I've been experimenting with slow shutter speeds, deliberately dipping well below the threshold where you can expect to steady the camera hand held. I was inspired by the amazing work of Michael Ackerman, initially using a cheap variable ND filter to let me shoot at 1/4 sec in daylight, then finding the dull winter days did the job for me. I'd assumed the results would be random and chaotic, but the more I do, the more I'm learning how to "shoot into" various situations to get particular effects. You never know exactly what you'll get - that's half the fun - but it's far from the complete randomness I anticipated when I started.
