Reason #1: Children and Families: Support our Children and Families program. As young as 3, children know their gender their identify. Gender non-conforming children and their families need your support.

  Reason #2: Youth programs: Youth and Young adults need counseling and peer support when they don’t fit into gender norms. Your donation will enable teens to access resources and supportive peers.

  Reason #3. Research: Studies have shown that 41% of people who are trans* or GNC have attempted suicide sometime in their lives. Why is this rate so high? How do we support trans* and GNC individuals? These are the questions we work to answer.

  Reason #4. Homelessness: Homeless and transience is incredibly high in trans* or GNC individuals due to prejudice and ignorance. Our center provides food, restrooms, and information access to people who don’t have anywhere to go for these services.

  Reason #5. Outreach/education: Our outreach team goes into the community to educate schools, businesses, and other organizations about gender identity and how they can affirm all expressions. We are not only changing our client’s lives, but changing the world they live in!

  Reason #6. Volunteer Run & Led: The GIC is 100% volunteer run and led. Our clinical team, front desk workers and volunteers, group leaders, Board of Directors and Trustees all work for free so that we can offer affordable services to the community. We do what we do because we LOVE it!

  Reason #7. Safe Space: Trans and GNC individuals need safe spaces for testing and refining their public presentations of their identity. Cisgender individuals take for granted the years spent learning feminine and masculine mannerisms. The GIC enables our guests to try out new styles and get helpful advice during their journey without fear of reprisal.

  Reason #8. Services group and clinical: We offer free support groups almost every day of the week and sliding scale counseling services. Due to high demand, we have a long wait list for our services, but your support can help us reach those in crisis more quickly!

The Gender Identity Center with the support of the Jefferson Unitarian Church (JUC) and Human Rights Campaign (HRC) will be hosting our anual memorial service at 14350 W. 32nd Avenue, Golden, CO 80401

Let’s come together as a community in observance of Transgender Day of Remembrance. 

Throughout the world, people gather every year to pay respect to those needlessly killed by hate crimes against the transgender community, and to call attention to the threat of violence that they face.

"I know I'm hardly the first to say this, but I have known, since my earliest memories, that I was supposed to have been born a girl. There has never been a shred of doubt about that in my entire life. I have ALWAYS wanted to "transform" into what I have always known I was (internally), and to this moment I despair that I don't have the body I knew I was meant to have. I most likely never will be able to change that due to the expense. Among the beauties of the GIC; although they welcome EVERYONE, their main focus is on those of us needing help with our gender identity issues, which, alone, covers the entire range that generally falls under the transgender "umbrella". But again, all are welcome there. Although most of the LGBT centers around the country welcome transgender people, their main focus is on those of us who are gay or bisexual. (Yes, many transgender people are gay or bisexual as well. While the two often intersect, they are not one and the same. As a biological male I, for example, have always been exclusively attracted to women. I don't see that changing, even if I am ever lucky enough to physically transform to a female (by that I mean having the surgery that I so desperately want). In any case, with no offense intended to the LGBT organizations who have helped to blaze the trail ahead of us and help us all, the "T" is still the last letter in their acronym. They have plowed a way for so long and against such odds, and I thank and praise them for the work they have done that has been such a huge help to us.) But, while all are indeed welcome, the main difference with the GIC is that their primary focus is on gender issues of all kinds, and I am unaware of any equivalent non-profit anywhere in the country. THAT is what brought me there in the first place. In just the first 15 months since I became a client there, I have seen a HUGE increase in the number of those seeking help, and without additional funding I am afraid that the GIC has a limited time to help us. The services they offer are phenomenal, but the need is exponentially outpacing their income, which is minimal, to say the least. Please, PLEASE contribute if you can.”

On Wednesday April 15th at 1:30pm, Join the GIC at the State Capitol, Senate Committee Room, to support HB 15-1265, the Gender Identification On Birth Certificates Bill!

This bill now needs senate approval, and YOUR participation, stories, and voice, to change the process of the issuance of a new birth certificate for trans* individuals.

Support President Sheri Proctor as she advocates for this landmark legislation for the trans* and gender non-conforming community.

Please Welcome Sheri Proctor, whom the Board has unanimously voted to lead the Gender Identity Center of Colorado as Interim President.

Sheri first wants to thank Krista for her outstanding leadership. Krista has greatly influenced and inspired the trans* community through our most successful Colorado Gold Rush and partnering with national LGBTQ leaders at Creating Change. She has changed the face and branding of our organization and launched a gorgeous new website to better share and disseminate our resources to the world. Knowing that our Krista has been discovered and will be doing great things on a grander scale for our community makes us all excited for the future.

Sheri and the Board are eager to serve our organization and community. We ask that everyone support Krista as she works to advance the needs of the community, and to support Sheri as we continue to improve our services, outreach and advocacy on the home front.
