As someone who grew up next to the ocean and lived near it in Madagascar and New Zealand too, it’s pretty rough living 3 hours away from it now. But at least it’s given me a reason to appreciate Delaware.
And because we don’t go to the ocean that often, Charles doesn’t understand its magic or like it very much! (He was clearly switched at birth). We had to compromise with a 30 foot leash- I could walk in the water and he could walk on the dry sand or wherever he wanted. We only tripped a few runners.

So, I'm on a Steven Universe vacation!
In fact, I'm pretty familiar with the area that the show is set in- my family and I have been basically living in that area during the summer ever since it became open to tourism. We know a lot of the locals there (who are incredible people, especially along the northern end), and we can easily give you a tour guide.
So, here we go.
Steven Universe is based on the beaches Rebecca Sugar visited while she was growing up in the city of Silver Spring, MD. The one that Beach City is literally based off of is called Ocean City, MD (confirmed in a tweet by the Crewniverse), but some of the show's locations and people, such as Mayor Dewey, Funland, the Frymans' business, and the fish pizza business, are in the more northern beaches of Dewey and Rehoboth Beach, DE. (Also, Rehoboth Beach is very gay-friendly, even if nobody in my family is).
Sadly, my phone is being an idiot, so I can't post pictures for comparison myself. But somebody else, luckily, did:

So many of the best memories of my life have been made here. Which influences their importance on my story, which I won't get to until my rehab is through...I don't want to approach the source material without being in the best condition I possibly can.
