked Jacket
GTD Running Shorts
GTD Short-Sleeve Running Shirt
I wonder how they knew to send neon stuff... :-)
I am going to run my race on Sunday in the gear and will let you know all about it! So here is to a, hopefully, not super-hot Sunday morning.
Good luck to all the runners this weekend!
A Salad a Day....
Going to start living by this mantra and replace one meal a day with a salad. A healthy salad. Not one that has more calories and fat than a bacon cheeseburger, because frankly, I would rather have the cheeseburger (wouldn't we all?).Â
Running at the Beach
Is there anything better than running along the boardwalk, people watching, and not noticing the miles just pass by? This weekend I got to do just that up at Bethany Beach, DE.
It was perfect running weather, by my standards (55-60 degrees), but not great beach weather..... brrrrrr!
But it was a great way to kick of me getting back into my running game after my half-marathon earlier this year. Now I have my eye on the prize - the Army 10-miler on October 21st. Goal is consistent 10 min miles and to PR and beat my GW Parkway Classic time (1:45).

I must be a glutton for punishment because I just signed up to do another Warrior Dash in September. This time my hubby will be joining me so no tutu, but hopefully more epic pictures like the one above and less bruises than last time.
My first Half Marathon is done! and I finished. It was a great race, I trained hard but was unprepared for the drastic change in temperature between northern VA and Orlando. That made me add quite a bit of time onto my finish time, but you know what? I don't care.
I finished. I crossed that line. I earned my medal. That is what really matters to me. I can worry about time during my second half-marathon, whenever that may be.
So here is the rundown on Disney races - of which I will forever be a fan:
EARLY WAKEUP CALL - had to be on the bus at 3:30am!
Amazing amount of clean port-a-potty's
There were so many GREAT costumes, I felt right at home
Started the race in the dark - 5:45am with fireworks and a blessing from the fairy godmother (epic)
Ran past so many floats with characters it was hard to keep track
The course was pretty flat which was nice... I could not imagine the humidity with hills.
Running through the Magic Kingdom was the highlight for sure, especially the castle
Finishing felt great, my feet hurt, and I was REALLY dehydrated
I would love to do another Disney race sometime, perhaps the Tower of Terror 10-miler (a race at night).
Dinner is delicious! Chicken, avacado, garlic, red onion, lime juice mixture with no sodium seasoned French green beans.
My Regiment (if you will)
So I have been getting a lot of questions about what exactly I am doing to 1. lose weight and 2. do it so quickly. I will start off by saying that I am on a regimented program called WeightNot. Â I found out about WeightNot through a PodCast that I listen to where two of their cast members have lost over 100lbs!!! They inspired me and eventually I worked up the courage and the funding to do this diet. Preface - it is not cheap, but it is effective. I viewed it as an investment in my future.
The first phase is called HealthiStart and it is a complete cleanse that preps your body for weight loss - like hitting the restart button:
Day 1 and 2 are a modified fast (if you can get through this part you can get through anything!). In the morning and evening you have a detox shake (which is foul, but if you chug it you can get through it) and 3 supplements and you can have up to 120 calories of 100% juice throughout the day to keep your blood sugar up. Also - you need to drink at least 2 liters of water per day every day of the diet. (no soda, coffee, or energy drinks)Â
Day 3-7 is still part of your cleanse but this time WITH FOOD!!!  The biggest thing they stress is trying to eat organic and eliminate the chemicals that you are putting into your body because it is hard for your liver to process them and they end up turning into fat in the long run. In the morning you have a lean protein or eggs and a fruit (they identify specific portions for all types of protein, fruits and vegetables in the guide that you get and you measure everything by weight), for lunch you have a lean protein and vegetables, and for dinner you have a lean protein, fruit and vegetables.
This portion of the diet you can anticipate to lose 5+ pounds, but I have found that you lose a lot more if you really stick to it.
After your first week you go into the meat of the diet, which follows the same structure as days 3-7 of the first week, but the portions of food are different and the supplements change.
Also they want you to walk 10,000 steps per day (roughly 5 miles), but I compensate this with gym time. I do have to take things slower because of the low caloric intake, but you have so much more energy once you start losing weight.Â
There are three more phases that are incorporated after the intense weight loss phase that are intended to help train you to maintain your new weight.
So that is the long winded answer. Sorry, I just get really excited about it when I talk about it because IT WORKS!
That being said, this is the kind of diet that is for someone who has a decent amount of weight to lose 30+ pounds. Check out some of their amazing success stories.Â
Ok, so that felt like a commercial.... I will try and not do that too much, but when something works you just want to share it!
Lunch Today I am testing out a cup of turkey chili and a chicken taco from @caltort. I will see how thus does on the scale tomorrow. 3 mile run tonight

Diet Recap from Monday - Friday (post recap)
Day 5 - Dieting
Daily Loss: 1.2lbs
Total Loss: 7.2lbs
Status: Feeling GREAT
I am feeling fantastic. About the diet, about myself and about my healthy journey. People at work are already starting to come up to me and say I look "deflated" in a good way, like when you pop a balloon. Â I am excited for my run tonight and for the weekend!
-------------------------------------
Day 4 - Dieting
Daily Loss: .4lbs
Total Loss: 6lbs
Status: Feeling good
Yesterday was good and THANK GOD FOR FOOD. I stuck to the diet all day, got in an ok workout and consumed all of my allocated water. Â I think that today may pose a challenge because I have a work luncheon and I have my kettlebell training session tonight. Perhaps I will try to have 2/3 of my dinner before going to the gym tonight so that I have enough energy to keep up.
-------------------------------------
Day 3 - Dieting
Daily Loss: 2lbs
Overall Loss: 5.6lbs
Status: Feeling Good!
Holy hell I feel SO MUCH BETTER today. Yesterday from about 1pm on was a struggle. The last hours of the 2-day fast brought on an enormous headache, a rumbly tummy, and some serious thoughts about cheeseburgers… but I was good and I got through it and it made that first bite of eggs this morning so much sweeter.
-------------------------------------
Day 2 - Dieting
Daily Loss: 3.6lbs
Overall Loss: 3.6lbs
-------------------------------------
Day 1 - Dieting
So it starts again. I am back on the wagon and am going to do everything in my power to not fall off again. Â I had a lot of success and lost 40lbs over the past year, but in the most recent months I have given in to the likes of pumpkin beer, lattes, and food that is not good for me. Â So today I say NO MORE!!! I have a goal I want to meet and I have a ways to go to get there. So you may hear me venting/complaining on here, but believe me when I say that it is for my own good and I will be better this time - especially once the intense part of the diet is over.
Today is the first of a two-day fast that kicks off my diet and I am doing it at work, which is much harder than last time when I did it over a weekend. Â So wish me luck and thanks for your support.
Breakfast: - 1 organic large egg - 30g reduced fat Cajun chicken sausage - 100g mango (saving for around 930am) The key is seasoning to make things delicious, not butter and oil.
Tonight's Workout
2 mile jog at an 11.5 min/mile pace and .5 mile walk. Feel pretty good!
